Your video really hit home. My mom has struggled most of my life and after working 10 years straight out of high school and finding decent jobs it still wasn't what I wanted. I depend on people and I hate that. I finally made a choice to find a real career and choose dental hygiene. I'm at the end of my first semester of DH and I'm doing okay so far but I feel like I'm starting falling behind. I really can't wait till the day I start my career and I can depend on myself and not need anyone else. Your video has inspired me and has given me a boost of energy to get through this. Laura Mendoza Same here, I’ve been a DA and moved up to RDA thinking it’ll make a difference. It didn’t at all, I always knew that I’d wanna be a Hygienist but never really did anything about it. Until one day I cried my eyes out realizing that I was not happy being the “assistant” and now I’m in school taking prerequisites!!! This one really hit home for me because I’m graduating in May, found I out passed my national boards in March, I almost teared up with you at the end because I can relate to you so much when you started talking about Haiti and wanting to show your family what you accomplished. kelly13 Most Jamaicans aren't conscious about oral health so I see where I can make a difference in that regard. I personally love my career, the office I work in, my salary, etc. I work 6 days a week. However a lot of hygienists in Jamaica do not have a great work environment. Most are over worked and underpaid. And a lot are unemployed as well so they don't get to practice at all.

I became really emotional at the end of your video too, I'm a new immigrant from Taiwan and thinking to change a career that can make a living in the states. My parents are working hard too, I hope that I can later make enough for them to retire, so I'm not gonna waste my time in a filed that I can not get benefits in the end. In the first, I was thinking about being an occupational therapist, but then I saw a lot of people are saying that the program is just so rigorous and extremely loading of reading, writing and making presentations. I think I could make through it if I studied in my native language, but since it is even hard for native speakers who I don't think just goes to schools for lunch, I lost confidence to go through it. Then I put it as the second one in my future career list and found like the dental hygiene domain and other therapy domain. Did some research and found out that again it is really hard for even the native speakers... I'm so worried about the career changing now...

Thank you so much for sharing! I graduate from Hygiene school in 4 weeks, and I haven’t found many videos/resources since starting school. It’s hard knowing what to expect out of school, many hygienist are kind of vague.

I’m so proud of you and your accomplishments! This is my second yr applying to programs and I’m just now starting to hear back from them. I didn’t get into my first choice which is still hard for me to accept but I am alternate #1 at my second choice. I love your videos! I’m a registered veterinary technician and do dental cleaning on dogs and cats and I love veterinary dentistry it’s so satisfying but dentistry is a small part of my work and I’m thinking of going back to school for dental hygienist. I do scaling, polishing And probing and full mouth Xrays on my patients as well. I like that dental hygienist is the same role of what I do a couple days a week just on animals. I scared about making the switch because I have a passion for veterinary medicine which lead to discover a passion for dentistry but there’s not a huge demand for dentistry on the veterinary side it’s like not everyone is going to invest in the pets oral health but they’ll invest in theirs. I’m nervous I’ll regret leaving vet medicine if I switch

I see 14 patients a day. I have a hygiene assistant. I have 2 rooms I work out of. I would be miserable seeing 8 patients per day (or less with srp) I like the fast pace of assisted hygiene.

I love your channel soo much!! I am going to be applying to the Dental Hygiene program closest to me soon. I only have 4 prerequisites left. I already know that for my first job interview/job I'm gonna be a HUGE nervous wreck. I am always a nervous wreck for interviews and anything new! But I have issues with having self confidence too and I think that's one of my setbacks, so hopefully I can really get out of that :/ Also, I got emotional when you got emotional. You can tell you have such a good heart! So happy for you to feel that successful feeling.

Update: Graduated in May 2019, license came in two days ago, and tomorrow is my first working interview 😭 I feel like I’m more nervous than my clinical boards lol WISH ME LUCK!
