However, less than a year after the Naruto vs Sasuke battle, Kakashi created a new jutsu called Purple Lightning. How strong is Purple Lightning and just what is the jutsu? " kakashi's father is Sakuko Hatake, the genius ninja feared as the White Fang of the Leaf. In his time even the Legendary Sanin paled in comparison. -Minato Namikaze However in his(Sakumo) time the Sanin were different. Orochimaru wasn't a forbidden jutsu obsessed snake. He hadn't stolen scrolls yet. Jiraya didn't learn sage mode and the Rasengan didn't exist yet. Tsunade's fist weren't as strong and she had her fear of blood. I think Sakumo might have been as strong as part 1 Kakashi or at best war arc(excluding Kamui and DMS)

Its true that the sanin dont compare to themselves now, Jiraiya probably was not a sage, Oro was not a walking science experiment and Tsunade could not heal instantly from attacks but they were still famous for a reason. If they were capable of being beaten by someone that was part 1 kakashi strong then they would not have developed this reputation. This period was where there reputation stems from after all, not what they could do later in life as no one really knows about those feats because they all basically left the public spot light.

The thing about purple lightning is that it is the true perfection of the lightning blade. Kakashi admitted the raikiri was incomplete and the sharingan DID NOT complete the jutsu, it simply compensated for the jutsus flaws. Purple lightning is the result of a kakashi with at least double the chakra reserves and stamina that he had in the war arc and 20 years of extra experience coming back to the incomplete jutsu and perfecting it as its own self reliant jutsu. The tsuchikage i believe confirmed that purple lightning has a higher attack potency, and we know it can be used at close or long range as well as manipulated into things like lightning cable as well as being spammable. This jutsu is pure hax honestly and more than makes up for the lose of the incomplete lightning cutter. Losing his sharingan forced Kakashi to use his natural genius and evolve as a shinobi instead of using kamui as a crutch. I think Hokage Kakashi is easily stronger than Tsunade, Hiruzen, and maybe even Tobirama with his 1000+ arsenal, all 5 natures, hax purple lightning, his rasengan, multishadow clone jutsu, shikamaru tier intelligence, taijutsu superior to base gais as well as access to at least the 1st gate, summoning hounds, and twice as much chakra/stamina as war arc Kakashi who fought all 7 swordsmen and 6 bijuu and Obito and Kaguya with no rest. People sleep on kakashi but the dude is fucking hax, even without sharingan theres no need to even mentiom DMS Kakashi which is solo god of the naruto verse

He would be able to keep pace in battle w/ Tobirama, plus he can disrupt ftg seals with doton and use head hunter jutsu to pop underground while using multi shadow clone to confuse, pretty much making ftg useless against him.

I would argue that purple lighting is more powerful than than the previous versions , kakashi started to use purple lightling because of the drawbacks of the lightning blade and because of the visible light it create causing his tunnel vision , in chemistry light with high frequencies go from red being the lowest to purple being the highest , blue being before purple is the highest visible light , once you enter the purple , these light goes on to the ultra violet spectrum where light is not visible to human eye anymore , or at least at a high degree , this causing kakashi to have more vision to where he is going to target his attack

What makes you say its less powerful. We all read the novel. Minato said it was incomplete, not that he needed a sharingan to complete it. Kakashi went from chidori to the more powerful raikiri and then to shiden. its not a downgrade. The problem kakashi had was low chakra due to the sharingan. Thats why he never put much work into more varients of raikiri. Now that the sharingan ws gone he had way more chakra to play around with. The sharingan only really helped with using raikiri, and now he has a way to use it without the sharingan. We've seen characters move really fast without the sharingan and be able to attack. How ever there are inconsistancies in the manga and anime. In terms of the anime, we saw when Sasuke was learning chidori in part 1, some of the lightning from the jutsu scratched his shoulder. This was because it was a high ranking jutsu that requires chakra control or unless you can hurt yourself. The same goes for rashenshuriken. So for the ninja tool there should be limits to the jutsu's you can use. When Boruto used shiden to destroy the iron sand I was expecting his hand to get damages since it wasnt his chakra being used. As for the manga, if it was kakashi fighting AO instead of Mitsuki, then the battle would have been over before it started. When sasuke used chidori in part 1 it wouldnt have been as powerful as kakashi's, so I doubt Mitsuki's own is as powerful either

All 3 lightning hand gun-blade seem the same but one having a more concentration of chakra. My understanding is (using gas, liquid,gas, plasma analogy) , sasuke can use chidory more freely because the chakra is compressed like water. Still focus but lose enough to shape and since it’s stated sasuke is not “good” with chakra control he can’t use the raikiri because the level of control and consecration to use it is beyond his level. The raikiri can’t be manipulated because it’s similar to solid but the power in the hand is the strongest blow that you can deal. And purple lightning being a gas form it’s the weakest in power but it’s the most free and easiest and safest to use out of all 3. Can be shoot out or held together to strike. If someone see this please comment if I’m close with this because if not than all 3 just look and act the same with different name

