Just an FYI: if you turn the nail/hand upside down before you cure, the gel will gravitate to the center and sort of help with the building of the apex. Just turn the hand for a couple seconds and take a look at it to see how it looks, if your happy, pop it in the lamp and cure 😉BTW I love your vids and the way you explain everything step by step!

@@mkgang1658 idk if they'll answer but the layers vary depending on what length you're doing and the type of thickness you want personally. I suggest watching a few videos on using builder gel. It will give you a visual explanation

Just an fyi.. if you would have done another thin layer (not cured in light), called a slip layer, then did large floating bead, it would have floated even faster for you .. I just recently learned that trick !!

I have found that is using a slip layer doesn't seem to work with builder gels very well. It seems to make them lose their viscosity 🤷. Maybe it's just me, and I'm doing something wrong.

You can flash cure each finger for 5-10 seconds to prevent running and it will allow you to finish a whole hand and save time.

Yes tips must be filed .. I forgot on a couple of gel sets to file the tips and the gel lifted from the tips about 5 days after doing the full set!! Lol.. lesson learned!!! Beautiful nails as always !!!!

Here's a time-saving tip- use Light Elegance's "Tack" on the tips + cure (or try acetone), and you won't have to file the surface before applying gel.

Would love to watch you use hard gel with forms next time, instead of tips. Also, your technique looks good! One suggestion is to use a slip layer on the cured base coat.... a thin layer of your gel, don't cure, then just go in with a large dollop of the hard gel. Makes it so much easier.... the slip layer basically tells the hard gel where to go. I found it to be a game changer.Thanks for sharing!

Gel professional for 6 years your floating is great IMO but it would flow and move down easier if the base coat was still wet also known as the slip layer. Like an oiled metal slide at the playgrounds, do the base coat layer and without drying do your building layer but love your nails period anyhow but seems like the gels sticking to your base alot is all I felt like throwing a tip out incase you havent tried it

@krissi......I did a gel set on myself yesterday using this mia secret formagel. I peeped the natural nail, glued tips on, filed the tips and begun with the formagel but by today most of my nails were seperated or lifted in some areas of the tip area. The nail bed area wasn't lifted it separated. Only the tip area or free edge area. I removed all my set but don't know what happened. Could you please help me??

I'm so glad you've started doing gel. Your school was correct, gel won't stick to a shiny surface. The one downside to builder gel over acrylic is that not all builder gels are able to be soaked off and some of the ones that can be soaked off are not strong enough for nails this long.

The nail placement is what’s making the nail curve like that, as well as not having enough product at the tip in this case. When working on nails always look at your nail from all angles especially the side because that’s when u can see your mistakes the most. Anyways they came out beautiful!💗💗

Not curing the thin layer will help you...if you don’t cure the thin slip layer then when you apply your big bead the gel will only flow to where you put the slip layer not in the cuticles

From experience i think its more comfortable when you hold the natural nail when you file the fake nail because it vibrates and it feels weird.

@Sandra Hernandez -- YAAAS girl!! That's my abso fave hard gel or builder gel hack. You are so right! Working one nail at a time, after you have applied, if you turn it over so the hand is the palm is facing up, you can actually see the gel kind of move into the middle of the nail, forming the apex with the gel. Once I learned that hack, gels were so, so, so much easier! And BTW-the quarantine SUCKS. But we definitely all learn to do our nails!

Oh, and also, have others have mentioned, if you have client turn their hand upside down for a few seconds the gel will be pulled by gravity into a perfect apex. Also helpful if your gel starts getting away from you.

I have used acrylic and gel. You definitely have to file the tip for gel. Another thing is that gel is easier to file than acrylic and it’s softer. I usually use a 80/100 file to shape acrylic, but it’s better to use a 180/240 file to shape gel nails. I also never use a drill on my gel nails

Hey I’ve been watching your videos for the past 2 weeks and last week I ordered all the nail stuff because I always wanted to do cosmetology, and you make it seem so easy 😩, I did my sisters nails today and omg I feel like I did good for it being my first time but I had such a hard time applying the acrylic it was getting dry too quick and I had got some acrylic on the skin and I couldn’t get it off lol 😩😂 but I tried to file it away it helped lol .
