Fun fact, belladonna is named like that because it contains mostly atropine (it might be another alcaloïd) that dilates the pupils, wich was considered a desirable trait in the old days, so a noble kady having developed a resistance to belladonna is weirdly fitting

The effect of the original complication thurston gave was basically "Speaker doesn't play the game and goes completely against what his character was about to do", so I can see why it got pushed back on.

Honestly I felt that Speaker didn’t really play off the part of a nat 1 drink failure well. I get that the complication went against how he would play his character but you know it’s a NAT 1 so he should’ve just acted really drunk if anything.

And coseying up another character, because you thought they'd be an asset for the revolution, talking potentially straight out of your arse to get them to do what you want? Yes. Totally unlike Tannhauser. And the roll being mostly to see if the group was too wasted to notice Vina missing. Kinda poor call from Zoran to pull out the "Uncomfortable situation" -card straight on, when they've been just moments ago perfectly happy to twirl a fat guy's bellyhair... So yeah. Speaker shouldn't be forced to do something he don't want to. Cool. So next time his attack misses, it probably hits anyway, 'cose he didn't want to miss, certainly? That being said, there are situations where people are just making you live their fetishes and it's not cool. God damn bellyhair twirling... But Speaker having to play drunk when dice tell him to, when he'd rather metagame himself to a potential social encounter forced into combat encounter is not one of those situations.

​@@Velgar_Grimspeaker felt it was too out of character for him and took away player agency, thats all that needed to be said. I do think he should've found a better angle to play the nat 1 on, but i think he was just flustered in the moment of nearly being entirely out of character during a potentially catastrophic moment for the rest. And the moment was overlooked as they tried to not make it a big deal and kept stream on track. Both him and Zoran setting a boundary isn't excessive. But the moment of correction ended up redirecting away (imo unintentionally) from the nat 1. But it would've been nice if Tannhauser roleplayed the nat 1 to get distracted drinking trying to chat up workstaff or something for the revolution if the npc he was with at the time was the actual problem regarding his player agency (like no way would he let his guard down around him or something).

@@h.s.6269 Fair assesment. Though considering the following details (which I too only "remembered" after rechecking the part of the episode): 1. Tannhauser is always giving out pamphlets and trying to recruit people to the revolution. 2. He had just learned this cfarming fellow was from Inheritor Lands, and that he actively hated the Dominion. 3. Which prompted him to happily share in the drinks the guy was calling their way. 4. Which caused him to get drunk, despite Tannhausers imaginably impressive constitution. 5. At which point he was instructed to ignore the enticing, and clearly more preferable option of possible combat scenario, in favour of using his concentrated, and drunken effortd, to cozying up the person who he chose to drink with, because he liked his opinions on the people of his homeland, who had made him anarchistic in the first place. He wasn't even supposed to actually be best buds with the guy. He was told that Tannhauser only felt like the guy would be an asset and that he was feeling like he should smooth talk him into joining Tannhauser's cause. So... What part exactly was there "completely out of character" and removing his agency? To me it seems like quite straight consequences of the said players own agency, played along the personality of the character. In which instance the player felt that his character would rather than attempt cozying up a likeminded individual for the revolution, try finding a member of the team which the character had no inclination of being in any danger at that given moment, purely working on the meta-knowledge the player had from following Vina's encounter. But all in all. I don't think Speaker acted out of any outright evil intent. As said, the potential of disaster was there and Vina had died already several times. Enough even for the GM to macguffin her status to more stable one. And Speaker had been scorned by the bird-bit too, so the day wasn't the best for him. But regardless, the situation was handled very poorly in fear of "hurting feelings". Which again, is an actual threat in rp-circles, but is often and here too, taken to unnecessary extremes because "I don't wanna". Now back to my Speaker-exposed plastic crack. 👀 Got some minis to build and second hand glueings to sniff. 🤪
