Alternative title: "Valeri Liukin's being proud of his daughter for 30 min straight"
@gymnastica66964 жыл бұрын
Valeri and Nastia were very respectful by not celebrating Nastia's success while Shawn while was competing on floor. Instead, they watched and cheered Shawn on. Good sportsmanship. I was a fan of Valeri back in the 80's when the USSR teams were dominant in the sport. I would love to see Nastia comment on Valeri's routines from the Europeans 1987 or Olympics 1988. It would be also interesting to hear Valeri's view of events and what it was like training and competing for the Soviet Union.

Ok, so I’ve needed to get this off my chest for 8 years. I volunteered for the 2012 American Cup and flew there from NC. Apparently there was some confusion about the role I signed up for, and basically ended up behind the scenes the whole competition. I guess USAG felt bad about the mix up and offered for me to go to the media room to meet the gymnasts. So I was following this lady to the back media room and you were just there, looking regal and towering over me because you had super high heels on. I had a mini heart attack and summoned the courage to ask for your autograph. My stupid self wanted to sound respectful, so I didn’t know whether to call you Nastia or Ms. Liukin. I think it came out of my mouth as “Ms. LiukinNastia.” Anyway, you responded and were super nice and signed my program (which is still framed on my wall), but I have always beat myself up about making a complete fool of myself.

As a former gymnast and former member of the US Freestyle Ski Team, my coaches always instilled in me to practice as if it was a competition. This is practicing muscle memory. The quote I always said to myself before competing is “You don’t win by being the best, you win by making fewer mistakes than everyone else.” On any given day, anyone can win! Your mental toughness was second to none! Thank you for doing this video!!

I am blown away by this insight into your dads personality!! So so lovely to see him relaxed and sharing his thoughts! The gymnastics is obviously beyond this world and I have followed ye for years but this man doesn’t get enough credit! I genuinely didn’t realise he was so lovely! And huge props to him for protecting you all those years and being so supportive, this has made my day! I’m 30 and have always lived in Ireland, never did gymnastics and I’m a huge fan 😂 Love & light to ye both xxx

I remember being a level 5 and 6 gymnast during the Nastia Era. We competed at WOGA multiple times and her mom would hang out with our team during a rotation here and there. She was always sooooo nice and encouraging! She would just hang out and we would all crack jokes. It was so kind of her, especially to young gymnast new to competing.

Now, this was such a great video. I really enjoyed hearing your father talk as a coach. He should give feedback on other competition routines. Pick a gymnast and tell us what he thinks in a routine from a Coach point of view. The key points I took from this: 1. if you want to succeed at a high level, this is what it takes (hard work and effort). 2. Preparation begins very early. Then you can build on that great foundation. 3. If you put in the work physically, then you can be free to do the mental work of envisioning how you can accomplish the task and your goals. Next time, please for those of us who don’t know gymnastics so well, define the terms you’re referencing, I finally figured out what an Ono (????) was during the bar routine. 😂

This video was awesome! I've always wondered what was going thru both your heads during the competition. I'm an old guy lol, I'm a lil younger than Valarie, he's in my generation. I was 14 in 88 when he competed. As a young gymnast in that era, we American gymnasts were in total awe of the Soviet Union back then. The Soviet Union totally dominated gymnastics back then. Both men and women teams were so dominating back then. I would love to hear Valaries commentary on his routines in Seoul. Please 🙏... Love you guys 💕. The triple backs the Soviet team threw that year was insane. Just like the vid you show here of his high bar routine, I would love to hear is commentary of the whole competition. Thanks guys
