For those who don't know; Poor Sham is fighting an almost lost battle. Illegal hunting takes place year round. The camps of these poachers are well known to the wardens but they have to fear for their lives. The people of Trinidad have no national pride and no moral ethics as Illegal meat is purchased year round. The present administration cares nothing about farming, wildlife, size and bag limits as they themselves are poaching our treasury. One day, when everything is gone and we have to go to the zoo to see last of its kind, maybe just maybe, we may understand what has been lost. The ever-growing economic strain on citizens will push them to the furthest reaches of the swamp to sustain themselves. We need educated citizens to understand the IMPORTANCE of a swamp of Nariva's proportions is to the general ecosystem of this island. Then there are those who know and don't care and possess the attitude that there is plenty still. As a fisherman I can see the effects in the Atlantic shoreline that neighbour's this beautiful swamp. Having to travel much further offshore to make a proper catch as unconscious nets are strewn across the rivers in the swamp. Thsse nets do not distinguish big from small, old from young, edible from inedibles, endangered form prevalent. No resources from the government to educate and police our natural treasures. I appreciate your short documentary Sir, it is but a slither of a glimpse on a pinhead into what is happening. You did not mention the hectares of Marijuana fields and how bad the land grab really is. There are big farmers making such large land grabs it is a wonder that there is still a swamp remaining. I could go on and on but this comment may go unnoticed. One day maybe I'll take you to some of the. Major farming out there that is still safe to observe just to give another glimpse into that aspect of the swamp.

You highlighted a bunch of issues which i am not going to respond to but i have to ask you. You seem like a very concerned individual. What have you done to help? Or are you just observing from a distance and not assisting the men and women like Sham?
@GPopeSinghTriniCharters1983
@GPopeSinghTriniCharters1983 Ай бұрын
@MK-cc8ih things can't be done without government intervention. You don't have to get defensive. I, as a charter captain, observe size limits for myself. If there are only small fish ,I move along, it's as simple as that. I teach where and when I can to who is willing to listen. I don't patronize wild meat or swamp species of fish ever. I have rescued sea birds that have hooks and nets on them. My 2 cent contribution may not be on a graphic scale but I am sure I did my part for the continuation of a few species.

@@GPopeSinghTriniCharters1983 Well said. Lots of us want to help but are fearfull for our lives. Whistle blowers have to be careful. Only the government have the resources and firepower to fight the pouchers.

@@GPopeSinghTriniCharters1983 I am not being defensive. I am asking a simple honest question. You are asking for government intervention which is great but in rural communities or even swamp land you will find that no one knows what is really happening out there unless people like you share the information that you know. You do not have to do it alone also. I am sure there are others who are carry your same concerns.
@GPopeSinghTriniCharters1983

@@MK-cc8ih this should be the concern of the entire population. The eco system of a Mangrove swamp syteem is the most important type that the good lord created. Did you know that almost all the islands north of T&T have to import shrimp, yet certain times of the year, any citizen here can take a cast net and go and catch them on any shoreline that is close to a mangrove. Locally grown fruits and vegetables depend on the pollination of the bees that survive in the mangroves, since when we build a house in a populated area and find a hive, we destroy it and do not relocate it. Have you ever found a random batata in your yard? And there are no batata trees near you? If so, these are from the bat's, that when their legs grow tired from flying long distances. Animals plant the forests, insects pollinate. People are taking the animals for food, destroying habitats, closing waterways and cry on Rowley when there is a flood😂😂😂😂. The greed of man is Insatiable. This should be your concern too as I am 100%sure that floods have affected your routine at some point in time, you also eat fruits that are grown here as well. Just remember, it starts with the taste for one caiman, one agouti, one caacadura or tilapia. I hope it's worth your concern a little bit. I hope my words have sparked a little interest in you and others who read these not only comments but a PLEA for the voiceless swamp that we neglect But so terribly depend on in our daily lives, whether we know it or not.
