I appreciate your videos on Casio keyboards. They are straight up and to the point. You give the pros and cons in a way that does not sound negative. It is always the choice of the individual purchasing. I purchased the CDP S350 to get back into piano. At $549 it is hard to be critical of the instrument, especially with all the features it has. Certainly the sound from the speakers could be better, but when listening from headphones all 700 voices are amazing, even with only 64 polyphony. The action of the piano is very to close to playing an actual piano. If I should stick with the piano and become accomplished, which I doubt will happen as I am close to 70 years old , I will upgrade to a better instrument. Thanks again Chuck.

Thanks for the review I snagged a cdps350 and love it. I'm old school and love buttons and knobs. I actually love the new key action. It's slightly lighter and a lot quieter than a px160.

Great job explaining both. I am a gigging musician and have used my CDP-S350 for 2 years professionally. Very happy with it. I had a custom cable built, 1/8 mini jack input and 1/4 output, to the mixer and with good audience and stage monitors it sounds great. And it is so lightweight (yet sturdy as I play hard) so carrying this keyboard is no problem. Thought about upgrading.. but why? I will keep my CDP-S350 for another year and take a look later. Best!

I love CDP-S350... so tiny, sound quality is fine using adapter to connect to Mixer / PA and calling up registrations and using the UI is a breeze. With RBK mixer you can also change volume balance between layers of dual layer sounds on user saved banks.

Awesome review (as usual - Thanks!) I have a Roland FP-30 that I love the keybed and piano sound on, but would really like to get something that has a screen/user interface, proper line outs, ability to record audio without needing an audio interface, and a decent number of backing drum beats with controllable fills/intros/ends (preferably pedal compatible). There are only 2 usable drumbeats onboard on the Roland, and the extra ones in the app aren’t easily usable (and they cut out when your device goes to sleep or if you switch to another app etc). I like the PSX3000’s battery option, but not sure I’m crazy about the non tactile buttons. I have no need for arpeggiator or looping etc, just really after the drumbeats. Would you recommend the 360, 560 or psx3000?

How does the PX-S3000 compare to the Roland RD-88?
@Zoco101

I believe the CDP-S350 is ideal for a buddying singer-songwriter or amateur composer, who isn't likely to gig much on it, and who won't need to practise straight piano for long hours on it. Ditto for the PX-S3000, except this piano can be gigged properly, but I prefer the tactile buttons on the CDP model. The PX-S3000 may be better in white (or red?) because of panel smearing issues in black.

Can you not record directly to a usb drive on the CDP-S350? I'm a little confused I thought you could. There is a usb port on the CDP-S350 and ability to record so I'm just a little confused. Also I download the manual for the CDP-S350 and it makes it sound like you can unless I'm overlooking something.
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 3 жыл бұрын
Recordings are stored in one of 6 internal memory slots in MIDI format. From there, you can xfer that MIDI data onto a USB drive. In other words, no direct recording to a USB drive. Its bigger brother (PX-S3000) can record to a USB drive in WAV format.

While researching on both Casio CDP 350 & PX S3000 I found a YT video (attached below) about a MAJOR FLAW on PX S3000. I have asked the reviewer if CDP 350 also has the same issue. It's about the weight of the black and white keys, black being much lighter than white. But have you noticed the difference in weights between both keys yourself on either model? I am ready to buy the right one. Thanks.
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 4 жыл бұрын
James Shawcross is the one complaining about this after he actually praised the same key action just weeks earlier at the NAMM Show earlier that year. Whatever his beef was with Casio, he went and did videos about black key weights being off, placing his gram weights on the keys to somehow prove his point. In reality, Casio's "Smart Scaled Hammer Action" (controlled by firmware) takes into account any weight differences and makes up for them, not just in general but on a "per key" basis for each of the 88 keys as they're being played, thus negating his story completely! He never turns the keyboard on to play it, showing that the firmware accounts for and corrects this. If you challenge him, or post any comment that disagrees with his point of view, or say anything that might harm his delicate ego, he simply deletes the comment.

@@PianoManChuck Thank you very much for your quick reply and taking time to explain. I am still seriously considering px s3000 over cdp 350 but I think James had his keyboard on and while demonstrating he accidentally played a note from the black key and the keyboard was switched on. I will rewatch his video. But does the cdp has the same minor issue (if it is an issue in the first place) or the same/similar smart scaled hammer action? :)) Edit: I just watched it again and 5 min 2 seconds into his video he played notes on black keys using weights, his keyboard was switched on but I am still considering px s3000 and cdp 350 ignoring any flaws due to their features and price. Cheers :))

The PX-S3000 has the "Smart" Scaled Hammer Action, the CDP-S350 has Scaled Hammer Action but not the "Smart" (firmware) part. I've sold a ton of these boards and have yet to hear any of them complain about either of these boards. Best if you can find a local retailer where you can try it out see for yourself.

