I saw these episodes quite some time ago in my early adulthood. When i first saw them i understood the pain expressed here. When my dad passed away not too long ago, i remembered these episodes and watched them again on yt through reactions and i felt like i truly understood the sadness and sorrow displayed here. It is the first time you see Naruto without hope and in tears. Such a powerful moment it hits like a meteor. Jiraya needed to go so Naruto knows loss, and the sudden moment of inappropriate levity was absolutely perfect to bring us back from despair. This is where Naruto lost his innocence in the ninja world, until this point the loss has always had degrees of seperation. Parents he never knew, a new friend, a friend walking the path of darkness yes, but not a de facto parent and its in those moments we have to grow up. Shikamaru, his best friend, so recently had to learn this lesson and in true wingman fashion he put a shot across his nose to pull him back into the fight.

Itachi and Jiraiya are the absolute best characters, without them both, Konoha wouldn't had survived if they weren't there. They kept tabs on everything. At face value you only saw a pervert and a traitor but they were always protecting Konoha from the shadows guiding them to the light. They were both selfless and they both loved the people of Konoha more than anything. They both knew and played their roles. Naruto and Sasuke would not had become who they are without them both.

Naruto couldnt convince sasuke with words but he can convince with fists that are hardened by loss. And sasuke if I know him can appreciate a avenger, a person who kept going with the drive even after losing people. So naruto can understand sasuke more and sasuke can understand naruto also

When people call Sasuke extreme or terrible for his desire to take revenge on the village that used his name for their own benefit, ruined his family and destroyed his entire life, it tells me that they have no idea how trauma works and affects people's decision-making in the real world...let alone a deeply scarred teenager. They don't like characters who make who make realistic decisions, only the ones that make cookie cutter anime choices that rarely translate to reality

Imma disagree with everyone in the comments. Everyone Naruto cares about did him dirty in these episodes except Iruka....and that includes Shikamaru. 1. They ambushed him with Jirayas death in a meeting where everyone knew but him. 2. When Shikamaru lost Asuma he had his whole family, Choji and Ino there for him. We literally see here Naruto has no one. Shikamarus dad literally helped him cope in a beautiful scene......Shikamaru didn't even visit Naruto until he had to to try to get info about the code. Only Iruka was there just to be there for him. As always.
