Well, losing his hands only affected him for a limited time. He was still a solid threat at the start of Shippuden.

@Sparanda314 Yeah, shippuden he still was under the effect of the seal, but he could still do so much despite that. Man fought a 4 tailed naruto and was still in good condition after everything.

@@AlexaelVongola My understanding is that the seal only affected the body that was hit with it, so as soon as he moved to a new body at the end of Part 1 it didn't matter anymore. Seeing as he had full use of his arms in Shippuden, I'm pretty sure that's the case.

It was brought up by suigetsu that the only reason sasuke won against him was due to orochimaru still not being able to use his arms​, so the reaper death seal carries over even when he swaps bodies. @@Sparanda314

So I'm looking back on the fights orochimaru had, while he is still able to use some jutsu's they are all ones he never throws hand signs for, so I'm guessing while he can't use jutsu that he has to use hand signs to cast. He can still use the skills that he is extremely familiar with that his body memorize, like the snake abilities and rashomon summoning (he only bit his fingers and smacked his hands down to summon them fighting 4 tail naruto)
