So, I'm a local and i wanted to provide you some tips and insight. "Super Value", the food store that you went to, while it's a place locals shop, the one you went to is still a bit expensive because of the area that you were in. While there were some items that will have the same price in multiple locations throughout the island, the farther west you go, the higher the prices are. Secondly, from your receipt, you got 42 items for 166.60 (we don't accept pennies) which is really not that bad of a deal. You would have paid less if you didn't get things that are considered name brand, organic, cage raised, etc. i know you are use to what you are used to but importation is vital to stores (food normally comes in via distributors so they have their own prices that store owners pay. Once it gets to that store, they have to then add on their own cost to make sure they get a profit. So, things are a bit higher cause it's not a one step process for them. What you could always do (and i always tell people this when they post questions online) is check out the local supermarkets before you come and see if they have specials that you will like during your visit. Super Value posts their weekly deals every Thursday in Facebook so depending on the days you were there, you probably could have gotten a better deal with another brand but just don't know. Another store is Solomon's Super Center or Fresh Market (sale comes out Thursdays -you can sign up online for free and get email alerts of new deals) and, like I mentioned before, the farther west, the more expensive it is.

The tourist area was really smart and well maintained while rest of island is forgotten. Love that rum cake, looks like you enjoyed it too. What a unique experience with the pigs, so cute! Ah you found the bridge. very good. The Bahamas has a subsidized mortgage program. The Bahamas is no more expensive than the US if you search. You are supposed to go to a pork roast Eat tropical fruits and drinks. The government is supported by tariffs, so anything imported has this cost added on. You are supposed to buy the rum cake in a can. It is a old sailor thing. The rum preserves the cake. -- At one time the ships parked out at sea and little boats would take you in but they dredged the harbor If you eat what the Bahamas produces the price should go down. Fish, pork, chicken tropical fruits. -- The pigs are not wild the resort caretaker owns them. A side income -- Near down town the road goes along the coast. then at a point the road goes strangely in land and around a hotel. then back along the coast. What it goes around was the old British fort Joseph Kennedy bought the old fort, tore it down, and built his hotel where the fort was. In this hotel is a bar and it is where James Bond goes in the movies. There are a couple gift statues that different governments have gifted them. -- The Bahamas grows sugar someplace The rum is a sugar product. You are supposed to mix it with fruit juice and there are fruit drink recopies. -- Anyways I enjoyed the video... Good job...

The Bahamas are the gateway to the Caribbean. Many of these islands are beautiful and have beautiful beaches. Two to avoid are Cuba and Jamaica. The cruise ships go to them and I've been on many. If you ever deside to go on a cruise know that each line is different. They range from terrible to outstanding. A first cruise might be a 7 day eastern Caribbean cruise. The ships have gotten much too large and there are too many of them.

Glad you guys had such a good time in the beautiful balmy Bahamas. Very nice video! Swimming with the pigs was unexpected, so funny! Sorry to hear your friend had sunstroke. One always has to be careful when in a new environment. (When I lived in Arizona, I could not believe how many tourists went hiking there without taking enough water-and they had a heat stroke.) If you haven’t already been told, be aware that you are not pronouncing the word Bahamas correctly. Although it has the word ham in it, it’s actually pronounced Ba-haah-mas. (Aah is what the doctor asks you to say when you open your mouth.)

I took a cruise to the Bahamas in 1996 or 1997. Expensive at the local resteraunts and groceries. Cruises can be had for about a guess of $350 to $400 per person for an interior room ( usually 2 people per room) after you pay your port fees.( looking at today's prices of about $200 to $250 without port fees) They include food, room, & some free entertainment for that price. The you will need to for you round trip airplane tickets to Miami or Port Canaveral. I was wondering if you should have booked a cruise that had a two day lay over in Nassau rather than an Air BnB. Bahamas are beyond the price that a middle class American would want to live at ;unless, you want to live like the locals. This was a once in a life time trip so try Mexico for your next visa run.

Loved the video, one of the best on nassau. The only thing is the comments about garbage all over the streets in the local area which is not true, I live here. Secondly most bahamians live middle class lives, travel 2 to 3 times a year and even the poor ones dint know what real poverty is. I really wish you actually showed where average bahamians live and not just the poor 10%. Nassau is pretty clean even in the local areas, which again are mostly middle class suburban. It is expensive as it's an island with a high standard of living but we don't pay income tax, average salary is around 40k. You skipped all the nice areas where bahamians lived and showed the ghetto😂. LIterally cable beach where u went to the beach is a beautiful residential area populated by mostly bahamians. It bothers ne because bahamas us ine of the few majority black countries that beats the stereotype of poor black country and you decides not to highlight thst but found some way to reinforce the stereotype. Bahamas us literally the third richest independent country in the America's after US and Canada. Oil rich Guyana will overtake it soon tho.

I don't think she had an agenda in what she filmed. She had specific beaches and grocery stores she was traveling to, and that determined what neighborhoods she saw.
@zidane01966 ай бұрын
@markg.1159 I don't think she had an agenda either and it was generally a good video. Just wish so many of them would stop doing that. It's false and misleading. Bahamians in general are not poor by any international measure. Legit one of the most comfortable places to live on the planet despite the high cost of living. I just think she should have done a little but more research put 1+1 together and realise she must be missing something, "this area don't look like 44k gdp per capita", just saying.
@1ouncebird6 ай бұрын
I don't think Dari made a decision to show only the run down areas. It was pretty clear to me that Dari and Masha were walking for most of their time there so it's not like they could easily cover a lot of the island to get to the areas you are talking about. Dari is a straight shooter as we sometimes say in the US. She shares what she sees and she doesn't hold back whether she is in the Bahamas, New York or anywhere. Also your island looks wonderful. 🙂

Thank you, Dari for another informative vlog. I hope one day you can explore the beaches of my native Philippines, especially in Palawan province, which still boasts many (yet unspoiled) pristine beaches. Imported products tend to be expensive as seen in The Bahamas and in Hawaii, where neither place manufactures many of the daily use goods locally. While independent since 1973, The Bahamas still has very close ties with the United Kingdom as it is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and recognizes King Charles III as its titular monarch. Can I just say, you have an unusual way of eating papaya. 😁 We usually serve it quartered or halved horizontally (if it’s a small one). Also to regards to coconut, there’s nothing better in the world to have than chilled fresh coconut water served in its shell.

Just be careful they like to throw people in the water off the pier at that bar. Not me. It's was someone's birthday. Awesome idea renting an air BNB. You stayed in a mansion while I was on a boat. It's cheap to go to Nassau if you live in Charleston SC. It's like an eight hour sailboat ride away. Omg you are so lucky on the video. I love that cake. See you SHOULD have went snorkeling! If your not used to sun with a heavy base tan to your skin you need LOTS of sunscreen or you will fry with that sky. I guess it's not summer now in the video, but the sun is almost an enemy in places like that. Michael Jackson used to own Atlantis over there. Nevermind you did go snorkeling! That was my favorite experience while down there. I swam with stingrays. That is the cutest pig on earth. It looks so awesome! Yet it's not summer lol jk it is really bright and hot. It's so funny I wrote stuff here as I watched and I see you covered it later in the video! Your awesome dari. This makes me trust your travel experiences alot more.
