Could I wipe down with acetone, then add a semi cured gel over the top? I’m not good with using gel overlay, making apexes, etc. I’m thinking about experimenting with clear french tips on top of full coverage gel nails. I absolutely love the almond shaped nails and think it looks much better in the full coverage tip then any nail tech in my area is able to do.

Ive been doing (and calling them gel x) for about a year after teaching myself the most BASIC form of acrylics at home, love the gel but you just blew my mind I was just putting the full coverage tip over the gel, curing and then PAINTING with gel polish. NO soak off builder coat at all , let alone leaving a gap and doing the builder gel. I couldnt figure out two week was the MOST I could get out of a set. I think you just changed my game honey. Ive never been to your channel, this is the first video and I learned more than all the other videos ive ever watched. You got a sub faeva girl! In my opinion, many ‘full time nail techs’ are fabulous at their job but are not good at teaching… Your benefit is actually that you are still learning! God Bless you for not skipping over the important details. This is why getting a tutorial from a professional is crucial. Years ago when I first tried dabbling with prof gels and acrylic products as a “KZbin self taught DIYer”, I had no idea that flooding product into your cuticles only to later e-file and add product on top again would cause an extreme serious reaction. My fingers itched so bad for two days to the point scolding hot water was the only relief. Safe to say it was a disaster. I wish I knew that detail before causing a perm allergy to all those products. 😢 Since then I can only use GEL X (the brand) without any reaction, not fair!!! But it’s preventable ladies!! THANK YOU - Never change! ❤

I have been doing my nails at home and watching nail content for as long as KZbin has existed and you’re the first one to explain that the point of pushing back the cuticles is to give you that extra space while you work and then they go back. 😭 Thank you! 🙏🏻
@Surfmagic13

Actuallu the point of pushing back the cuticle and removing the extra skin that is on the nail isnt to give extra room its so the extentions can adhere your nail fully so you wont get any lifting or separation.

Hi 👋 from the 🇬🇧 I just came across your video. I taught myself to do gel nails about 6 years ago by watching KZbin videos. I have arthritis and Fibromyalgia so it’s getting harder to do but like someone els said, I like having nice nails so will keep doing it for as long as I can. In looking for an easier/quicker way I’ve been looking at Gel X method. By the way, thanks for making it clear to me that Gel X is a brand name and there are others that are the same concept. You explain and demonstrate so clearly every step and the products you need AND without shouting or loud music👏🏻 You know what it’s like though £££ cost wise adopting a new method and getting what you need. I agree with leaving a small gap from the cuticle area. It gives a very neat finish and looks professional. I’m going to cost up what I’m going to need. I need more builder gel so that’s good I can get the soak of next. Any advice you can give me regarding having flat nail beds 🙏🏻💅🏻🫶🏻

To your point about applying press-ons- you can absolutely apply nails with acrylic as well. Just like you would UV products but without the need to cure by light ❤ Similarly, you can do the lazy girl method with acrylic and fill the entire nail with it

Mine were 10x worse I wish more nail enthusiast shared this stuff cause if left untreated it gets fucking horrific. Keep all your tools sterilized and if u have broken skin at cuticles shut it down till it’s healed or u will have severe allergic rash burning itching it’s hell. ill have to send u pics i don’t know how to post any here though.

Wow! This was so effortless! I do my nails myself and use gel tips and builder gel too. But I also use an e-file and I file a lot, I cut cuticles and then file the area where they were with the ball bit. And after applying a gel tip I file with the e-file too. So it takes a lot of time, I have blood like on every finger and sometimes it hurts. Also my room needs to be cleaned after. So finally I stopped enjoying doing my nails and stopped to do them. But your nails are so beautiful! And you do them without suffering, wasting a whole day, cleaning your room after etc. It's like a pure joy :) After watching your video I realized it is not necessary to try to achieve some kind of "perfection". I mean I can just enjoy the process, I can change it and make enjoyable, and have beautiful nails at the end. Thanks!

