Naruto and Hinata's romance sucks. Kinda. Here's how fix it. Even though NaruHina is pretty dissappointing, there are may things that work, and I think Naruto and Hinata could have been one of the best couples in anime if some things were changed, like the scene when Naruto and Hinata kiss.

The reason most of these canon ships seemed forced is because authors seem to think the only way romance exists is with blushing and confessions. It why unintentional ships work better. Allowing the story to guide you for example temari and shikamaru. Their chemistry, interactions seem less superficial. Naruto works better with Sakura or even sasuke.

I completely agree with you. His chemistry with Sakura is way more present and their relationship really evolved through the manga ( even if l don’t think that their relationship will work bu it can still be a good possibility for Sakura’s development ). About Sasuke, Even if l don’t really ship them, they have a way more deep and developed relationship. The biggest strength of their relationship is the fact it’s extremely versatile ( you can see them as best friends, brothers, soulmates or even lovers ), they are a part of the each other so technically it looks strange at the front of view but it works also works way better.

Holy shit I didn't think to replace Hinata with Sai. You absolute genius. Sai literately brings nothing new to the table and, despite being Sasuke's "replacement" never really progressed in any meaningful way. But with Hinata you develop an already established character, can mess with the Hyuga's abilities, history, and so on, and you can work on the romance in one fell swoop. It's honestly a really good idea.

So why should NaruHina be excused? You did a really good job on this video. Whenever I'm arguing for how to make NaruHina better I normally start to develop them from the Pain arc. I never thought of developing them from the point were Sakura was hugging Sasuke as a kid. I've notice a lot of people get upset at me for not just accepting NaruHina as is and I don't understand why. Like whenever I'm talking about how the couple could have been better I state that at the point Hinata confessed her love in the Pain arc Naruto should of had a brief flash back of Saskura lying to him, the rest of the scene plays put the same, and than Naruto starts to consider Hinata. People love arguing me on this saying Naruto didn't have time to think of romance or think of Hinata's confession because the war was after that but I argue against that point because he could have briefly addressed it when the villagers was cheering for him and hugged Hinata. Also people saying Naruto didn't have time to think about romance must not realize that Naruto still thought about Sakura during the war and said that was his girl friend. Kishimoto really fumbled the bag with NaruHina with all those moments of Naruto still liking Sakura and it really seemed like he was messing up because he probably didn't want them together. Hell, even in The Last it was so weird. It felt like he didnt even like her until halfway through the movie, everyone else was speaking for Naruto's feelings, and even Hinata couldnt believe it(no pun intented). I feel like if kishi would have stop playing around with it I probably would have been a fan of NaruHina.

While Sai is definitely and a character who was thrown into the story haphazardly, I think it's selling him a bit short to call him pointless. Outside of his small arc, his character was also the introduction of Danzo's involvement in the story. I also get that Danzo isn't exactly a popular antagonist, but the history of Konoha would be vastly different without him, and the mystery around Sai did a good job of introducing the dangers of his way of thinking. Don't get me wrong, I agree that it's a good place to make Hinata more prevalent in the story, but I think there should still be a place for Sai's character.

NaruHina is underdeveloped because it wasn't planned. Naruto spent the entire manga (years in-universe) loving Sakura. He loved her all the way up to the end of the war arc. Hinata was very clearly just meant to be a side character with an unrequited crush. But she became a victim of her own popularity and got shoehorned into a position she was never meant to be in. I was super confused when I first read chapter 700. Naruto never had any interest in Hinata, and Sasuke any in Sakura, yet out of nowhere they're married because they need kids for the sequel series, Boruto.

That woman wanted to ride that guy when he was severely injured , constantly fainting, she was waiting for a chance so that the other two guys would go to sleep and she would take advantage of him ; she badgered him for xxx , tried to catch him naked and flash him , stealing toothbrush and undershirt.... I think, assuming that all of the big issues in naruto got worked out, not just naruhina, I think that Sakura would be the best pick for naruto. The few brief moments of time where she isn't being absolutely horrid were actually very good and her banter with naruto (at times) was very well written. Like Kishimoto felt the need to kill off Neji just so he could bring Naruto and Hinata together, that should tell you how bad the writing really is in regards to NaruHina and what's funny is that the sacrifice didn't even really do anything of substance since Naruto goes back to ignoring Hinata again and Hinata goes back to being her Part 1 self after, lol SasuSaku is just bad, I don't see any redeeming quality to it aside from maybe Sarada, haha NaruSaku feels more natural because they're the pairing that spent more time together so we were given enough time to see how their relationship grows as opposed to both NaruHina and SasuSaku that were both just one-sided obsessions until the last minute and this is coming from someone who didn't like NaruSaku while the manga was still being finished...

