I wonder about the temperatures of the drives, the CPU. I built myself a few NAS/PC-s with CFI a7879, they are all different, but I always used some low power CPU - preferably 35W - T/E series intel/amd or celerons (~50W). I built them one by one through the years, so they are an "interesting" mix - the oldest is from sandy bridge times (celeron 847). The temps seem mostly dependent on the model of the HDD, the Reds are colder, seagate iron woolfs not so much. Now I look at the relatively newer exos for archive oriented build, I have a few of their predecessors and while "archive" seagate drives are slow for huge bulk transfers, they were ok temperature wise (not better than reds, of course). I have also a few HE drives and they are the hottest ones. I am always using a couple of the "NAS"-es as universal servers, so I had the chance to check out how they behave under various loads... Well, I have been eyeballing this case, but it seems a bit too crowded, but 5 is better than 4 hard drives, so I am still wondering if it will be fine for my taste.

+1 for hdd temps
@gchemello2 жыл бұрын
Wondering as well if any of you can list their HDD temps, i did my self this same NAS, and the HDD temps looks a little bit higher for several factors, i an using WD RED PRO 10TB disk, 5 of them, and the drivers on the middle usually have temps around 50/52C the ones on the border around 46/48C, without a huge load, just regular use connected to a nextcloud server, just for local use. The lack of air flow in this case and the tightness of the disk without any air gap to get air flowing from the front cooler makes them impossible to cool down, if you have this, try and remove the front cooler just to see what i am talking about, put it back in place when finished, at least some air need to be flowing. The case looks pretty cool, but i think i am changing the case to have a better temp environment. 2nd question was regarding the wattage consumption, is there any suggestion? Already try and config the disk to sleep when possible, but with a nextcloud server attached, this seams impossible to be happening. Thinking about moving this away from it.
@sevezart2 жыл бұрын
@@gchemello thanks for sharing your experience, appreciate. Yeah, 50/52 in idle is just very high for hdd. Not considering this case for purchase anymore. For hdd the optimal temp is under 40, up to 45 max under load. Anything above this range really shortens the lifespan of the drives.

Imho: People massively overestimate the need for a dedicated or even iGPU for privately used (Truenas) Plex Workloads, at best it might be interesting down the line as an upgrade for av1 encoding. I have a xeon e-2136 build and an older i5-3470, both running scale. Locally the TVs do the decoding anyway and even 150mbps Video has been a non issue. Transcoding wise (for the few times I stream something to my phone) the i5 build goes to 34%CPU utilization and the xeon hovers around 8% even passively cooled it hardly reaches more than 8°C above ambient. Sure using a GPU saves you CPU load when transcoding but for most of us the CPU sits Idle all day anyway, buying a dedicated GPU (that also increases idle Power Draw) just does not make sense unless you run your private streaming service and encode multiple streams at the same time for multiple users. This of course might be more pertinent to those of you who run a Blue iris or similar CCTV setup. Regarding the NICs: I do some 4k editing and decided to hold of going above 1G for the time beeing, cost wise I found it better to have a nvme SSD (1TB from crucial costs just 70€ right now) in the editing machine that holds the windows Offline files from the share, working that way gives you superior performance anyway as even with something like a 2.5 gigabit Network the true bottleneck realy lies with the HDDs.

What's the power consumption during standby (when disks are not spinning)?
@CurtisHowell2 жыл бұрын
This setup can easily be done with a 128gb (or less) boot drive, 4/8gb of ram, and an I3 or less. Install the OS and setup raid. Create a share and you're good. If all it is is a network share you barely need anything for that.

Интересное решение для домашнего НАСа. Кто нибудь уже пытался запускать панели для Веб сайтов? Типа Fastpanel и аналоги?

Remove the metal face plate (there’s mesh behind it) and you’ll get better cooling according to other reviews.
@TechWithYouVee2 жыл бұрын
In my unit, the mesh has large enough holes to cater for a large volume of air to pass through. I cannot comment on previous iterations of this case but mine is working great 😊

Great work!. Have used WD Red in a QNAP in the past. I have never seen HDDs fail so quickly. I think WD Red they are rubbish. I hope yours are better. Please promote local business rather than Amazon, you are part of local business aren't you?

U know that the 5700g only supports pcie 3.0 so anything pcie 4.0 will work only in 3.0 speed

Yup, I also connected the Pcie 4.0 NVMe into the PCIe 3.0 slot on the motherboard haha. Im not to fussed, I got the stick for cheap on Amazon anyways.

Fellow Aussie looking to build this one. Can you link the AliExpress seller for the case, as many sellers cancel the orders. How are the drive temps in this one?

Hi Simon, I can't really speak much about temps now because I haven't started loading it with anything yet. Currently it's just idling running PiHole a.aliexpress.com/_vWkY4L

Curious if you can put more than 2 sata ? How you installed 2 ssds can you show please ? Want to build in this case but with z690i unify.
@TechWithYouVee2 жыл бұрын
In the location I mounted the SSD, you could put another one directly on top of that which will still allow the cover of the case to slide in smoothly. You will need to 3D print a mounting bracket or two way tap 3 SSDs together in one thick stack. Also, under the PSU, you can add two more SSD but those will just sit there loosely. If you do plan to do any of this. I suggest going for Samsung EVOs as they come in an aluminium casing which naturally helps with heat dissipation. The WD Greens I'm using have a plastic casing which sucks.
@meccu192 жыл бұрын
@@TechWithYouVee good to hear. I am In spot to use pcie x16 to quadro card or hba )) If I would use so many ssds I definitely need to go with hba. I won’t trust all my hdds to small adapter

Do you have any experience with ecc memory on this motherboard?
@thebeatconnect12 жыл бұрын
The AMD G series don't support ECC only the X and G Pro. I learnt the hard way when I brought 5600g and it had no ecc support. Swapped my 3700x on my gaming pc with the 5600g. So, now I am using 5600g for gaming and 3700x for virtualization and Nas. I had a gtx 650 lying around which I used to install proxmox. After, I removed the GPU and I run the Nas headless and access it through the proxmox web gui
@EdvardssonTech2 жыл бұрын
@@thebeatconnect1 ohh yeah that's right. Are you able to boot without a gpu installed with your 3700x?
@thebeatconnect12 жыл бұрын
@@EdvardssonTech yes you can boot fine without GPU. If I then want to access the BIOS to make some changes that's when I will need to add a GPU. Also, with ECC make sure the motherboard support it. I went with an asrock b550m as asrock have better ECC support on their motherboard for AMD compared to other companies
@EdvardssonTech2 жыл бұрын
@@thebeatconnect1 I discovered that too that it's quite difficult to find if the motherboard supports it or not. I'll probably go with the ASUS ROG Strix B550-I Gaming since it easier to get in Sweden than an asrock motherboard! Thanks for a great video by the way!

Way too big power supply. They are most efficient near their capacity. A 500W would have been plenty. I never use Raid-Z due to the cpu usage, rebuild time and possible complications. Only Raid-1 (with local replication to another single drive), or Raid-10. With 5 HDs, I would also have 1 as a spare.
@ErisonSilvaa8 ай бұрын
Welll using power supply calculator, it was less than 300w, then I was thinking that 400w would be more than enough
