Thanks for the video! It is a shame that a World famous track was demolished to build a POS mall in Moron Valley with half the suites sitting vacant. I am watching this while sitting in the Lowes parking lot on Day St., which I believe would of been right where turn 9 was, looking at the MV on the hill. The amazing races we all could be watching instead of having a run down, uninhabited building filling this property. Yes, there are other great establishments here but this was a huge step backwards.

Lowes would be the wrong area. The "S" turns would have gone from Costco to JC Penney, turn No. 6 would have followed the driveway in front of the north entrance of the mall east of the movie theater, turn No. 8 on the northwest corner of the track would be near the bus depo on the northeast side of the mall and the turn went around the hill in front of the depo and jumped on the straightaway towards the sears autocenter building. Turn No. 9 would be northeast of Cottonwood and Day Street. The Finish line was located near the intersection of Acacia Ave and Sweetgum Ave.

@@HighwayLand Interesting. Thank you for the clarification. I never experienced a race at this track even though I lived eight miles away on the other side of Riverside. The only thing I ever witnessed was some drag races, from my Brothers back yard North of Ironwood circa 1986-87? So I was kinda pulling from memory. Much appreciation and what a shame the Track was wiped and replaced with this vapid mall.

@@veganbear8512 I was at this track when I was 7 with my two uncles, and that was back in summer of 86. I had a few photos from the bleachers near turn 6 but I have no idea if I have them now. But yea talk about some great memories. It would be nice if they could put a memorial up on the grassy hill north of Town Cir and just west of Memorial Way, this was the location of the beginning of the famous "S" curves.

Thank you so much for producing and sharing. I was a corner worker/flagger in the SCCA thru all the races at Riverside thru the 80’s until the last race where I had T9 for my turn assignment for the 1988 Bud 400.. So many great times spent in that Riverside Dust.

Thank you so much for this. I grew up 20 minutes from the RIR and my Dad who introduced me to stock car racing at age 5 and I were there for Nascar races beginning for me in the early 1970's. I also went there for SCORE off road, IMSA endurance, Can-Am, IROC, and everything else that raced there. Good memories!

I moved to Riverside in 1978 because of RIR, March AFB, and sunshine! I joined the RIR Booster Club and Cal-Club to join the Flag Team. Was stationed at Turn8 for a few of the NASCAR Races, but the single ARMCO looked puny as 4300 Lbs race cars skidded by my turn!

Ford VS Ferrari brought me here. And I have been at the Moreno Valley Mall several times over the last few years and I had no clue on what it was. Why no memorial? The track went right through the grounds of the mall itself, you would think they would have done SOMETHING!

I lived in Edgemont Ca. 1993 for a few months, right next to the racetrack one night we walked a lap with a 12 pack of beers, they had cut huge swaths of the track so we hiked down, walked 50 yards and climbed back on the track, it was the bank when I realised I was walking on a racetrack then the Grandstands where the sign still most of the letters RIVERSIDE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY.

I don't have 4 hours to watch but are the Can-Am vacuum cleaner cars mentioned at all in the video? I lived a mile from the tract from 1969 to 1971. I did not miss many if any of the races there and even made most of the practices. Great place.

Goddamned local residents and real estate developers! They destroyed this fantastic homage for motorsports. Forget Long Beach and Laguna Seca, RIR was _THE_ racing circuit of the west coast. And it's gone from a dumb notion of community _"progress"_ and the complaints of the track being _"too loud."_ Rat b@stards. I hope that area is forever plagued with the constant "noise" of crime, nighttime gunfire and plenty of traffic.

Yah , let’s ditch this and replace it with a high end mall that’s more dangerous. They occasionally held motorcycle competition there from time to time if I’m not mistaken. Watch some of the best driver’s you have ever seen and help pick up trash and you’re gate fee is covered . Music to the ears .

@SonnyBurnett19885 жыл бұрын
Nope it's been gone since 89. It closed because Fritz Duda, who bought the racetrack from Les Richter, decided to sell the land for an outlet mall and more houses. Its fate is similar to that of Ontario Motor Speedway