I actually favored Naruto's feelings for Sakura way more then Naruhina. For one, Naruto fell for Sakura because of three things; her lovely forehead, her smile/exotic looks/embodying a living cherry blossom, and lastly her vivacious personality and goals. Sakura had drive, was intelligent and aligned more with his personality and drive. Naruto appreciated difficult and fiery people. Naruto around Sakura was driven, poetic and gradually mature in his feelings. He felt a companionship with her, because they both strived to be acknowledged. I think NaruSaku's heaven and earth lesson explained it best. Sakura was the mind and Naruto was the heart/physical expression. Both were needed in order to create a perfect union; which was Sasuke. Lol The balanced yet opposed each other in beneficial ways. Causing each other to become aware of their foibles and grow. Around Naruto, Sakura became caring, and was able to believe in something outside of herself. While Naruto had to mature and learn to control his feelings. How love drove him to make that promise to keep the girl he liked smiling. I think that's a better lesson in the end in crafting a healthier relationship. It's not always A to C, sometimes it just takes time to mature and have these characters perspectives change. Kishimoto was pretty bad when it came to human relationships and portraying; especially his female characters as multifaceted human beings. Naruto even after sometime rarely changed or seemed to express awareness. If he was met with difficulty or discord he broke down, instead of understanding how various opinions and life paths can oppose your own. To keep going and understand the bigger picture. To realize the violence and hypocrisy of the ninja world. That's why Naruto by the end of Shippuden felt disingenuous and like a flat character mirroring DBZ, then his own actual person. A realistic Naruto would've admitted his feelings to Sakura; whether she turned him down or not. He would've still tried and let it be. Since Kishimoto is extremely conservative....none of the females are allowed to change and see beyond detrimental or shallow crushes. If he knew how to write human characters then Sakura's love could be seen as competitive, based on infatuation and low self esteem. A civilian girl trying to fit in with the crowd. Since she lacks the skills, name and genetics. Hinata's love is hero worship, mixed with admiration and the fact Naruto expresses himself despite his situation. Hinata is a noble heiress steeped in rules, regulations and decorum. History and shame weigh heavy on her. At first celebrating then deconstructing their love would've given them richer development and delve more into them as characters. Naruto liking Hinata cause of boobs seems hella shallow. Lol Hinata fan boys like the shy, big boobies archetype. That never seemed to stir anything and even in a omake. Naruto stated liking Sakura's perky chest better then Tsunade's milk udders cause it made Sakura a better ninja. When he first met her again after traveling with Jiraiya, he found Sakura attractive still. She filled out being hippier, with nice legs and a bum. Sakura liked Naruto fundamentally, cause under the guys of Sasuke he made her swoon and soft. Sakura attached so much importance to Sasuke's opinion of loving something she found embarrassing. Yet that was completely Naruto mirroring his father's love for his mother's red hair. Something she found embarrassing to. They're relationship would've made the show richer and injected a human element into the series. Naruto deciding to like Hinata because she loved him for years falls flat and makes Naruto's neediness for love all the more apparent. Marrying a daughter of a clan that practiced slavery, and Neji died so Naruto would notice her never sat right with me. They're not fundamentally compatible. Naruto protected Hinata, but he never paid attention to her since she never was seen as someone who sparked his interest. Like Sakura did. The girls got what they wanted in the end since Kishimoto doesn't care for or respect his female characters. Series like jujutsu kaisen and my hero academia have far superior realistic, down to earth, and human messages about life, relationships and isn't bogged down in destiny nor characters with no autonomy. They changed and have realizations. Naruto's don't. Even Ichigo felt more solid then Naruto. Naruto glazed a lot of things over for that stepford ending.

