Watching Jay drive this reminds me so much of a friend of mine. He's 82, been a mechanic his whole life, and built a 30's era Ford roadster from parts. It has a Ford flathead, 3 on the floor, no top and no mufflers. He took me for a wild ride with spinning tires, roaring pipes, and no speedometer. Watching his windblown white hair and youthful enthusiasm, I said, "I bet this car makes you feel twenty again". He looked at me, grinned, and said..."sixteen". Thanks Jay.

Restomods too often deviate too far from the original design, feel, and purpose, destroying classic rare vehicles, when they should just be properly restored in a quality way using quality oem parts when possible. This vehicle is great because it’s still Ford, by Ford, and classy, keeping its heritage look. This vehicle will appreciate, whereas most restomods massively depreciate the value of the vehicle. There’s a reason stock unmodified classic cars are becoming so valuable... Their character and feel have not been destroyed. That original patina is nostalgic, and real.
@TheBabyDerp4 жыл бұрын
@@user-tb5ns7hc5i I understand why they are valuable, but I am a car enthusiast. I like driving my cars very regularly. Those super original cars and restorations belong in collections and museums.I love the musuems and collections, but it's not something I'd spend my money on unless I was rich. . I think that for people who drive their cars, restomods are infinitely better. I am a broke college student and I daily my classic (along with a motorcycle). Restomods allow for modernizing and upgrading while retaining the soul of a classic. I am not saying I hate restorations, but for a vehicle that is gonna be driven regularly, restomods are better. "but this is an OEM factory built masterpiece". It really isn't OEM factory built in my opinion. The drive train is over a half a century younger. Sure it happens to also be Ford, but in this case they are so wildly apart in generation I wouldn't call this OEM at all. I mean yes, it's OEM by definition but we're talking 1968 Ford vs 2020 Ford. Basically 2 different companies ran by completely different people and completely different engineers but happen to share history. This Bronco could be powered by a Hellcat, and it would be just as cool.

@C L I must agree. Smaller towns always seem to have better quality people. My theory is: 1) Reputation - If you do someone wrong, you will more than likely run into them, have mutual friends or family ties. 2) More focus on family and community, so longer term planning and compassion. 3) People remain human, not numbers. Less competitive for status and money, so less cut throat towards other people.

I ended up going that route when restoring my Mercedes 300TD wagon I use for a daily, it's a mix of mostly black and brushed aluminum panels/trim mixed with the faux leather similar to how the newer Mercedes with the saddle brown/black combo is done. The wagon is Turbo OM606 + 603 mechanical pump swapped but it's tuned to be as good a balance of performance I could get while minimizing all smoke short of a little when slamming the throttle. Redone suspension gives it a smooth ride to go with the comfy interior and solid/simple powertrain that gets really good fuel economy.

My dad owned a 75 bronco when he lived in Big Bear CA back in the early 80s. I loved that truck. So much fun to drive with the top off. I'm personally waiting for the day when Jay decides he has to many cars, and auctions them at Mecum as the 'Jay Leno Collection' I will be there with a briefcases stuffed with cash. I have a dream of owning a few of his Bugattis. I love the type 37 and 40.

Sold mine in 1973 (gas "shortages") Two guys showed up to buy it. Was asking $2400 and the first guy (a Doctor) bought it "on the spot," then sold it to the second guy (a lawyer) for $3000. lol

I owned a 65 and a 71. The 71 was my first vehicle I owned. Had factory 302, we swapped out for a 351. Should of never sold it, guy who bought it took it and destroyed it in rock quarry. The 65 was years later, was a piece of junk I bought for $300. Had to rebuild the original 265 and it run like a top. I sold it to wife's nephew, he put new body on it, etc. These guys done exactly what I always wanted to do making a true sleeper truck. Outstanding job Jay and everyone involved in this project.

I had 3 classic Broncos in the early 80s. Managed to get a buddy hooked on them too and when he went to college he bought a project Bronco and had a racing garage build him a 351m to drop in his Bronco. He brought it over to my house and I took it for a drive. Wow! 3 on the tree and it scratched rubber on every shift. Just a beast of a truck. He ended up selling it to a teenager and the kid rolled it less than a week later. You had to really know how to drive them or you would be in a nasty crash.
