I can’t tell much difference. They don’t have exotic exhaust, well, I don’t think. That would hurt your power. The only thing new about the sound is that it’s worse, muffled by WOKE Helton and the rest of WOKE nascar. They want to $&1# on the south, reap your WOKE rewards.

They sound good, but from a twitter post, one of the drivers said they were only able to reach 166mph into the corners, since nascar put the restrictor plate on the motors. weather or not the speeds reach higher, the track will surely provide pack racing with the 670 package plus a plate.

They aren’t sure about Atlanta yet. However, it seems they’re also using the 510 horsepower, 8(???) inch blade here. At a track this small pack racing is almost impossible. It's basically the old Texas high speed/high banking configuration before they butchered that track just slightly more narrow more akin to Charlotte. It's more generic cookie-cutter 1.5 mile track than I thought they were going for. That original iRacing design is not even close to how the track ended up turning out and that's a good thing.

@@cruisinwithcorey The version of Texas that had 24 degrees of banking in all four turns is what he's talking about. That configuration was very fast, and when they reduced turns 1 and 2 to 20 degrees, I would agree with him. They butchered it.

Nah you just don't know how racetracks work. New racing surfaces always suck for a few years until it gets worn in. Texas is just now reaching that point. Guys were passing 3 wide occasionally on the outside turns 1-2 during the all star race. Texas will become more and more exciting in the coming races as the surface reaches its prime.

I kind of disagree at least for the first Atlanta date. I think with it being so early in the season and with the drivers still getting used to the cars, I think the first couple races may be wreckfests. I hope they prove me wrong!

I remember when Atlanta was a oblong oval and used to host the last race of the season. I watched that classic championship race between Elliot, Allison and eventually won by Alan Kulwicki. The good old days of real bad ass race car drivers. Now they are just products of sponsorship. I still watch though.

Everyone loved old Atlanta because it hosted a couple of the best Winston finishes ever, but if you look at it other than those, it was honestly lack luster. Hell my dad, in his 60s now, remembers the talk about how the ORIGINAL Atlanta was a shit track lol

@@braydenfletcher8159 I did. Larson dominated, but there was passing going on in the rest of the field. There were multiple groves as well. Then there was even good race for the win. Now they narrowed the track. The banking is not as high as Daytona or Dega. They will be in a pack, but the track will be one grove. Kyle Busch said it best. He said we might be able to go two wide, but there will be no passing. New asphalt, no progressive banking, and less that 33 degrees of banking equals one thing. One grove no passing racing. Doesn't matter what HP/ downforce package the use.

the problem of 200 mph is a car able to turn fast at the corner. that car will win. simple formula @ cookie cutter race track. so, a race is for 10 fast cars, not 40 cars.

This is the first weekend anyone has been on the new track surface. They have to break in the pavement. They are focusing on laying rubber down on each lane of the track. They start from the bottom than work their way up. Come march they'll be running all 3 of those lines, just like the old track. Like, how it took a few years for the new pavement at texas to develop grooves, they have to do it the same way, accept this pavement here at ams allows them to do it faster. Its really cool scientifically.

@@thatcarguydom266 wider doesn’t really mean faster. The space is nice, I guess, but it’ll narrow up again in the turns (the only significant banking is above the white line in 1-2 and 3-4). Really just leaves the opportunity for someone to dive low and get hooked at a nasty angle into the wall past the finish a la davey Allison ‘92 all star. Wouldn’t be surprised if nascar applies a yellow line rule to Atlanta should they chose the 510 hp superspeedway package

Straight from the nascar site "Busch said that lap times in the slipstream improved from an unofficial 31.60 seconds (175.443 mph) to 30.60 seconds (181.176), with the anticipation that a sub-30-second lap was within reach." That said this is testing with out a ton of set up. they will be really close to the old times, they are averaging 175MPH around the whole track.

Dale died because he didn't run a head and neck restraint (Which they had back them and many years before it) he ran an open face helmet and his belts failed, due to the way he wanted them mounted, which was not the correct way to mount them. So no the cars didn't kill Dale, Dale's choices killed Dale.

I can tolerate the higher banking, should increase speeds. I don't like the narrowed surface bc it just looks even more like Charlotte. I feel like they took my favorite track on the circuit and messed it all up (I truly hope I'm wrong) If they really wanted to reconfigure it, go back to pre 1997, though I would probably be unhappy about that too....maybe it's a good thing I'm not in charge?? I work here in Hampton a couple miles from the track and I can hear the cars and even from this distance they sound freaking awesome. I can definitely tell when they hit the front stretch. They really get loud

Same. They won't ever be as good as the centre ones but I'm starting to dislike it less the more I get used to it. Hopefully in the next few seasons sponsors and teams will actually use the extra space better since it may lead to more team funding and may make the liveries better than they currently are.

Also... we're going right back to that same 510 package at Superspeedways that Logano happened to flip over with. And also this is a tire test. They aren't going to go full speed on purpose.

single cars is boring. need to see cars hitting that very noticeable seam in the surface and multiple lines and aero changes multiple cars have on each other in the turn. Need to see how turbulent the aero is.

I saw videos from an hour or 2 ago and they were just running the very low low line. This video they seem to be getting higher and higher up the track. They just getting rubber to the track, breaking it in one run at a time.