Heir archy and politics plays such a major role in this universe yet Kishimoto touches on non of it. Hinata could've been a rich character of depth and lore, because she and Neji explored different aspects of the Hyuga clan. Sakura could've been a blank slate to use to show us the civilian side of things. How predatory and prejudice the military ninja industrial complex is and how who you know matters more then what you know. Sakura is a pretty girl and she's easy to fall for. I could see Tsunade training her in politics and decorum to be used as a diplomat when visiting the Daimyos in her stead. A mini Tsunade. Play up the similarities yet the stark contrast will echo, as well. Sakura not wanting be stuck in that shadow yet it allows her access to a world few others see. Even have Naruto accompany her from time to time as a novel. A handsome jinchurikki for the court to marvel at and to show how Konoha is always in control. Naruto learns injustices, how to control his temper and chaotic energy. I mean.... Fanfiction written by competent fans and writers alike have made this series a joke. Boruto is a cruel joke, but the way Kishimoto dropped the ball is just.... 😬. I know the man needed a break but damn...he had so much influence. Take a vacation for a year or two. I think the point was that Naruto proves his point and that being Hokage is different and thus should be different for him while ones after follow the Cycle. I don't know how I agree with Sakura learning diplomatic stuff because that makes it seem like she would be the 6th Hokage which might work in some people's ideas but like me wondering why. I think the most disappointing aspect of this is that you literally don't have to change the story that much in order for Naruto and Hinata to make sense. Now in my personal opinion, assuming Naruto still likes Sakura in Shippuden, he should've ended up with Sakura because Naruto's always DELIVERED for her when the going got tough. Forest of Death and Orochimaru, against The One Tails during the invasion of Konoha, him promising to bring Sasuke, who was really Naruto's brother he never had, back to the village. So in my opinion, they should've been together. But if not, Naruto liking Hinata literally takes no effort to change. It isn't like the War Arc which shouldn't have existed (in the form that it did anyways), you literally just change a couple manga panels and BOOM BOOM you're good.

In the part where Neji sacrificed himself for Hinata it should've been Naruto sacrificing himself to save Hinata. His actions would reflect the time Hinata fought Pain. I find it mind-boggling that the only really fleshed out relationship where a ship would make sense is the arguably the most popular ship but people can’t even argue with it. Sasuke and Naruto. I’m not just pointing my finger and saying “gay” literally the entire story felt like a story between those two and the girls are just side characters. They arguably have the strongest bond in all of anime, whether you view it as platonic, brotherly or romantically. They consider each other soulmates, they couldn’t stand to be away from each other or let the other go. I just watched the movie where they get together and I was left so inexplicably angry for a few days afterwards, because their romance was REALLY lacking in build up. As much as I love Shonen series like Naurto one of my biggest problems with them is that they make it seem like it's only women that have a hard time dealing with crushes. So many of these series uses the formula of the woman/girl that has to deal with having a crush and the male character that focuses on the plot. I understand these series are targeted to young boys, but that doesn't mean these shows can display men can struggle with having crushes without turning it into a running joke. As a man, I would have really like to see more stories about guys struggling in dating and when I struggle I mean they struggle to find companionship and manage being lovely rather then struggle to main a relationship they already have or being in a love triangle.

I honestly think Naruto and Hinata's relationship was kinda "Forced" because it happened "Out of the blue". It was so forced that there's a movie (The Last) that explains how they ended up together. Naruto has never showed any interest in Hinata but Sakura. Ok, i know that he defended Hinata in the chunin exams when Neji was "Humiliating" her and he was in a total rage when Pain almost killed her but...Naruto should stay with Sakura! Rewatched the Chunin Exams, specifically the Neji vs Hinata fight and thought to myself, “Man how great would it have been for Naruto to have developed feelings for her from here on out?” And also, “Why couldn’t Hinata have been on Team 7 from the jump so her and Naruto’s relationship could’ve built gradually? Him going after Sauske later could’ve been a tougher choice too because she’d have been torn between him going after a beloved friend and seeing someone she admired and cared for willingly putting himself in life threatening danger!” Also bringing the Chunin Exams back again, this could’ve been great for Naruto’s promise to fight in Hinata’s honor after she lost her fight to Neji. Yeah, this anime's handling of romance is really bad. I genuinely think the only major shonen series that handled it worst might have been Dragon Ball. But at least that series has the advantage of having never focused on romance and having a cast of characters that mostly don't care about it, with a few exceptions. And even then the romantic aspirations of those exceptions are often used as gags at their expense instead of proper development. But Naruto focused on romance a lot, even making it the sole driving force behind some of the most prominent charaters, but having the romances if every coupling remain completely stagnate throughout almost the entire series. And even whenever we get big moments that seem like they're gonna push any of the romance subplots forward, like Sakura confessing to Sasuke when he leaves to join Orochimaru or Hinata confessing to Naruto before seemingly being killed by Pain, the moment just get ignored moving forward. It SUCKS. It's like Kishimoto is great at creating these big emotional moments in these romance subplots, but has NO idea how to progress them once that moment is over, so he just sweeps the romantic subplot under the rug and hopes we forget it until it's time for the next big emotional moment. It comes across like a massive tease and a waste of time.