@Zoco101
@Zoco101 3 жыл бұрын
Bluetooth technology is not considered adequate for earphones/headphones on musical instruments, due to latency issues. I don't know of any instruments which support it for audio output, even when they do have bluetooth for input.
@Zoco101
@Zoco101 3 жыл бұрын
@@vspatmx7458 I suspect you know more than me about wired headphones. If you spend between 30 and 80 dollars/euros, you should get some good phones. I prefer closed, and they double for recording. Mine connect with a short detachable cable via the left side. My headphone input is on the left too. This helps me to keep the cable from snagging on my hands, feet, whatever. In the past I've been impressed by Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, JSP, though they weren't expensive.

@@vspatmx7458 My main headphones set only cost me around €30 (today's money) and is by Skullcandy. Can't find the model number. It's nothing special, but it does include the novelty of a battery charged bass boost. I think it is the minimum quality I would recommend, but I don't use headphones much for playing nowadays, since I have a home studio which is a bit isolated. I'm sure you'll have many hours of pleasure with your new Casio PX-S3000. It's rich in features, so your creativity can grow with it.

Q. dopes the CDP s350 have the new key-action like the px s3000?
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 4 жыл бұрын
They have similar action. Physically its the same keys, but the PX-S3000 has firmware-controlled action (so unique its patent pending) that constantly monitors precisely what position any key is in at any time (sort of makes triple-sensor look old), and takes into account weights of each individual key.

When I bought my PXS3000, the CDP S350 was also in the showroom and I thought the keys were simply not the same. The PXS is simply a lot more sensible to your touch. This is one of the main reasons why I choosed the PXS vs the CDP

*Did you forget to talk about the keyboard action of these pianos, or that was on purpose ? There are many people saying on the internet that these pianos have a bad keyboard action, the keybed is too small, so the pivot is too close to the end of the keys, so, when a person plays at the tip of the black notes, it´s rather different than playing at the beginning of the keys, which makes the black keys being lighter than the white ones when playing. Casio sacrificed action for the small form factor of the piano.*
@PianoManChuck
@PianoManChuck 4 жыл бұрын
No, the only one with a "problem" with these keys is James Shawcross, who prior to that praised the key action before he got into whatever it was that caused him to do a complete 180 against Casio. The PX-S3000 also has "Smart" Scaled Hammer Action - the "Smart" part is firmware (patent pending) that constantly monitors at which position those keys are in at any given point in time, compensating for keyweight, etc. James Shawcross only demonstrates his point with gram weights sitting on top of keys that aren't even being played (hence, firmware cannot do its job). I have sold a lot of these keyboards and have yet to hear anyone complain about it. Best bet is to always try it out for yourself - that's the ONLY way you'll have an answer that you can trust.

@@PianoManChuck Hi, Pianoman, you´re correct. The only way is to test the instrument by ourselves. Unfortunately, I live on a small town in Northeast Brazil, far away from big cities where are all those nice pianos. I am a professional pianist, and I´m yet to find a "perfect" digital piano action which I feel secure to play classical music. I had a Roland A90 which I found very good to play fast passages. His keybed was light, with escapement, which it was easy to "fly" over the keys. And there were no differences between playing at the tip of the keys or far away. Unfortunately, my A90 is old and broke up. I need a replacement. I would love to fix my A90, but I had to change all keys which with time, became too fragile and break easily. In the mean time, I´m using a Yamaha P140, which is very stiff and hurts my arms and hands on octaves, it´s very hard. I have played in conert pianos, and they are very light, fast passages becomes easy to play. Currently, I´m using VSTi on P140, adjusted for them, but the keyboard is terrible. I need a new piano, at least for playing my VSTi, it doesn´t need to have a good sound, but need to have an excellent action with escapement. I would love I could purchase a Kawaii MP-11, but it´s too expensive around here, sometimes, for about 5 times the price in USA. It would be like bying one for U$ 20.000 too expensive.

Dihelson Mendonca - I’ll repeat my comment from elsewhere on this video: I use the ‘350 as a controller for soft synths on my iPad, and I love the key feel. Feel is subjective, though. As a hobbyist used to synth keys, I wanted something lighter. When I went to the music store about 2 months ago, they had several boards with hammer action out. The only one that I liked better than the Casio was the Nord, and those are quite expensive. Compared to the key feel of the Casio: Yamaha MX88, about the same feel, better sound, but twice as expensive. Yamaha MODX8, same keys as MX, great synth engine, even more money. Korg Kross 88, heavy / “floppy” / sluggish keys. Same for their stage piano (forgot the model) Roland Juno DS 88, similar to the Korg. Hope this helps.
