The greatest irony of the whole movie. He did all that to make his brother stronger. He marked him so that he could always recognize him and wouldn't kill him by accident. Such a weird twisted sibling love but it makes sense for the character. As much as people fear him and as ruthless as he can be, he has a soft spot for few things in the world that he's willing to die to protect.

Felt bad for both of them. Both of them tormented their whole lives, especially Rufus. This is fiction to be sure, but in real life, parents don't understand - or don't care - the power they have over their children - shaping their attitudes and behavior to come. Rufus looked so much at peace when he died. His face was almost serene. I think he was in agony his whole life.

I personally think Nat should not have killed Rufus. Because all these years Nat was giving Rufus what he wanted as revenge against their father, being an outlaw. Killing Rufus was more for Rufus’s gain, which is why he wanted to die by Nat’s hands. This would’ve been Nat’s decision to stop giving Rufus what he wanted. The better revenge would’ve been to have Rufus left with nothing and no one again.

Rufus was a sociopathic village chief who held people hostage with money, violence, and mindgames. He didnt give a fuck about "his vision of a better place" it was just him projecting his anger at being defined by his father's mistakes and not his own legacy. This whole Nat is the real villain thing is some anime "subvert the villain into an antihero because tragedy" bullshit. This isnt a story of heroes and villains, protagonists sure but no heroes here.

And what's amazing is that some of these people actually bought Rufus's load of bull. It's like they ignored his actions and bought into all his pretty words. No wonder we have the kind of politicians in charge that we have.

Now I wonder did Nat kill him to finally get his revenge or to relieve the suffering his newly discovered brother been carrying all these years?

This final confrontation was far more impactful and memorable than any final shootout they could have choreographed. My favorite part of this has to be the exchange between Nat and Mary. Mary: Is the Devil dead? Nat: ....... I don't know.

I honestly think that if the father was actually apologetic and regretted what he did, Rufus wouldn’t have killed the wife and turn nat into an outlaw. He definitely would have killed their father though. An apology cannot fix the trauma from a child watching his mother beaten mercilessly to one day have her end up being killed while he is abandoned left with nothing. Rufus killing his dad was something that was premeditated for many years. I don’t think rufus even knew that his dad moved on beforehand. The idea of turning his half brother into the person the father tried so hard to have him not be was maybe only a recent thought

If you didn't know Idris Elba can act this a prime example of how he can put on one hell of a performance! As for Majors, its a shame that whatever allegations hes involved in happened because hes very talented
