To be fair doing interviews pre internet era was considered “selling out” because it was usually set up by the labels with journalists who had absolutely no clue what or who they were interviewing. Nard really was one of the guys who changed that. He’s become a cultural icon since then.

It mimics chess grandmasters with the recall ability. Tyler calling out bridges from individual song numbers on certain albums resembles chess mastered remembering positions they had in games 10-20 years prior. I know they are two completely different things, but my brain instantly connected the recall memory to each of these things. Super interesting and you know they are very in tune with what they do.

You can tell the way Nardwuar and Tyler connect on an extremely unique level. Both are super nerds of all things music. What I would call true music enthusiasts. They know all the dates of when things came out, even as far as magazine covers. The both get the set of it all. From alum covers, magazine covers, the actual music, collectors items, trivia, the literature, the photos literally everything. Not just the sound of music, but everything.

Tyler is the epitome of a child of hip hop and R&B. He has a genuine love for almost all the acts that came out during the 90's and early 2000's. He can identify a look and a sound from a mile away with detail and explain its importance from the heart. He himself won two Grammys for his own music in hip hop. Tyler, the Creator has become a living, breathing piece of modern hip hop history.

It's wild to watch the shift in Tyler's persona in interviews over the years. When he was in OF you could very rarely ask him anything because he'd just be trying to mess with the interviewers and shit. Which was hilarious and hella entertaining so it was by no means a bad thing. Now he's mellowed out so much and takes interviews so much more seriously. I think it's just really interesting to see that shift.

Tyler love him or hate him is an artist. He takes everything about music and the culture to heart. If he loves something he doesn’t care if it’s cool or if other people also like it. He loves shit that just makes him think or vibe when he hears it. I’m the same way. There isn’t a genre of music I haven’t heard that I can’t find a certain band that makes it sound good. Jazz, techno, country, death metal, disco, pop I can find a song from all that that makes my head bop and feel good. The reason he embraced nardwuar is because he feels that same passion. One time he asked nardwuar where he got a certain record and he said “it’s from my collection, I think he’s fantastic.” And I remember Tyler just looking at him like “my nigga”.

First of all... Tyler's precision with naming songs and knowing what track number they are on an album is insane. That "You got What I Want" track from the Snoop Dogg album actually was track 17(I looked it up)

Naurdwuar and Tyler both have a huge knowledge of random music/rap history and that's what makes these repeated meetups so great and probably also why they both seem to really like and respect each other too

This honestly might be nardwar's best interview. I could listen to Tyler talk about music for hours

For as talented as Tyler is, you can see how much of a student of the game he is. The quotable’s, the referencing he makes to older time capsules of rap and the way he fans out/marvels at stuff now. It really is refreshing to see 💫..

You'd be hard pressed to find another music lover than Tyler. His intelligence on music is outstanding.

I feel like a lot of older producers had this knowledge, maybe not as all across the board as Tyler but I’d love to have seen him sit down with dilla or doom or even madlib and premo because they really did so much sampling of all different kinds of music

Towards the end, we really saw a whole other side of tyler, it felt really intimate That man is truly passionate about music. My favorite Nardwuar video by far.

One of the most warming videos between two guys I’ve ever seen. And to think it’s been cultivated and consistent for 7 years. Between Nardy’s numerous gratitude for Tyler and Tyler’s genuine happiness for and with him, there’s just too many words and moments to type and comment on with only 40 minutes of footage. There needs to be a podcast, a show (really anywhere), or some sort of video series with these two. Not only would it be one of the most positive and healthiest collections of content in the music industry, it would be that belly laughing humor mixed in with a type of musical education and recollection of history that’s specific and unique to only these two men. Love this, absolutely timeless and gets better with every watch.

Really enjoyed the after credits scene. Nardy should have his own “Sneaker Shopping” but instead it’s an artist shopping for records n music merch inside beatstreet during or after an interview. Kinda in the style of Amoeba’s “What’s In My Bag?”