Boruto super compresses rasengan, or went naruto 4 tail mode ate the beast bomb and shot it after compressing it. Don’t know what exactly you mean it been a while but that how I think of it. By compression they can make a attack stronger. Sacrificing Area of effect damage to a sniper shot with that much force behind it. Don't forget kakashi can shoot the lightning blade make it a dog shaped creature. He can also create a lightning clone and it is quite dangerous for the opponent. He can also infuse his kunai with lightning element and throw it to his opponent, he did this to Obito. All those technique, I don't think he need a Sharingan to do all that. He only need Sharingan to do the lightning blade thrust attack. Don't forget also most of his fight before war arc, he is not really using his Sharingan abilities like kamui or genjutsu. When he fought Pain, Hidan, and Kakuzu he did not use any of Sharingan abilities, well he use kamui to absorb the nail that pain shoot at him and to save choji but that was after the fight ends. Now without Sharingan he can use purple lightning which is way safer and easier to use but still has the same damage as chidori. Imagine now Kakashi fighting Kakuzu, Hidan, and Pain again but with more chakra and more stamina, I believe Kakashi can at least destroy 3 or 4 pain, he can defeat Kakuzu and Hidan too.

From my understanding. Raikiri and Chidori are technically the same jutsu, just as Windows 10 and Windows 8 are both Windows OS. Raikiri requires better control and more chakra, but it's leaner (less hand signs for example), just as Windows 10 being smaller but also requiring better PC specs to run. Kakashi didn't teach Sasuke the more refined version of the Chidori probably because he didn't think he could master it in time for his fight against Gaara, so he instead opted to teach him version 1 of the jutsu, which didn't require as high of a chakra control. The Shiden is an even more perfected version of the base Chidori because it doesn't have any drawbacks. Kakashi being able to use it like Sasuke uses Chidori and form various variants in the novel is probably because of the fact that he doesn't have the sharingan eating up his chakra anymore, it's like taking off a weight off your shoulder, but even when he had the sharingan he could still manipulate the Raikiri to a certain extent, as seen with the lighting wolf, or in one of the anime fillers when he was a kid, he expanded his Chidori to hit enemies in a wide area, but with less destructive power. To keep with the computer analogies, imagine Kakashi being a PC that can barely, just barely run Windows 10, even opening a browser window would choke it, Kakashi had low chakra reserves to begin with, but with the sharingan he could barely save chakra for something else, he can only use the base, but perfected form of the Chidori, the Raikiri effectively. Sasuke is like a high end PC running Windows 8, for all intents and purposes it's the same thing, but with his specs he can even have 3 instances of Crysis running at max settings at the same time, Sasuke has the specs to modify the Chidori and make variants to it.

I would like to see an arc where Boruto must master stronger lightning style jutsu. And as Kakashi created the chidori/lightning blade (Sasuke’s adopted trade mark) I’d like to see Kakashi join in on Sasuke and Boruto’s training and aid Boruto in learning the Jutsu without the ninja tool. Since Boruto doesn’t have the sharingan but has an affinity for lightning style it suits him. Not to mention I’m sure he can grow to be proficient even more so then Kakashi because of his Jougan.

I mean from what we've seen of Purple lightning in the novel it is defintely a more powerful/destructive type of jutsu than Chidori is. Chidori is a jutsu that focuses on assassination and uses focused lightning chakra in his hand to pierce a target which I guess you can say is more powerful than Shiden in a way, but straight destructive abilites alone Shiden tops Chidori. In the Kakashi novel he was breaking Kahyo's Ice style (Defintely Kage level, she fought the 4th raikage pretty evenly with her Ice) with his Purple lightning into "miniscule" pieces as it said, the collison was shaking the aircraft and sent a piano flying through the air. Then near the end of the novel when he shot his Purple lightning into the sky it literally split the clouds and started up a thunderstorm, some lightning rained down and split a big ass tree on the ground😂. It also sent him flying through out the air and even Onohiki was surprised, Chidori is most likely more lethal but just take all of that into account about Shiden and I think the feats speak for It's self that's it's more powerful/destructive than Chidori.

Hokage Kakashi is no pushover! Assuming Kakashi lost access to all the abilities he ever used his Sharingan to copy and perform, Purple Lightning is a POWERFUL attack. Kakashi would also still be able to use Mud Wall (as he was shown using it flashback in training with Obito), and likely other earth style jutsu like headhunter. He can still summon his ninja dogs, and has always been proficient in Taijutsu.