I like the idea of removing Sai. This gives the Konoha 13 more time. I would not start the romance between until after Sakura confess to Naruto. For the fourth member of team 7, they should rotate one of the Konoha 13. I would hold off on the romance until Sakura confess to Naruto. After being rebuked by Kakashi or Gaara, Sakura reflects on her actions. She decides to go back to Naruto and have a long talk. She apologizes to Naruto and asks what he needs her to be. Puzzled, Naruto asks for some time to think about it. Sakura and him head back to the town. At the inn, Naruto thinks about his relationship with her. The scene goes into a montage of Naruto and Sakura moments. The next day, Sakura asks Naruto for an answer. He says he wants her to be exactly the way she is. Sakura smiles. Naruto asks her why she did a fake love confession. She responds that she does not want him to see her hurt. He is special to her. She says he holds a special place in her heart. More than a friend, but less than a lover. Naruto asks what does this mean? Gaara chimes in that means he is a brother to her. Sakura says exactly. Moved by her words, Naruto cries and hugs her. After this, he still tries to hang out with Sakura a lot but not as a date. Because he is not trying to date Sakura, he is ok with other people joining in. This is where Hinata comes in. Sakura realizes Hinata's feelings and plays matchmaker.

While this idea would require a big re-write I had the idea that Neji would die protecting Naruto and Hinata from the 4th Raikage. As Neji sees the Kage rushing towards the two Neji hops in the way and uses his rotation. However, the Raikage uses the spear attack that the 3rd Raikage was known for and actually penetrates the rotation and his arm goes through Neji’s body. The cloude village was responsible for the attempted kidnapping of Hinata and the death of Neji’s father. So Neji dying to the Raikage just feels like a natural but tragic conclusion.

I'd say Naruto's attraction to sakura shouldn't have ended ended so early in this rewrite. Romantic tension and perceived rivalry could make Hinata's interactions with Naruto more impactful and spark better reactions. Also because it'd also mean keeping in Naruto's rejection for Sakura later, both because it was kinda based and now because it'd also show him legitimately choosing Hinata over Sakura. I'd also say Hinata shouldn't have the declaration of unconditional protection so early on, it'd sort of rob some of the punch of the eventual Pein fight and confession. The key to good romance is teasing to build anticipation before eventually paying it off, highs and lows, otherwise it's just an iyashikei which is fine but doesn't mesh well with shounen since it's point is being mild.

As well as combo attacks. These are just some moments I got in mind for both. I got more as well, beyond just character development ideas.

I don't know if is a good idea replace Sai with Hinata. I mean, i like how they build up the tension with Sai and make him a fake traitor, plus it's the introduction of Danzo. Maybe Sai is not a great character overall, but his role in that specific arc is really good and makes a good contrast with Sasuke. The best moment to make sense for the NaruHina is Jiraya's death. Naruto was in one of the most, or the MOST hardest moment in his entire life. Iruka and Shikamaru supported him and you can put Hinata doing the same, maybe talking to him before and after he recovers. Something like she putting his shy aside because of how in a bad state Naruto was, saying that she always supported him since the beggining and that she also knows that he can get over this, that she believes in him. Then after Naruto recovers and before he leaves, Hinata realized that now he is better and says him that she preffers the Naruto that is smiling or something like that, and then she runs in shy like always.

I don’t think naruto x hinata is worse than sasuke x sakura. I kind of feel like naruto x sakura always made more sense than naruto x hinata. They actually had their relationship be one of the main focal points of the series although sakura was just horrible to him. Despite how much naruto and sakura were shown together in shippuden, I still think hinata risking her life to save naruto fighting PAIN of all people is one of the best scenes in the series. It’s like naruto’s super saiyan moment and he truly comes into his own, awakening his anger and becoming the nine tails. It totally solidified naruto x hinata for me. It’s just so important to the whole pain arc, it’s like the start of the climax of the entire arc. The whole neji dying thing was so flawed but it showed how hinata is always the one who truly brings naruto up. Not sakura, not sasuke, not even shikamaru, and definitely not kakashi. The only relationships that were more positive for naruto as hinata were gaara (naruto’s true best friend), iruka, and jiraiya.

