You're doing a great job explaining all this. I already feel comfortable using DSM. I wonder what I would have done if you had not uploaded these videos this week. It's all very appreciated.

Feel free to email me on Robbie (at) NASCompares if you want access to the full videos in advance (they are being gradually published, but I'll send you the full list of accessible links if you need them ASAP). Cheers for enjoying the vids

@@nascompares Wow, that is very nice of you to offer. I've already got my hands full tinkering with the basics you've taught. I'm having lots of fun! I might take you up on your offer if needed. Will definitely be buying you a Ko-fi as a small thanks for what you do. Cheers!

great info- so many options to understand.

When I bought my DS220+ I was so confused because so many of the steps used lingo and jargon which meant nothing to me, and it took me months to understand how it works. I’d even say that now a few years later I would not be confident that it is set up efficiently and securely, but it does what I need so I’m not touching it any further 😅

Great video! I noticed that I do not have the Map Drive option that you talk about at 13:34. Is it because I am on a Mac? Everything else looks correct so in terms of following your steps, but I am not sure why I am not seeing the Map Drive option in Synology Assistant.

Your videos are great, very informative and easy to follow. Your videos helped me to decide on which NAS to buy and are helping me to understand its features. I opted for a Synology DS723+ and want to set it up to replace OneDrive because they dont offer enough space. Which video should i watch to help setup my NAS to automatically sync with my PC drive and to access from my Laptop and Smart Phone? TIA

Brilliant video! I'm about to buy a NAS (QNAP, Synology or DIY) though Synology appears to be a more restricted ecosystem with regard to compatible hard drives. Btw, I'm still puzzled as to why you don't have at least 500k subscribers 🤔. Thank you for the enlightening videos, please do continue!

Sort answer...because this is the niche'd subject in IT! I'm the nerd that the nerds call a nerd. Longer answer... I still make very long form content and don't spend enough time making snappier content. Plus, I'm not high end video editor and that shows in my production! Glad this helps though man

Someone help please. I have added users and for some strange reason, my Nas is not sending the users the Login access email and the link. Its soooo frustrating because Synology is not responding.

Great video as usual. I've been procrastinating on getting a NAS! I definitely like the Synology DS423+ for the 4k transcoding. But UGreen has my attention as well. Waiting to see if the software is going to be worth the switch. What's your advice?

How would you feel about using a separate storage pool (either on the same NAS or on a separate one) as a backup? I'm thinking of either the Synology 923+ or 1522+. I could use a DX517 for another 5 bays potentially giving me plenty of room for a backup only pool. Thoughts???
@DavidM20028 ай бұрын
I do that on my desktop PC, sort of. I installed a second SSD and backup to that. However, my feeling on a backups is that it should be to a separate device in the event that the daily use device has a major hardware problem or is stolen. I have a second ( and a third ) NAS which sits in my detached garage which is where one of my backups goes. If you do it to the same NAS, I would just use Snapshots. Plus a cloud device for the really important stuff.

@@DavidM2002 what about using the 923+ as the primary and the DX517 expansion as the backup?
@DavidM20028 ай бұрын
@@michaelwilkes758 I've never used an expansion box but, it is, for all intents and purposes, part of the NAS. That would not be my first choice as a backup.

Thx so much for your efforts to tell us how to use it. I really mean it though while creating Users with permissions the system logged me out and i cannot enter anymore with the first user and Password (i assume main USER Admin?) Anyway, great explanations!

@@nascompares I started with my first Nas which was a WD 1TB Mycloud which lasted 9 years. I then watched loads of your vlogs about different Nas makes and decided to purchase a Qnap TS-251B. Which i am still using now populated with 2x 4TB drives. Had fibre broadband installed this week with a new Asus router and even though it is directly plugged into the router. It has disappeared. Cannot be found at all. It had a fixed IP and maybe that is the problem. I think i had a message that the host cannot be found and not on the same subnet. So at the moment no NAS at all. HELP.
