For those of you who don’t know, there’s a rule in the NHL where if you pull the goalie in OT and give up the empty netter you forfeit the 1 point you earned for going into OT. Crazy to think they were a simple turnover away from getting no points at all. Good call and it worked out. Good job Minnesota!

For those who think this is going to establish a trend, it won't. The only reason they did this was because the Wild are directly competing against Nashville for a wildcard spot. The Wild needed to insure that they didn't lose anymore ground to this direct competitor.

They also really have nothing to lose trying an aggressive strategy like that. They either lose by 1 or lose by 2 if they lose at all

@@jeremeymcdudethey had plenty to lose. If you pull your goalie in overtime when it's not a delayed penalty and get scored on, you forfeit the overtime loss point. Hynes would've been kicking himself hard had this backfired.

@@sparkyshore3543 well I spelled it out in my comment if you read further. You lose 1 point or you lose 2 points to Nashville. You have to win the game and even then the Wild are still far enough back that Nashville probably still makes it anyways.

I was mad at first after seeing the score but not as mad once I realized that the Wild pulled the goalie because that’s some guts right there. Preds still got a point and extended their point streak to 12 games.

NHL needs to change the OT rules because this 3-3 circling around and doing nothing crap is the stuff of nightmares. Win-win move by Hynes and one of the most exciting OT moments in the last decade. Love to see it.

Worst thing you can do is weigh a sport down with rules. That’s why I don’t watch basketball at any level. The foul calling in that “sport” are as subjective as Russian figure skating.

NHL is 2pts for a win, 1pt for an OT loss, if Preds scored after MAF went to the bench then the Wild forfeit the 1pt for the OT Loss so they could have ended with Zero instead of 1. But if they didn't get the OT win against the Preds it basically ends their season anyway. Wild have no room to give up points to anyone ahead of them in the wildcard race.
