Looking good Jonathan! Take a look at using the 96-97 explorer drivetrain. I’m currently redoing a 74 with this set up! Buy the whole explorer for 1000-2000 bucks and if it has less 100k miles run it. Good luck! Cary, So Cal.

Looking forward to watching this build! Are you going to add any double shock mounts before powder coating? I welded up over 100 unnecessary holes on my 72 bronco frame before powder coating. When Ford built the frame rails they made one rail that they used on both sides. So you end up with steering box mount, fuel and brake line holes etc. on the passenger side rail.

I scored a complete 72 bronco 2 years ago for $1400! Not running, rusty floor boards but pretty solid. Now I'm half way thru a complete ground up restoration and in deep already at 40K! Doing all my own work but also buying high end parts. I figure 2 more years to complete. I look forward to watching this build too.

I am just finishing up final assembly/restoration on my 1971 Bronco. I heard you say you wanted to send your frame out for powder coat right away. May I suggest, before you do that you should plan out your build on paper and figure out if there are any frame modifications you want to make. For example, James Duff long radius arms, welding, any frame repairs, etc. Most frames that I have seen require some repairs or modifications, so I would definitely consider any mods prior to powder coating. I completely built my Bronco from the ground up, completing all fabrication, then I tore it down for powder coat and paint. If your goal or desire is to profit on your build, I would definitely take your time. My project has taken me 4+ years and I have a shop with a lift. I don’t know where you want to take your project. I started out wanting a clean driver, but progressed into a show quality build! Let me know if you want any photos to refer to.
