Stunning. Rhorer captures the very essence and spirituality of the entire work here in the Vorspiel in not a performance of the opera, but just an orchestral excerpt. The response from the Frankfurt forces is just remarkable. I can't help the tears in my eyes from this performance. Magnificent. Thank you for this gift.

@daphnewilson79663 жыл бұрын
It was the original "movie music" standby. Don't know your generation, but you would recognize a lot of Wagner in early soundies. Musicians nowadays call it "program music." No insult. Sometimes I think the truest heir is (Jewish?) Jerry Goldsmith. How ironic would that be? No one will ever truly know....

Exactly. The ebb and flow and points of emphasis that different conductors use impact the music as it exists on the sheet so much. The best ones aren’t afraid to vary tempo and really make the musicians embrace the emotional power that the music brings when they’re all bringing the same energy to it. One of the great compositions in all of history.

@@MagnusReichel I am many years past remembering my music tabs and vocabulary. As far as what I personally mean by ‘the God chord’, it is simply a combination of notes that produces instant chills and goosebumps. Specifically in this arrangement, the chord change at precisely 14:38 is what I’m referring to. I have a dream that someday, someone incredibly versed in music theory will gift me the joy of taking the music or parts of music I value most, identify the common threads, and find more things that fit my listening profile. My lord, what a service that would be.

I can't say much about the piece or its performance for I lack the experience with it. But I do have to say that I would probably have a slight issue with the conductor making more eye contact with his score than with his musicians. I don't care that he's young - I find he conducts well, maybe a bit too "academic" for my taste. But he is more often than not buried in the score. The result is still good, so I wonder what he could achieve would he communicate more with his eyes and not only his hands. I would like to know what the musicians have to say about him.
@josephanthony85856 жыл бұрын
The conductor's main role is in the rehearsal of the orchestra in preparation for the performance and that he sets the tempo. Everything else is just for show so he could dance naked on the podium for all I care; it is the music to which I give my attention and concentration, performed flawlessly by this orchestra.
@johanmauritzvannassau-sieg78784 жыл бұрын
Some details in the interpretation of the musicians to what you are saying are very linked. I say, some sections the musicians in the way that are playing, gives them the most pleasure, but anyway I like a lot the final sound of the piece.

I remember the anxiety of my parents, taking me to the Opera age 9: could the kid stand Wagner? Supposed to be so "heavy!" I was hooked in my gut from the first note. Thing is, it's all rock n roll. "Wild Horses" "Funeral for a Friend." Theme of Trek "Generations." It's all "program music" begging the Wagner orchestra to boom in the solar plexis and draw truth from our souls.
@goodmusicfanatic47153 жыл бұрын

Once again, arguments begin between listeners who should be excluded from beauty and spirituality, whose comments denigrate the high ideals of Wagner and trivialise the performance of these fine musicians and the conductor of the orchestra who is outstanding in his integrity to truth in Art.. The only valid comments to this performance should come from musicians of the highest standard or composers who are judged by their peers , not by the cynical reduction of all human endeavour to it's lowest common denominator as is the case with the clowns who write nonsense from a perspective of mean spirit.

The music can be interpreted as exploring good versus evil in our own hearts or good people versus evil people, however by defining the good as the interests of 'our tribe', 'our religion' or 'our nation' then those who belong to other tribes, religions, nations etc become the evil enemy so the music can then be about the struggle of 'us' versus 'them'.
