Bravo Nate, your rendition of this magnificent piece is superb...!!! Much more and something which cannot be expressed is the spiritual quality you gave the music. This was not just a technical interpretation but one full of meaning as Wagner perhaps envisioned it...!!! True performances of his music must transport and transform us. We are left somewhere between the heavens and earth...!!! You have accomplished this...!!! Thank you.... Rob

Couldn't have been stated any better than this, and is exactly the intent. To move us in ways few things can, and touch our very soul's in so doing !! That dreamy state of consciousness that only the musically inclined would understand 🎼 🎶💯

I am so glad to hear this! To know you have appreciated it year over year makes me so happy. I sometimes feel like I haven’t done much with my life, but to know I could be a spiritual conduit for just 15 minutes to a few people really makes me feel like I have at least a tiny bit of a legacy. This made my day and thank you for the appreciation!

Every time I play Liszt's transcription of the Solemn Procession from Parsifal, I regret that he did not also do one of the Prelude and Finale. Well, here it is, by a different transcriber---a lovely and convincing keyboard rendition of the sublime orchestral score. My perfect Easter devotional would require only Nate on this beautiful, clear instrument playing this music.

Amazed is what I am, I have been listening this transcription over and over for the last 4 months. I love Wagner music, but what I feel listening to your performance is indescriptible. I feel like capable of understanding three languages I do not know, this is because There are three melodies o chained melodies happening in this piece at the same time! Thank you very much Nate for this experience!

I rarely comment on here, but I have to congratulate you on this. *Parsifal* is my personal all-time favorite piece of music. This is just an amazingly emotional performance that really captures the spirit of the work as I believe Wagner intended it. And you are correct about the intreresting correspondence to Wagner's stage directions: "Allmähliche sanfte Erleuchtung des Grales. Zunehmende Dämmerung in der Tiefe bei wachsendem Lichtscheine aus der Höhe. ... Lichtstrahl: hellstes Erglühen des Grales. Aus der Kuppel schwebt eine weisse Taube herab und verweilt über Parsifals Haupte." I wish I could have seen the recent Met performance/broadcast as well. I emailed them and asked them if they plan to release it on DVD, and unfortunately they said no, there are no plans for that at this time. Thanks you so much for posting this.

I know your comment is already 7 years old, but if you still have this account and didn't know yet: You can find the whole rendition with Kaufmann and Pape if you search for "Parsifal Met 2013". It's split into three videos, one for each act, and has Chinese letters in the title

I will coming from Detroit to see"Parsifal" at the MET in little over two weeks, for the first time on stage in my life, and after 25+ years of loving its message, music and spell. I never imagined i would ever get to live that moment; i dreamed of it, but never truly thought it would happen. It is so close now. I was looking for something different to prepare myself for that life experience and that is how i ran into your performance. I am beyond words and that is just about all i can say. Thank you for posting this; thank you for the heartfelt performance which so profoundly shows your love and understanding of the great masterpiece.

Wow. There aren’t many good Wagner piano transcriptions out there, but this one is excellent. I agree with some of the other commenters that not only was the transcription wonderfully done, you brought a level of spirituality to the piece that heretofore was only possible with an orchestra. Piano players everywhere should rejoice for such a quality piece of Wagnerian music on their own instrument. I would like to add that it seems that all the transcriptions out there of Wagner’s music are just compressed orchestral compilations. This one, and your performance, showcased the strengths of the instrument without diminishing the orchestral grandness that one has come to expect with Parsifal. Loved the compilation of the redemption motifs together. Excellent job and thank you.

Thank you, Nate. Even though most of my family is Jewish, I still find that Wagner's music, along with that of Mahler--the Jewish composer who achieved fame as an interpreter of Wagner--, touch the soul to its very heart. To me, Wagner was the channel by which the music of G-d came to us. You might be interested in reading what the British composer Cyril Scott had to say about Wagner. Additionally, Wagner's relationships with Joseph Rubinstein and Hermann Levi are fascinating to ponder.

You know how to play such impressive music! Did you make a full recording of parsifal or why only these two parts?
@natachu44410 жыл бұрын
Hahaha ... there's no way I could ever learn a full transcription. Or maybe I could but I would have to work on it for like 15 years. I picked these two parts because they just go so well together. In the prelude, the rising redemption motif (do-mi-sol-la-la) gets immediately beheaded by the motif of the wound (ti-do-ti mi-fi-sol) ... and the prelude has many statements of faith but is full of the motifs for the spear, the wound, and agony. It ends hanging on an unresolved Eb7 chord, which is perfectly resolved back to Ab at the beginning of the end of the piece. Then, the redemption motif finally gets to rise to it's full heights, over and over, the pain is gone, all that is left is faith and redemption, and Wagner leaves us with 4 minutes of the most ethereal and life-affirming music he ever wrote. It just made a lot of sense to me to pair them like this!
