Great video guys. Belt sander and Fugi silicone scrapers are a very good investment. Also I would protect the underside of the boards to prevent them cupping etc. Thanks for sharing.
@ItsOhJoe3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Good idea on the Fugi scrapes we'll get some on order. We were worried the belt sander was slightly too aggressive with them being damp. We've got multi foil insulation going directly under the boards so hopefully that will protect from moisture as well.

@@philhonour450 In fifty years how many have you seen used in the bottom of a narrow boat😂
@philhonour4503 жыл бұрын
None in narrow boats , I’ve got solid oak in mine on top of ply. Laid professionally by myself as I am a qualified carpenter/ joiner by trade old school. If laid correctly they won’t warp. I worked on the Adela in Falmouth when built second highest mast in the world and also did a bit on the SS GREAT BRITAIN. But not when she was built, 1971 just after she came back from the Falklands.

I have used this type of boarding on some of the canal workboats years ago. Just remember not to have all the end joints landing at the same place, you need to stagger the joints. Sorry, you maybe already know this. Enjoying watching your work. Thanks for sharing. Phil.

I should store them indoors for a couple of months. My scaffold boards shrunk and left a 1/2" gap between them after they had been down about 6 weeks and had dried out / became acclimatised. Good luck.

Hi D & J.. I just sub to you. I was watching your vlog as you put your ballast back after bitumen floor. I see you have that long hose all the way back back to drain the well deck...( Get Rid ) Useless... What is far better option is to cut two small half circles in each side of the hull above the weld seam, but as low as possible. Then any water will just run out..If you cant for some reason then fix an exit hole drain just below the floor hole you have now. As in same sort as used for shower / sink..A hole needs to be bored and the fixings installed...Then the hose you have now can be connected to it, but only a few inches instead of feet..That long hose you have now , can and will get clogged up with c**p and s**t and when it does...well deck water cant drain. I know a couple who had the same long hose set up...Guess what, was blocked up in a matter of weeks....Thought I would mention it before you put all the flooring in.
@ItsOhJoe3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The bow deck is very low, a bit close to water level so we've decided to try and collect the rain water & store in a separate tank to use for clothes washing. We'll have the pipe under the ballast as a back up as realise it's quite likely to clog up with crap.
@brett765443 жыл бұрын
I like that you are sanding the edges. Putting a tongue and grove edge on the boards might be worth it for flooring.
@ItsOhJoe3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We did consider some sort of overlap but due to the thickness of the boards we decided against it
@simonamjones3 жыл бұрын
You will need to remove the windows to seal them properly, with the way you have done them they are guaranteed to leak very quickly. You will also definitely need to coat the bottom of the boards to stop moisture, personally I would also let them dry out before doing anything more to them, also belt sanding works fantastic on scaffolding boards, thsts what I've used to prepare mine for shelves
@ItsOhJoe3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We're looking to paint the boat in the future so could potentially remove windows whilst we do this & re-seal properly then. The board will be directly on-top of multi foil insulation so fingers crossed no damp will get to them, will look into sealing the bottom though definitely
@simonamjones3 жыл бұрын
@@ItsOhJoe for the short time needed to paint the bottom of the boards it could save you a fortune in the future. If you concerned about time just put use bitumen baint or watered down pva ideally which can be done as you're putting them down

Why is it that almost none have anyting else but single-glassed windows? They only protect from direct wind. A second glass protects from most of the condensation and a third will keep the temperature at the right level. ???
@ItsOhJoe3 жыл бұрын
I really don't know why a lot are still fitting single glazed. Whilst looking at replacements for the Louvre windows, just single glazed were in the region of £2000 per 5 windows, I'd hate to imagine the cost of double / triple!!

I may be to late for my advice on scaffold boards, but here goes anyway. If you stop vlog at 14.57 you will see the rings on the end of the timber form cups, I think it is better to have them so the rings form bridges so the edges don't lift once laid. Thanks for sharing.
