Narinderpal Singh (born 17 October 1924 in Lyallpur, British India). He was one of the most well-known Punjabi novelists. He served in the military and retired in 1972 as a Brigadier. During World War II, he was commissioned and served in West Asia. He also served as an Indian Military Attaché in a number of nations and as the Military Secretary to India's President from 1962 to 1966. After Bhai Vir Singh, Narinderpal Singh is noted for presenting Sikh history. He has twenty novels to his credit, including Baa mulahaza hoshiar (Be ready for the royal visit, 1975), which made him receive the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1976. Narinderpal Singh's historical works include Khanneo tikhi (Sharper than the sword), Valon Nikki (Finer than a hair), Eti marg Jana (The Way to Go, 1960), and Ikk sarkar bajhon (The Way to Go, 1960). (Without an emperor, 1961). In the first three volumes, Narinderpal Singh chronicles the Sikhs' lengthy struggle against the Mughal empire, which lasted three generations. The author sheds blood on the fall of the magnificent Punjabi monarchy formed by the honest efforts of a great warrior like Maharaja Ranjit Singh to the British in Ikk sarkar bajhon, which is set during the Anglo-Sikh wars.Narinderpal Singh shows his genuine colours in these historical books. Making fresh experiments in both materials and methodology fascinates him. Some of his novels, such as Shakti (The Power, 1954), which represents woman as the true power in a family structure, and Punnya ke Massaya (Night of the full moon or of darkness, 1964), which is written in the stream of consciousness technique, and Taapu (The Island, 1969), which is written in an allegorical style, have greatly contributed to his recognition as a distinguished novelist. Colonel Narinderpal Singh's acute vision, as well as his wide and varied experience as an Army Officer, provide enough fodder for his novels.
Visions of Punjab recorded this interview in 1983 when he visited Toronto. Our dear friend late Tarlochan Singh Gill interviewed him, hope viewers will like this rare talk.
