The full answer to most of the questions, lies in a pretty long series of episodes, that could be considered "filler". They provide [important] back story information, but they aren't directly relevant to the war currently happening. I hope you guys watch it, whether you react to it or not. In fact, a lot of the remaining episodes are like this. There will be quite a few episodes that are there to fill in details about characters they're introducing. In addition, expect a lot of [LONG] flashbacks, with additional details filled in.

The manga as a whole is just better that's all. Mainly cause it's not like listening to a 4 year old telling you about there day. No filler no random tangents just a concise story that's easy to follow. That doesn't mean the anime does not have awesome moments, but as far as story is concerned it's all over the place.

They were already resurrected and part of a filler arc that you guys skipped which had them have a rematch with Choji, Neji and Shikimaru who trapped them in a jitsu during the war arc but they escaped it and kicked their asses showing their growth and how far they had come. You missed some fun filler episodes including one with Kakashi just going nuts with Zabuza's sword and help with Guy taking down some of the Seven Swordsmen. A Shame but not necesarry to watch.
