Yay love this video and your ZC Pro callout. I went a bit bigger in the end - an EPYC9115 based rack mount to partner with the ZC as a ZFS snapshot store :-)

Got a Lockerstor 4 Gen2 about a month ago. First NAS I've ever owned. You can do so much with it. I use it as a backup location, User storage location (with VPN to access over WAN), Plex server, Media storage, AI powered object recognition server, etc... I'm still learning so much and with all this running it's still go plenty of power in reserve.

I picked one up but seeing even glitchy text errors off the bat was not ideal and felt it wasn’t going to be a long term solution. I did enjoy the layout and was sad to see these glitches but yeah those small errors weren’t ideal so I returned it and continued using Unraid.
@bailey12516 күн бұрын
@@Cary_mac I haven't noticed any errors myself, whereabouts did you see them? I'll have a look and see if I see them. Although mine is on the latest OS version so these may have been fixed already.

I know everyone is raving about the Jonsbo N5, but I was wondering if you've seen the JMCD 12S4 or 9s2. What are your thoughts there for a NAS case, since they both have actual drive sleds.

I looked at a few options and ran a few test setups utilising unraid and truenas. Due to wanting a nas mainly for plex and already in the ubiquiti ecosystem I ended up with the unas. So far really happy with it. Just need to build a new rack mounted server using consumer components.

I'd argue the Fractal Define 7 is a better DIY case; it doesn't have hot-swappable bays, but has excellent cooling, build quality, noise dampening etc. :)
@AndyJMacLeod18 күн бұрын
The number of bays is a key consideration too…
@DailyTechNews.mp418 күн бұрын
@AndyJMacLeod I think the non XL version can do about 14 drives with all the mounting spots (getting their extra drive bay + attachments... you gotta buy attachents) Nice to have multiple choices though, when I built my NAS a few months ago, only the Define supported this many drives as most cases only go up to 8 bays.
@doctorno391216 күн бұрын
I have had the xl for a year now and it's been a great case. Crammed it with 7 wd red 10 tbs around a 4090 strix stuffed in the the middle. Been a great plex, storage server along with couch gaming setup. Now in the process of racking all my stuff up. Got the unas still in box to setup.

It would be a great help if you could do some reliability testing especially longevity. Some people report that their NAS just packs-up after a couple of years of use or less.

Analysis Paralysis. That's where I am. I've watched a bunch of your videos trying to figure out what I need/want. I've even gone out and bought a 10G switch (which ends up only having SFP+ ports which I didn't realize - and I have no use for unless I go buy some steekin' adapter). I've gone back and forth about Thunderbolt (I have T4 on my Mac M1 Studio). I still don't understand (even after watching your video about why USB 4 is such a big deal), how T4 could help me over 10G. I don't get why I'd want both. But the biggest thing that confounds me at this point is that I don't get why having a 10G network (or T4 for that matter) does ANYTHING for me, because my fastest hard drive can only read a whopping 268 MBs per second. Isn't THAT my limiting factor on the "speed" of getting data to/from my NAS? It's only me - I don't have a team or group. I do have some faster non-NAS storage on SSDs and have ordered a couple OWC USB4 enclosures for them (which I really am hoping will be better than the

Although not as bleeding edge as some of the ones you picked, I'd expected the 2 and 4 disk Aoostar to get an honorable mention. They're another *young upstart*, that's been knocking designs out of the park especially on price/performance. And like Minisforum they've been battling to keep many in stock.

The coming Jonsbo N5 build video. Please include power consumption (i.e. cost of 24/7 running) Thank you.
@nascompares18 күн бұрын
Should be live this Friday. However, as I state in the video, it's more about the case build, than the CPU/Mobo choice - as there are too many types of build users might use. Hereford power consumption would be massively relative. Also, I bet most users do not fully populated this system - it's built for scalability (not just HDD scaling either). Sorry if the video lacks what you need, but I hope you enjoybit

Tbh they were so close to making the cut - but they were already promoting their system in late 2023 build up stuff + already had the DX series in china before hand.
