This video should be recommended by Qnap to anyone buying a NAS for the first time. Really appreciated. Thanks a lot.

So glad you made an update. I was just trying to setup the same device watching the old videos. Most of the old video content was going over my head.
@DavidM20026 ай бұрын
24:00 I found that, on the initial setup, if I select static IP address, things can get ugly when the router ignores that address and the two won't communicate leaving you out in the cold. So, I set this at DHCP to get started. Once everything is installed and settles down, then I find the IP address that the router assigns and set that as a reservation in the router. Or, change the IP address in the router to what you want, but setting it in the NAS almost universally is problematic for me.

Thanks for the new videos of the QNAP series! One point you didn't address that I personally think is important is the topic of QNAP (system) apps and on which volume they are stored. When I set up my QNAP NAS, I initially created a "Multimedia" volume within Storage Pool 1. Since then, QNAP installs many apps on it by default. It is obviously not possible to subsequently move all apps to other volumes. I would prefer to have a separate SSD RAID 1 for system and apps only. What is the best way to do this (assuming you have enough available bays for this)? Just installing two SSDs for the initial setup, create a storage pool with these, set up a RAID 1 and create a volume e.g. "System" on it?
@tazukia7434 ай бұрын
Yes when initially setting it up, create your first volume out of your NVME or SSD's without any of the HDD's inserted. Complete the entire process, updating, installing initial QNAP apps and the like. Then insert your HDD's and create your storage volumes.
@Asahi-p9f4 ай бұрын
@@tazukia743 Thank you very much. I appreciate your response to my comment and question. Would it be possible to remove my current HDDs full of data, and leave only the SSD/NVME for a complete reinstall of the system? When this is done, put the HDDs back in? I guess the home folders will then be on the SSD, right?
@tazukia7434 ай бұрын
@@Asahi-p9f My understanding is that yes this can be done. I personally have not done this. I would make sure that everythiing was updated while all the drives where in. Then proceed by removing the HDD and resetting it all up with just the NVME's. I would also go ahead and install a couple apps to make sure that they are getting installed correctly. From there you can place the HDD's in the unit, making sure to put them back in the same slot that they were in originally. This would be just like if you got a new QNAP because the old one died.

Alternatively, the kofi and patreon nascompares pages have all the links too posted over the last 2 months and costs less too. Hope you are finding these guides helpful bud and thanks for watching.

I've had to do a raid1 configuration on my NAS which is TV 682. It has selected the second disc as the one I want to put files on. I wanted it to use my new drive in the first bay. Is there anyway of telling it or swapping them in software or do I have to start again. I'm not sure if I've done the volume correctly for this either

Anyone know if QuTS Hero OS is available for the TS-464 yet? It says on multiple product pages on the QNAP website it does however, it's not listed under the downloads area of the website and couldn't find it anywhere. Super confusing as they are marketing the device is compatible with it yet you cant install it.

I thought just creating the volume would do it, but apparently there is more to it. Is there a guide or instructions somewhere which explains how to get the volume on my PC?

Sorry im a total noob with NAS. So if i get this NAS i cannot use different size hard drive? Are there any with similar capabilities as this nas that allow for different size NAS or is this the case for all NAS.
@IzanaKunigiriКүн бұрын
The size thing is exclusive to RAID setups (Redundant Array if Independant Disks). because it has to configure drives at the same size, it'll use the lowest common capacity. if you don't set it up in RAID and just set it up as a JBOD-style (Just A Bunch of Disks) thrn mismatched capacities SHOULD be fine. I haven't set these units up yet so It's also dependant on the device itself.
@davido9450Күн бұрын
@IzanaKunigiri if you just use it as jbod can't you just copy to another disk manually for redundancy?
@IzanaKunigiriКүн бұрын
@@davido9450 Manually copy? Sure I don't see any reason why not. Otherwise you're trying to do The functional exivalent of a Raid 1 or raid 10 with mismatched disks if you were to automate it. Besides, If you use all the same capacity drives, You can go for Raid 5 or 6 allowing you a chance to replace a failed disk or two before data loss (1 disk for Raid 5, 2 for raid 6) giving more of a safety net then trying to keep on top of it manually.

@@nascomparesThis excuse doesn't hold weight unfortunately. Other creators post content and schedule content just fine without some sort of divine punishment by the algorithm.