Chidori and raikiri is used for assasination;closing the distance and deleting opp with a deadly thrust;purple lightning is not that so its not an upgrade it a different jutsu altogether.Purple lighting is kakashi adapting to not having the sharingan by actually usimg other lightimg jutsu its that simple. Everyone in the comment saying that “this jutsu is weaker than that jutsu” etc. But, everyone should remember the basics that no matter how high tier the jutsu is, it depends on the level of chakra and its manipulation added to it. It is the extent of how strong a jutsu is. Think of it, the chibaku tensei of Pain/Nagato is different from Madara’s or Sasuke’s. And remember, the eight gate of Might Dai is weaker than Might Guy’s 8th Gate. Or, the way how Jiraya said that a Rasengan is just Rasengan, it will be stronger depending on how strong your chakra is. So stop comparing Kakashi’s lightning techniques to Sasuke.

I disagree about the reasoning for Kakashi's limitation with chidori, lightning blade, and purple lightning, as well as the power scaling. Tunnel vision is usually due to inexperience, not a particular technique. That does't exist with any other bright jutsu in the Naruto verse. Chidori may be a lesser rank jutsu but it's situational. Lightning blade is an unparalleled S rank assassination technique. And Purple lightning appears to be a combination of the two.

Guys the reason kakashi can’t use chidori in other ways like sasuke does, is because kakashi first of no longer posses sharingan which is essential to controlling chidori, second is because he only posses half chakra than normal ppl, but ofc he has talent and skill and is so smart, and also his 5 senses are a lot better than anyone else’s, he had to pay a price to get these powers and that is to have less chakra, all i am saying is that If u don’t have chakra more than normal ppl u will never be able to change the way of using a jutsu or add chakra natures to jutsus, and ppl train to make their chakra reserves bigger and get more chakra than normal ppl... so yeah, kakashi no longer can get more chakra than he already has, if he was able to then he would probably have as much chakra as sasuke does. Also u don’t need the sharingan to control chidori, but it’s super hard without a sharingan... and there’s another point, When having little chakra it’s so easy to control, and that’s why kakashi can easily copy someone’s jutsu and use it to its full extent, and if u have a lot of chakra it would be so hard to control, and the chidori has more chakra than what kakashi/normal ppl could control, so with a sharingan u will be able to control chakra and jutsus.

Agreed. I don't know why many fans still claim that purple lighting is more powerful than the Chidori or the lighting blade or any of the previous lighting moves such as lighting shadow clones or lighting figures. We all know that the high Chidori streaming is the only streaming intensity to rival that of the Raikage's or Killer Bee's natural lighting chakra. I think purple lighting is a very weak version of lighting power that still serves the purpose. Besides, we have seen other versions of lighting moves from Mitsuki and Boruto himself. I think the concept of what chakra nature you possess is less concieved and more generic in Boruto's episodes, not as it was back in Naturo's.

people took the scene in the novel out of context. easy to summon rain clouds when you're already surrounded by clouds based off where you are in the altitude and being knocked off balance is more about him falling from the air blimp at a high speed. Kakashi himself in the novel says it's weaker.

Maybe as far as intelligence but he was pretty antisocial and is pretty darn weak at this point without it. All his most powerful jutsu that saved his ass so so so many times were all possible because he had the sharigan. He may have copied a lot of jutsu but none of them seem very useful as he uses all of a handful of non sharigan/lightning blade jutsu. Has his dogs and his mud wall and water dragon. Some basic fire style. That's about all hes pulled out. I assume that's because the other ones just ain't gunna cut it. Imo he would have lost to zabuza if he didnt have his sharigan. In fact he would have lost most if his major fights if not all. So.

Bob Dylan All good points. But the Sharingan uses 2/3 of his chakra reserves. His sharingan did save his ass a bunch of times. But because he copied a 1000 jutsu, it means he knows those 1000 jutsu. So with double the reserves, he has more chakra to work with a makes him a bit more versatile, imo.

Right, now there doesn't seem to be a big difference. It is still lighting. Chidori was close range while purpel lighting is mid and close (but sasuke also did this with his Chidori) and full body (sasuke did this as well). What we know from the Kakashi novel it seems to be pretty powerful but that could also be because Kakashi is using it.

There's one thing I always wished tho I know in the situation they were in there's no way it could have happened that I know of but I always wished kakashi would have got obitos eye back or Imo the other eye that obito used to transport parts of his body to that other plan so it looked like attacks were just passing threw him. I would say it be awesome if he got both but idk if that would have been a good thing because when both eyes were brought together the extreme side effects of the m sharringan had on the user started to show very fast. but it's crazy how when they were apart the side effect of losing your light or vision didn't bother them. It did take a lot out of kakashi but he didn't have uchiha blood and hashiramas cells like obito. I have always wondered about that is the reason obito didn't have the side effects because his eyes were not together or because he had hashiramas cells implanted in him? That would be a awesome video explaining why obitos eyes never lost its light but when they were back in obito the effect started hitting him hard. Then again he just had the ten tails riped out of him and he was slowly dying so maybe that's why it seemed to be hitting him so bad.