I love that you discuss HEMA-free gels and not being able to cure gel underneath opaque covers, and would love a list of brands that are, because the very first time I ever used gel, I had an allergic reaction, and HEMA was the culprit, hence my now gluing gel x covers all made offhand as press-ons. My fave HEMA-free so far is Rosalind, as they have mini-sized polish kits. For any that don't know, HEMA allergic reactions are absolutely NASTY, and if ignored, can trigger further allergies to other ingredients of a similar type.
@mckenziebartlett6977

You should look into Madam Glam! They have amazing HEMA free gels! I’m allergic as well and all of my gel polishes are from them! Though I suggest looking at their ingredients on each of their polishes because every once in a while they’ll have one that isn’t HEMA free. I use Aprés brand extend gel but the sensitive edition one because I don’t have reactions to it! Madam Glam also have a non-acid nail primer that is HEMA free because most actually have HEMA in them! 😊

Undercured gel I'm sure 😓 Didn't start to happen until I began Gel X. I'm so glad you reccomended a good HEMA-free brand because as far as I know, I am only familiar with one brand, Kodies gel. For anyone reading this, it is NO JOKE 😣😭 Do not get that stuff on your skin and make sure it isn't too thick so it cures completely!! Hi❤️I love that more men find their way into the nail industri, and show their skills on KZbin. That said I do have a small problem. At it is just ment as kind constructive critisism. It sounds like you are a little confused concerning your liquids. You say acetone, and then also Call it acohol…two completely different things. Acetone is chemically a ketone (and it can infact sometimes contain small amounts of oil, which will make your product lift.) The alkohol we normally use for doing nails is rubbing alkohol (ex. 70 %). This has a dehydrating effect and is never containing oil, which makes it wonderful for doing nails. Just keep the two things apart. ❤️

I watch so many nail techs that specialize in gelx and polygel but they give out so much false information or not able to explain but only show how to get the results. anyways I think it’s amazing that your knowledge about the things you love.

I've been watching nail videos for years...and your nail looked better than 99% of the ones I've seen! It looked so even and natural! Great job explaining your technique! And I've watched enough nail videos to know what you meant when you said alcohol/acetone! 😁

Thank you so much for this video. It answered literally so many questions. I had no idea that it was normal to leave a little space between the fake nail and cuticle. That’s gonna save me hours of fixing my mistakes!

New sub! I just subbed to your brother a little over a week ago! I am a retired 61 year old. I graduated from Cosmetology school in 1988, before I decided my true calling was in law enforcement. But this video was so fascinating! I learned how to do the acrylic nails we were all wearing then but never persued that avenue. Too many steps back then. I couldn’t be bothered 😂 Now that I’m looking for hobbies, you have really peaked my interest! Thank you 🥰👍

I WISH we had KZbin and all the nail products we have now when I was younger. I would have had manicured nails all the time. I was in my twenties before acrylic nails became a thing and couldn’t afford to go get them done regularly so I just never messed with my nails. Have been doing my nails at home now for about a year and a half and you are right about using cuticle oil daily and pushing them back makes your nail beds longer. I now have rounded cuticle areas instead of straight across (except the thumbs). Anyway, thanks for putting out videos like these.

Oh my god, that voice of yours is amazing, it fits so well with the good explanation you give, especially that the gelly tips do not have to be completely against your cuticle but just fill it with a thick gel super tip!! You have a Dutch fan, thanks for the explanation, it is very helpful. Love from Holland 👍💖🥰

You are 100% correct about getting to close to get your cuticles to look perfect and getting allergies from the gels " no wonder " thanks for sharing that part on application because that was one of my issues back in the day when I started and no one really explained it... all was said is get close to your cuticles as possible but tried not to touch your skin, but you explained perfectly how your cuticles will get back to its shape it since its been pushed back and cut makes since. I don't want to sound dumb but it's good to know for those who are getting into the DIY nails at home you know
