I’m reading a cool novel called Solar Flare right now and it’s a “what if” scenario book. And it was published 25 years ago. Scary potential

I wanna know if strong CME's influence our behavior. In other word's, can the radiation from a strong CME drive us crazy for a short period of time.

If a CME is a solar storm than its intensity would be determined not just by the size of its mass but also its density and pressure. If this is true does that mean a smaller focused CME with a dense mass and high velocity could do more damage than a CME of larger mass that's slower and less dense?

relative to carrington [estimate], how big? guess the mayans were almost correct ... lol
@dynasty4125
@dynasty4125 4 жыл бұрын
My guess would be, judging by looking at the Stereo A data, also from online sources for a decent ballpark answer, I could say this CME could've definitely done billions of dollars of damage and bring G5 storming for several 3 hour periods, it sustained a -40bz for around 12 hours and could've easily been as bad as the March 1989 Quebec event and possibly worse. The Quebec event went down to just short of -600 DST, used to measure the strength of geomagnetic storms, many scientists are saying that the Carrington Event was around 1000-1760 DST, some scientists are estimating if this would've hit Earth, it would've registered around 1200 DST. Sorry for the late answer, but yes, this was Carrington-class.

Is the energy that comes from a CME capable of lighting a fluorescent or neon like light and could possibly make it possible to engineer a shield that creates a light like a fluorescent light but in a reverse path which turns the particles that create light by reacting with the gas by converting them into electricity? The original idea was to make an upside-down double pane fish bowl and fill the space in between the panes with a gas that can hold a charge similar to neon lights. Placing different sensors inside the fish bowl and determining the properties of different elements in addition to their colors. Maybe there's a compound that when it's vaporized and a charge is placed it's light also has radiation shielding properties?
