NASCAR is much deeper than many fans realize. Today we're diving into the 2nd episode of the NASCAR Iceberg. Today we're going to be talking about dark secrets of the sports and many conspiracies revolving around the sport. This episode we're going to look at many controversies, crashes, weird moments, and odd stories about NASCAR. This is the second of a 4 part series explaining the NASCAR Iceberg! Once again I did not create this, all credit to kvapilnation.

I’ll always remember that Digger appeared in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Even as a kid that loved Digger and legitimately thought that the live action Chipmunks movies were good, the first thought I remember having was, “Did I just see that?”. And thinking about it now, it makes even less sense.

8:51 Carl Long bought the engine from Ernie Elliott, who had built the engine initially for Ganassi Racing. It was all an honest mistake. Carl had enough faith in Ernie that he wouldn’t have intentionally sold him a slightly oversized engine. The real bad guys here were NASCAR, of course. Everyone knew Long’s team was just small time and there was no way they could pay $200,000 worth of fines and continue operating. Compare this to Richard Petty having a comically oversized engine in ‘84, yet all he was fined was the race prize money and points (the win stood cause King Richard).

Kevin Ward incident with Tony Stewart hits close to home as the track is I shit you not, 10 minutes away from my home. Of course, the parents think their son was innocent in all of this. Toxicology reports came out he was higher than a kite behind the wheel, no reason to even be driving, but they let the kid anyway. He got out in a dark area on the track when he was hit, more or less raging under the influence. Unintentional and more or less unavoidable. His parents seem like they're just trying to get $$$ rather than accept their son's idiocy led to his downfall these days though.

My brother in law used to work with David Stremme when he was an up and coming late model driver in the 90’s in Indiana. He kept up with a few of the NASCAR guys that he’d met over the years. He knew Tony Stewart from making the rounds back then and said he’s about as normal and good of a guy as you could be for someone like him. He also said that Kyle Busch (and Kurt too) were really good guys as long as they weren’t at the track. Now, I’m 3rd and 4th party to these stories so take them how you will, but try not to judge these guys too harshly based on a bad experience. They spend nearly all year away from their families and then have tons of distractions at the exact time that they’re trying to focus on making a living with their performance. I met Ryan Hunter-Reay through a mutual friend at a BBQ restaurant on a Saturday night before an Indy race here in Alabama and he was a really nice guy. We talked for about 10 minutes and he kept asking me questions about myself. Almost like he was trying to get an idea of what life was like being normal. I got VIP passes to the race the next day and the guy barely acknowledged my existence. If I’d have only met him on race day, I’d have said he was an asshole who dismisses his fans. Fortunately, I met him the day before and I can say that he’s nothing like that. You may have had a negative experience with Kyle Busch, but he is also the same guy who set up a foundation and has given millions to people who cannot have children on their own.

Digger, The Quick Version: When NASCAR installed cameras inside of the tracks themselves, Fox originally called them "gopher-cams" with a non-CGI drawing of a gopher. Somebody came up with the idea of naming the gopher "Digger" and developing a series of shorts called "Digger and Friends." The problem is, there were only five of them, and one aired only once, so the same ones were shown over and over again. While the shorts were pulled after one season (and note that only Fox aired them), the characters hung around for at least one more season. I don't think Digger had that many fans in the booth, either; a few years later, when a car ran over the spot where a camera was located, somebody (I think DW) asked if Digger was OK, to which the main commentator quipped, "Digger's retired."

It was most likely the diamond grinding on the track. What also killed the 05 USA GP. They did this to crating a smoother track, and to also attempt the create better racing. But the side effect was it chews tires, as it makes grooves in the pavement. It is the fist time NASCAR went with the COT. So Goodyear, used to the 4th Gen car. Didn’t get hard enough tires for the loads. Like what Michieln Did in ‘05 But NASCARS “05 event” is probably the 69’ (nice) Alabama 500.

About Eric McClure: That 2012 crash at Talladega most certainly was the main contributor to his death, but between that crash & other crashes, injuries, & illnesses he had suffered throughout his entire career (& there were a lot, & I mean a *LOT),* it's tragically likely that he also suffered from CTE. How his death happened is still unclear, but to me his death was 1 of 2 things: Either his body shut down in his sleep & only he knew it would, or the pain he suffered from throughout his entire body coupled with CTE clouded his already damaged mind so badly he took his own life.

I feel like if it was directly kidney failure, he would have been in a hospital instead of being found at his home. I can buy it being a contributor, but not the primary cause.

This is the first KZbin channel i've seen that even hints at Dale Jr Daytona race being rigged so thank you. My brother in law was a fabricator on the Jeff Gordon rainbow warriors team and swears there was shenanigans going on in their pit. NASCAR used to come around with a cardboard box handing out the restrictor plates for teams to install themselves, and seems they had a plate with slightly larger holes to give him an extra 10-20 hp. Its my belief they are doing the same thing with the tapered spacer plate giving Bubba Wallace an advantage ever since the "noose" event. Please look into all the plate races just before and up til recent with him. It is my contention that they screwed up by giving him the larger plate and not factoring in the extra use of fuel with extra horsepower and the long green flag at the end of the "noose race" causing Bubba to run out of gas (NASCAR desperately wanted him to win). He then subsequently won the next years Talladega race and has had a car that could drive to the front with zero help in almost every superspeedway track, and I can't confirm which superspeedway race he was sent to the back but I watched him drive from 43rd to 1st in 10 laps at the beginning of the race which is basically impossible with that generation of race car. Cheers..! ✌🏽

Wasn't "Digger" a tribute to the groundhog that got hit at Pocono? Or, at least the inspiration for the camera itself? I could be entirely wrong, but I seem to remember the two being linked in some way.. I always wondered when and why Nascar got so interested in lightning near the track. Unfortunate that it happened, but kudos to Nascar for being overly cautious to prevent it from happening again.

The kid that was hit by Stewart had enough THC in his system to declare him legally 'high'. He exited his car in a dark spot of the track with poor lighting while wearing a black fire suit to confront Stewart. Its clearly Ward's fault... his parents just wanted to get rich off the situation.

If he didn't Tony Stewart should have sued his parents for defamation...almost any time Tony Stewart gets brought up some DARF jumps in typing "murderer"

I mean that this is just speculation, but I am 110% sure that had the DC Solar ponzi scheme never happened, Chip Ganassi would've never sold his NASCAR teams to Trackhouse Racing...

12:36 using the term “bad public outcry” to describe something that the newspapers and news media tries to whip up support against, while most NASCAR fans wouldn’t care about is stupid.

Can you call Shane Hmiel a bust? Guy went on to win the 4 most iconic USAC races. It’s not like his talent wasn’t there just had things that “chased” him

Had he not gotten badly injured he was gonna eventually switch to IndyCar or at least attempt the Indy 500, wish he could've done it would have been a great redemption story, especially if he became successful after NASCAR blacklisted him.

The popular assumption is Kyle Busch was suspended after 2011 Texas only because Ron Hornaday threatened to buy out a lower-level ride in Cup to retaliate against Busch.

About the 2003 Ford 200: Ted Musgrave, Travis Kvapil, & Brendan Gaughan all entered extra trucks. So that argument is nulled. In addition, contrary to popular belief, Tyler Walker & Marty Houston both slid in oil on the track, which resulted in Tyler hitting the wall & Marty spinning out the following lap.
