Kudos to Mons for being so diplomatic and also for not editing out the end conversation. I play with people who have losing philosophies like "I never pay my taxes," and you just have to chalk it up to the quirky human side of board games with humans!

I have played enough games with Jed over time to know that he is 100% always the guy who, if he puts something on the stack stack and then someone goes "wait, don't cast that, because reason X", he will always go "well, I already did, and I'm not going to take it back". So very serious about his actions. Looking at it from the outside like this I definitely think he misread the situation and thought he needed to force the action on the ballista when he really didn't which is something that is definitely easier to see after the game from the outside than inside the game. Also I'm sure it's a good learning moment.

Great game and really liked the conversation at the end. One thing I’ve learned about making plays like the ballista one: you do everyone a favor if you explain why you’re taking an action and what you think other people should do. Putting the loaded gun on the table without explaining how to deal with it is going to lead to mistakes and hurts your own chances of winning

I think the Teferi play was really bad. Even if you are holding to your own philosophy, it immediately pressures the Ballista to kill your board, so you don't even have a Lotho trigger or anything on an opponents turn. The Teferi play immediately makes you lose your board and any interaction you could have with Sisay.

Adatari here. Don't know why I kept saying turn 3 when talking about my opening hand, meant turn 2. Still drew into Ad Naus anyway, haha. Better to be lucky than good.

These videos have gotten so good! Love seeing the hands and the pauses in game. I actually was able to follow the whole thing with no confusion which is rare for commander channels. People keep kneecapping the narset deck, I wonder what it does….

It is fine if that guy wants to stick to his philosophy, but he is gonna lose a lot of games I guess. I don’t understand why he “needed to know whether the walking ballista would kill mons” I don’t see how that helps him win. He seemed fixated on that point for some reason
@SethVeit

Right? Like in that situation if the Sisay player had no creatures to attack the Zur player, then the Teferi makes a little more sense. But with removing Zur's only defense and being at two life, he is forced into removing all your attackers. I he didn't have creatures when casting Teferi, he could probably predict that the Ballista was going to take out Mons, as then there was no risk of dying that same turn. Then you could follow up creatures if need be. You have read the board state.

I love how we have a ton of people commenting all sorts of things but my casual brain immidietly notices the Lightning Greaves in Zur’s hand 😂 Just attacking with the balista Mons could have been dead or at 1, if Zur felt like he needed him to win. It would have also prevented the balista bounce.
@trendinggames5078
@trendinggames5078 10 ай бұрын
I 100% agree with the Zur player. The Walking Ballista should not have been bounced so that there is some leverage against Mons. CEDH is sometimes a game of politics, that's part of the game. You should leave your personal feelings and believes out of it. You have to calculate the best chance of success for yourself and not cause a loss for everyone else at the table. This shows the Sisay player is not very experienced nor knowledgeable when it comes to threat assessment.

Casting Talisman right away and then making 2 mana per Reversal cast until you can cast a Ballista large enough to kill Mons and stay on +1 counter would have won the game

Unfortunate misread of the board state by the Sisay player. Could probably have mounted a comeback via Sisay activations in this Mexican stand off, loaded guns position. Definitely a good learning moment for all involved.

The teferi was a total missplay. Even the philosophy of not asking for help doesnt really come into this. It was just a miss play. Should have bounced the isochron scepter to remove inf mana from the equation. Leave the ballista to hold the other players in check. I get not having many options but removing scepter would have made it a lot harder for zur without just giving the game to Mons

Ballista dealt 26 dmg so it dies, teferi doesnt draw. Not sure if it's spite play, he didnt like the target so he responded strangely (not saying bouncing ballista was right). If sisay has dockside wins anyways, if you let olivia live sisay can at least kill mons, if you kill bird he cant neoform He was planning on passing to mons and losing to trickbind, now sisay with 6 mana and 1 card must have answers for mons and pontus, idk

Close game! I think Adatari could have won if you'd cast the ballista once you had enough mana to kill mons before he drew FoN/FoW. You can still infinitely put counters on ballista and activate ballista afterwards to kill the other two after he's dead. Hindsight is 20/20 anyway 😄

Malcolm+Kediss player here. Mons only needed Maskwood nexus to land once he had reckless fireweaver and malcolm out. This is because maskwood is an artifact already and will trigger fierweaver itself.

I usually don't have a problem with suboptimal, or 'loosing' philosophies, what i do kinda always have a problem with is hurting other people. In competitive games that enable politics there is always a risk, that unless everybody plays optimally, somebody's efferts are going to be wasted unfairly and(or) somebody is going to run away with the game. The worst part is usually not the 'kingmaking' act itself, but how hard it is to have these conversations, especially when I'm the one who's lost the most. Having pride in personal philosophies or rules is not just acceptable, it's great, and some people are going to laugh at that or judge that, and that's awful. What isn't acceptable is hurting other people and staying ignorant to that or neglecting that so that your pride stays intact. Pride is important, but being a good and compassionate person, I think, is more. Peace to all.

Mons, I was grinding with malcolm kediss, then Najeela until I rage-retired them both. Despite their showing on edhtop16, the current meta is very hostile to small commanders that do not offer actual card advantage and tutoring, preferably immediately. Esepcially with Malcolm, I feel like every time you deploy it early, as you should, it gets shot. You cast it again, it gets shot again. Now you are out of fast mana, have no cards in hand, and are shamesitting knowing that you just needed another turn.
@gammarisktrader1681
@gammarisktrader1681 10 ай бұрын
malcolm is great because he is a mana fixer and he's a win con, but ya if malcolm dies twice he's not worth the 7 mana to recast him again unless you are using him as a win con. malcolm/kediss is super draw dependent because that color combination has very few methods to search outside of artifact search (fabricate, whir of invention, etc), and the transmute search cards are very narrow.

You could jump ahead. Some people might not play cedh that long or are just starting to get into it. having some explanations why thats a keep or not (turn order, opponents deck at the table) helps to get differnt perspectives. I personally prefer mons/cedhtv game's over every other channel. Because you often get a good glimps of a players thought process.

As others have said, the insight into the minds of the players is something cEDHTV does uniquely well. I'm okay with different gameplay channels having different approaches and strengths. I like the view into what different types of players are thinking at the cost of longer discussions. I'm also okay with other excellent channels opting for a more streamlined experience.
