So many people slept on Blowfly but those of us who had the privilege of actually buying his shit on wax before cds even came out are the ones who knew how gifted the man really was and those of us who actually knew about Clarence Reid aka Blowfly knew what a hell of a guitarist/musician he was.....Weird Al got it twisted for Blowfly WAS NOT an X-rated version of him because Blowfly's had his style of taking other folks songs and turning them into parodies long before Weird Al even knew what a fucking accordion was so in truth and hindsight Weird Al along with many other rappers should pay homage to the man and give thanks that he opened doors for them and laid the foundation for their success. I got to see Blowfly twice, and I think it was both shows with Trulio Disgracias and/or Weapon of Choice, between about 1999-2006. Awesome shows, and I had never heard Blowfly before, but knew who he was from seeing the records for sale and it isn't hard to figure out what he's basically about, but it isn't so obvious just how great he was at it. He was terrific, to say he sold it perfectly is an understatement, put his whole self into it, and he was great with the audience. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy, and this interview is a treasure.
