I so Love this channel. It is like being in a Time Machine. I always wonder how it would be to go back into time without all the technology, including medical technology. But what I noticed even more than anything, is how everything around us change but humans typically stay the same. I love pausing and getting a close up on the peoples and children’s faces, and they are so instantly remarkably the same as people of today. My imagination just stretches when watching these films, I wish there were more 1800 films or older. I could spend hours watching and intersecting these places and people in these films. Then to think, that all these lives are gone except for most of the things they created, which were passed on to the next generation. Amazing!

What a grandiose city! Belgium benefitted greatly from the guided age. I grew up there and remember feeling the grandeur all around me in the 60s and 70s. It was a wealthy city. I don't know what it's like today because I haven't been back since the eighties. I think a visit is due.

It's still a great city to visit, but I would recommend checking out the other cities as well. The Brussels speculators and the building boom in the 60s hasn't kept everything in its original Belle Epoque state, but many neighbourhoods still are like you see in this video.

Nass, Great job with this video. Brussels is the capital of Belgium for those who do not know. I love early 1900's scenes because you have horse and buggies, streetcars, & motor cars sharing the road at the same time! Wow! Beautiful scenes all the way around. Brussels more than hundred years ago looked way richer and civilized than it is today. That's why they called it the "Belle Epoque". There is a small chance, but not impossible, that my grandmother appeared in this movie, when young lady, she went to Brussels to help in a bakery in those years.

3:15 this early Noordstation/Gare du Nord/North Station, a terminus, was demolished when the North - South railway connection was constructed. It was replaced by something ugly.

In case you didn't notice there are electric trams in this video. Many buildings you see are 19th century which is when sewage systems were built in large cities like this.

The enormous monolithic building with the giant doors at 2.10 is a bit scary looking as it looms into view. At 5 mins in the Brandenburg Gate looking arch looks like something out of a World's Fair. All very oversized for the people shown in the video. Fascinating. 😳😲🥴

2:10 that's the justice palace which at the time was the largest building (they say) of te world. It's still hugely impressive although it's not in the best state and always in scaffolding. The 'Brandenburg gate' is actually the Cinquantenaire which is the monument to Belgium's 50 years existence. It apparently was part of exhibitions at the time.

Almost the same looking electric street trams I rode in Odessa, Ukraine in 1970s. No wonder. It was a Belgian company that was responsible for bringing them to the city in 2010, practically at the same time this film was made.

There's an odd aspect about the electric trolleys at the beginning of the video. I see the power poles sticking up from the trolleys, but I don't see any overhead electrical lines or poles on the street sides that would suspend the electric lines. I assume the electric lines are washed out in the film by the sky.

No, power was taken from underground conduit : look at the left rail, the gap is wider than on the right. This was imposed by the City authorities, for aesthetic reasons.

Quite a number of those buildings are still there but people and culture are completely different. The amount of Graffiti, Muslims, Africans, and the way people dress in current Brussels are hideous. I am not intending to spread hatred or racism, but if you see yourself the present Brussels, I am sure that you understand what I am saying. It is not that architectures which makes the city beautiful, but its people and culture.
