I was shocked when Nardwuar suggested that Kurt came up with all of what were clearly Albini's suggestions that Kurt then wrote down. Obviously that was coming out of a mind with intense knowledge of recording specifics.

@@IAmTheBestMang He seems like a "no nonsense" type of guy on the surface, but he's probably just not easily amused (which is a good thing). I'd wager there's a great sense of humor that comes out when it's appropriate, and he laughs when things are funny. I know that sounds retarded, but try listening to any podcast, or KZbin video. Unfortunately, people will literally laugh after almost every sentence. It's not only obnoxious, but you'll usually find that absolutely nothing funny was said the entire time! I don't know about you, but I find it exhausting to be around people who don't speak their minds, but even if they did they'd have nothing interesting to say. Just polite small talk, plastic smiles, and courtesy laughter as not to offend you. ...but that has absolutely nothing to do with Albini, I just rant from time to time. Sorry.

I once met Steve while touring with my brother's band in Spain (they were friends back in the early 90's) and he was actually really funny and nice, the only thing I found odd/funny was that his tour manager told us to "Please don't drink around him, he hates drunk people". So we ended up having dinner together in a nice little bistro and my brother and him were talking music and just shooting the shit, I took out my camera to snap a picture and he saw it and I gotta say... alongside being one of the best producers ever, dude knows his stuff when it comes down to photography as well.

Big Black are an underrated band. Also the Gene Simmons story is pretty funny because during an interview he pretty much said how he hates grudge music as far to call grudge artists a bunch of "lumberjacks" and in another interview he said no iconic bands came out of the 1990's.

I think the reason why Nardwuar brought out the best in Steve Albini is because he is the antithesis of a typical interviewer. He is high energy, but he does his research and never asks a generic question.
