Beach combing in Nassau? Really? Yes, and Yes! What a surprising place for beach combing! ! I am blown away what I found there in March. At first, I didn't have many expectations for this trip. There weren't many shelling videos on youtube for sure. Also I have been through Nassau many times in the past to get to Eleuthera, Andros, and Abaco Island, however it was never my final destination. Previously I was always on the east side of the island, which is too many people and too few shells.
After we booked our tickets to the Nassau we found out that there is a travel advisory in Nassau, due to a very high number of murders. We tried to change our plane tickets but we couldn't make it happen so we reluctantly went. After spending some time beach combing in Nassau I couldn't not believe what I was able to find in the water and on the beach. Also most of the time we were the only ones on the beach! I was so amazed by the beauty of the giant sized king helmet shells(which were as big as a football helmet) and there were so many of them. While making my videos I apparently got my phone wet, and it would not charge for a couple of days. I apologize if it looks a bit different at the end of the video because that part of video I shot when I got home including that one beautiful King Helmet!
I was surprised to see that on the west side of the island the beauty was equal to the family islands. However there is litter everywhere. The natural beauty would be so much greater without the trash. While shelling I did pickup quite a bit of trash from the beach. Thanks to SWF Beach Life who was a good role model for removing trash in her videos.
I can't express enough how much I enjoyed shelling in Nassau Bahamas. There is no doubt that I will be back in Nassau!

Where on Nassau did you find these awesome shells? I will be in Nassau in a couple days!

Mainly on the south west side of the island, there are some good beaches. There is also a beach called Jaw's Beach on the west side, it can be somewhat crowded but most of the time it's not bad..try on low tide. Also we found some good stuff on Cable Beach, on the north side of the island. Both beaches are very beautiful and I got some really awesome shells. I have been a sheller for a while but Nassau really surprised me so much in a good way! Congrats, I envy you going there. Good luck and have a great time in Nassau!

Did you go with a tour or just you and your husband? Did you feel safe?
@seashoreadventure

I went there with my hubby. We usually manage trips for ourselves. We prefer quiet areas, with more nature than people and we enjoy having the beach to ourselves. We rented a small unit on the south west side of the island. Yes, most of the time I felt safe. the travel advisory in Nassau is basically gang on gang violence and seems to be mostly happening on the east side of the island. So we stayed out of those areas. Most of our grocery shopping was done in the central part of the island where there are a lot of stores. However it does get a bit crazy at night in that area. If you don't feel comfortable going to Nassau, you would feel safe visiting the family islands like Eleuthera, Andros and Abaco. They are all so beautiful, there are very little traffic and the people are the nicest you'll ever meet!! Enjoy the Bahamas!

Can you keep the empty shells? Dead Sea biscuits?
@seashoreadventure
@seashoreadventure Ай бұрын
Based on what I have read, yes you can keep the clean empty shells and dead sea biscuits, the tests. Coming back home, they opened my luggage at The Bahamas TSA and had to see my Helmet shell but they were good with it.

Is it legal to take shells home from here? If so, someone please explain to me why the customs agent refused to let me take the shells I’d collected and bought with me back onto the cruise ship I was on a few years ago? Also, a woman at the little market I bought a giant conch shell at lied to my face about it being allowed on the ship…I paid a lot of money for it to get thrown back into the ocean!

it is entirely up to the cruise ship, as a general rule you can't bring anything from the beach including sand back onto the ship
