Brett Bodine's win wasn't lucky. He was leading the race. NASCAR had him scored as the leader of the race. He had one of the best cars on the track. The conspiracy was debunked and has only been kept alive by Earnhardt and Waltrip fans who probably thought Toyota coming into NASCAR was a betrayal.

Michael McDowell winning the 2021 Daytona 500. McDowell had the whole world in front of him, which caused a big wreck that took out a few finishers & allowed him to advance. Bobby LaBonte winning the 2003 Ford 400. Bill Elliott ran outta gas in the final corner, & LaBonte claimed a last-minute victory, which would prove to be his last Cup Series win. Geoff Bodine winning the 1986 Daytona 500. Dale Earnhardt cut a tire (iirc ?) & had to go to pit row which allowed Geoff Bodine to cross the finish line & cruise towards a win.

The 1981 Gabriel 400 was a lucky win for Bobby Allison all because Kyle Petty blew his engine with a handful of laps to go. All the leaders spun in the oil and Allison went from 7th to 1st to the caution flag. Darrell waltrip stayed out on track under caution and shredded debris everywhere, so nascar ran out of laps to get the race restarted.

Fred Lorenzen winning at Bristol in '64 after Richard Petty led 442 laps has to be up there. Petty broke a rear end gear on the last lap. I've actually done the same thing Mark did. In Papyrus's NASCAR 1, I usually hit "A" to accelerate time after the checkered flag waved, rather than wait for everyone to pit. But there was one time when I was really tired that I hit "A" when the white flag waved! Unfortunately I can't recall who benefited from my goof.

The Justin Haley one sparked a new rule too. Now, if rain happens to delay the race after pitstops or incident, they rule it by positions when the caution flew. I cant remember when, but i think Chase Briscoe was sitting with a damaged car when rain came, but because he was the leader when the caution flew, he was scored the leader incase they had to call the race. I might be wrong because i cant find anything about it. But also it hasnt ever been a talking point to have enough data other finding when they exactly changed the rule.

Setting super speedway aside, if we had to pick a Cup race for luckiest win. I think Kyle Petty winning the Miller High Life 400 in 86 at Richmond has that. 4 laps to go, running like 5th. Earnhardt and Waltrip battle out front. In a battle that is obviously going to end in someone turned. Then in a feat of camera work that would make modern fox coverage blush, they miss the hook that catches the top 4 cars and others several seconds back all in a giant wreck. Kyle then slows down, gets to the caution flag first, and the race never goes back to green.