I love this video, though I would make a small change. Naruto heads back to the village as normal, but at night. On his way, he sees Hinata practicing her rotation in a lake like part one. He gets to see her, but can't tell who it is. He becomes infatuated with her. Then, when she is assigned to team 7, some tossed her a towel or something and references her practicing in the lake. That ignites Naruto's interest in Hinata (then keep everything as you have it here)

I think you have good points to make the relationship more satisfactory. In my opinion the flop was The Last. If they wanted to explain how A became B, the movie failed to do so due to the following aspects: 1. In the movie there should have been at least a conversation or a moment that demonstrated some closeness between Naruto and Hinata. Why? Because in the Shikamaru novel Sakura said that Naruto and Hinata were spending more time together. Also, in the manga after the end of the war and consequently Neji's death, Hinata and Naruto are seen together at Neji's funeral. Therefore it was natural to expect that after two years after the war they would have spent more time together as friends and it would have shown in a closer, more comfortable interaction in the movie. We didn't have a chance to see any of that. Not even a short hang out between the two. This lack of closeness made it seem they were still distant. In that aspect, if Kishimoto wanted to bring them closer by killing Neji, then his death was wasted for that particular purpose because we did not see Hinata and Naruto interacting in a normal situation as close friends. 2. The movie failed to confirm the hints of Naruto's feelings as per the actions in the manga. They simply needed to add all the possible memories between Naruto and Hinata that connected Naruto's feelings to Hinata. For example, a quick exploration of why he went berserk after the Pain attack. Why he held her hand during the war, the little flashback of Hinata cheering for him while all the other girls (including Sakura) were cheering for Sasuke. These memories did not need to take too much time or explanation. Well presented flashbacks showing those memories taken from the manga would have been sufficient. All we got in that genjutsu dream was a vague line of Naruto saying "I love ramen, I love Hinata" which does not have the impact required to confirm that the feelings were not one side after all. There are other aspects of the movie that need fixing, but they are more related to plot which I am not going to cover (I would be begging if it was possible to re-do this movie entirely) I suspect Kishimoto didn't want Naruto and Hinata's relationship to be plagued by immature themes and antics like the twinkling eyes, the bathhouse peeping and perving, the nose bleeding or being flustered when asked "do you like Hinata?. I think Kishimoto's intention was to portray their relationship in a more mature and serious light putting all that comedy aside. That is why part of your proposal wouldn't have fit Kishimoto's idea of what he wanted for Naruto and Hinata I believe. The seriousness and maturity of their relationship would not have fitted the plot as I am sure the idea was to maintain the thrill of who's ending with who until the end. The thing is thinking how to rewrite this love story with the following challenges in mind: 1. Making it serious, but not obvious 2. Maintaining the Sakura red herring I think that's what Kishimoto's editor wanted. In conclusion, for me The Last is what needs total rewriting. Well written, this would have been a very wonderful and beautiful love story. How would you have rewritten The Last?

The fact Kishimoto has been mixed up on his writing just because of being a fan service. That's why the anime has been mixed up based on which couple are more popular to pair up until the pain arc was planned NaruHina and not the beginning of the manga. Especially The Last wasn't made by Kishimoto as well which SP did. It's like he is all mixed up and doesn't know where to start just because of popularity poll where people has most opinion which character should pair up around the world for the sake of making people happy. I did do some research which is not the reason he doesn't like woman nor doesn't know how to make romance, he was too focused on popular opinion from other people. He was all too mixed up, doesn't know where to start, wasn't planned from the beginning, he let SP do the work for him, focus on which character is likable and popular. For all I know is that Naruto og, Naruto Shippuden, and Boruto are fan service. But most likely Naruto og is less fan service then other shows. Tbh, Kishimoto should've been making his own plan instead of focusing other people what they like. (English isn't my first language, sorry if this doesn't make any sense)

@@dafilmqueen556 As long the character is accurate of what Kishimoto designed the character instead of SP animators. I don't think watching the show is much accurate since most of them are fillers, either the manga or novels is accurate as well of what they've showed you more details. If your talking about The Last, I agree, they need to recreate it since it's very rushed which makes NaruHina a bit unexpected. It just seems like they're forcing Naruto to be with Hinata with all the guilt and gaslight in some scene. He probably should have let go of Sakura and accept that she doesn't love him as the way he thought she would. I don't know how NaruHina would approach, but Naruto should realize on his own that Hinata loved him and make his choice to be with her and make up a plan and ask someone for help which would be cute. And maybe Hinata would have her own development and shows how she can be on her own to show Naruto she's strong to be alone without him which Naruto assumed, but didn't show it yet in the movie. And maybe until the end Hinata had the courage to confess to him for so long as well. I mean, I had a lot of plan for there development but it just seems like they haven't during Boruto. I'm not much of a writer, and wished the accuracy fan made love story for them somewhere.

Just reverse the gender, it would be VERY creepy when a male character would be so obsessed with a female character. This alone for me is a bad sign
