Wonderful to see such diverse sea creatures in another part of the Atlantic. I think the large shell at the end was a Horse Conch. They are the Florida state shell. They are orange when they are small then become more beige usually with black algae in the grooves. I found this video relaxing. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Where on Nassau did you find these awesome shells? I will be in Nassau in a couple days!
@seashoreadventure8 ай бұрын
Mainly on the south west side of the island, there are some good beaches. There is also a beach called Jaw's Beach on the west side, it can be somewhat crowded but most of the time it's not bad..try on low tide. Also we found some good stuff on Cable Beach, on the north side of the island. Both beaches are very beautiful and I got some really awesome shells. I have been a sheller for a while but Nassau really surprised me so much in a good way! Congrats, I envy you going there. Good luck and have a great time in Nassau!

Did you go with a tour or just you and your husband? Did you feel safe?
@seashoreadventure8 ай бұрын
I went there with my hubby. We usually manage trips for ourselves. We prefer quiet areas, with more nature than people and we enjoy having the beach to ourselves. We rented a small unit on the south west side of the island. Yes, most of the time I felt safe. the travel advisory in Nassau is basically gang on gang violence and seems to be mostly happening on the east side of the island. So we stayed out of those areas. Most of our grocery shopping was done in the central part of the island where there are a lot of stores. However it does get a bit crazy at night in that area. If you don't feel comfortable going to Nassau, you would feel safe visiting the family islands like Eleuthera, Andros and Abaco. They are all so beautiful, there are very little traffic and the people are the nicest you'll ever meet!! Enjoy the Bahamas!

Can you keep the empty shells? Dead Sea biscuits?
@seashoreadventure8 ай бұрын
Based on what I have read, yes you can keep the clean empty shells and dead sea biscuits, the tests. Coming back home, they opened my luggage at The Bahamas TSA and had to see my Helmet shell but they were good with it.

Is it legal to take shells home from here? If so, someone please explain to me why the customs agent refused to let me take the shells I’d collected and bought with me back onto the cruise ship I was on a few years ago? Also, a woman at the little market I bought a giant conch shell at lied to my face about it being allowed on the ship…I paid a lot of money for it to get thrown back into the ocean!
@seashoreadventure8 ай бұрын
I am sorry you had some troubles bringing them home. I looked and could not find any laws against bringing dead /empty shells. Thanks for watching.

it is entirely up to the cruise ship, as a general rule you can't bring anything from the beach including sand back onto the ship
