NASCAR Classic Race Replay: Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski fight after 2014 Texas playoff race

The first year of the NASCAR Playoffs elimination era ushered in a brand-new level of intensity during the 10-race postseason. Nowhere was that more apparent than Texas, where on-track contact between Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski led to a post-race pit-road throwdown.

Thomas That article is out dated, it was found after the fact that the 2014 cup cars had 950-1000 hp. There was a long article about in a oval track engineering magazine. But I agree the current package blows! I would love to see the cup cars run 2014 hp levels and composite bodies like the xfinity cars.

@benjamincombs3403
@benjamincombs3403 4 жыл бұрын
James West I agree. There is nothing better than the high pitch 10,000 rpm Nascar days. Although, times have changed and so has the focus on aerodynamics and Less horsepower with high downforce. The splitter and the “giant ass spoiler” and 550-600 hp produce huge drag in the air stabilizing the car maybe slowing it down a little but the mph entering turn 1 at mile and a half tracks are only 5-10 mph slower. The bigger the drag the bigger the draft, and quicker closing rates. The diversity allows them to run the drafting package at Kansas, Chicago, Auto Club, Charlotte All-star open/race and Michigan. Turn around and the new package ran some of the best races on road courses too. My opinion bro, the racing that is going on in today’s Nascar is the best it’s ever been. The tapered spacer super speedway races was a success all 2019 having to include the 2020 Daytona 500. The mile and half’s were still dominated by Toyota simply because they’ve been driving the Camry since 2010 so they already had the certain feel the drivers were familiar with and the new Camaro was a disaster while mustang was average. Ironic how that’s been reversed almost in the first races of 2020 before the plague hit. **But this package brings amazing restarts, the ability to save more gas and tires because less rpms and speed. The handling is better so drivers take bigger risk also the speed is lower so they are easier to negotiate. Incentive for clean air allows max downforce and handling. Side drafts have become commonplace with all the air being dumped onto the big spoilers. Just my opinion bro. God bless.

@@benjamincombs3403 I understand where you're coming from. Fans find entertainment in different aspects of the sport. I would rather watch a caution free race at Atlanta or Darlington or Chicagoland with the cars having very little downforce and 900 hp, than watching guys be able to drive through the corners while barely lifting. I personally get way more enjoyment watching a driver wrestling the car, and having to use his or her talents to save tires and fuel. I'm not saying that I don't enjoy the restarts with this high drag package, but I understand why Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski complain about how these cars drive an race, even while they're still winning and running well. With the way these cars are designed, it's very rare to see a driver spin on their own. To me, that's what made NASCAR so good in the late 1980s - early 2000s. But, I do understand that those are of a past era. I just wish NASCAR didn't feel like they had to try to bunch the cars together to make it more entertaining. God bless. Stay healthy.

Money. Lack thereof actually. Decline in attendance live and on TV led to rules package and mandatory re-usage of engines that we have today. It is astonishing to see the decline of blown engines from 2014 to 2015 and beyond. It certainly saves wear and tear when you aren't pulling 9800 RPMs but the racing is not very good anymore. No throttle response and with the amount of downforce, it feels like I'm watching a video game.

The only thing what worth watching that season is the high horsepower those cars had. Full 950 horsepower without any tapered spacers. But what got me into fustration is the rebranded Chase with elimination style, way too much drivers, and awkward eligabity nonsense. Win and pressure is off for numerous amount of races. Then why as a race fan I care about you being in the race. I'm like the older Chase but not this kinda chase, later renamed playoffs. This is already 3rd dominant season had been tossed out from Jeff Gordon. Our wonder boy could of joined Earnhardt and Petty with each having 7 championships but Brian France's creation denied him. 2014 making it the worse because he was eliminated and no longer having a chance of winning the championship compare to 2004 and 2007. The full season version could of more entertaining with Gordon holding off Logano for the championship.
