Clearly there has been violent volcanic activity on ancient mars looking at the larger rocks scattered around the surface. Also considerable flowing water looking at rock erosion and water channels/ lake /sea beds. But if so it would be millions of years ago and until manned spacecraft land on the planet we will be unable to verify any of this. Interesting but only speculation until we can examine and carry out checks. The likelihood is that there was extensive water flowing on the planet and there was volcanic activity, but the likelihood of any life previous or unlikely present is very remote because of the likely enormous time span since either was present on the planet. Nevertheless very interesting to look at our nearest neighbor.
