Like David Foster said, Natalie truly lived this music and the artists who performed them before her greatly influenced her voice once she embraced her father’s legacy. She ran away from it for so long but once she was able to handle the pressure, she gave the world some beautiful interpretations of this music in her own way. Her voice totally matched the lyrics and the orchestra’s playing and arrangements. She told many stories covering this American Song book!!! Her talent vocally was not just held there because her Spanish album is just breathtaking and in my opinion one of her greatest and best vocal masterpieces! The world should be reviewing this incredible body of work. She didn’t speak Spanish but sung an entire album fluently in this language. It’s Grammy worthy and deserves much more appreciation and respect especially from our community! No other African American artist or female artist has ever achieved this…

I nvr will forget when she encored with this song at the Hollywood Bowl with the house lights on, and a third of the audience already headed to their cars. The orchestra scrambled back into place, and I was a whole two sections lower, standing with my igloo in hand. (I got that they.gotta.put.me.out.to.close.up.shop attitude, ..but not that night although I caught the last bus back to my car which was some 28 miles away.) It was the best all standards show. I didn't even miss her not doing any R&B that night. I spent like $18 on that evening. $3 to get in (yeah the back wall), $7 on park & ride, $1 on seat cushion, $5 on rented binoculars, & $2 on a pretzel. She debuted her see through black gown that evening, but it didn't outshine her performance. The Opening: the house lights went down, the orchestra struck and held one note, she sauntered out to the mike and str⁸ began to sing AAWWKnows. It was the epitome of what the Bowl was made for. The project was released like three weeks later.🥂

What a beautiful moment!!!!! I wanted so bad to go see her live and she had came to Alabama multiple times and missed every opportunity. Thanks for sharing that beautiful memory.

A wonderful reaction to the wonderful Natalie Cole. Thank You. I was fortunate to see Natalie Cole live in a double bill concert with George Benson in the early 2000s on my birthday. Natalie and George deftly combined jazz, r&b, and pop into a wonderful amalgam. I have a request/suggestion. I would love to see your reaction to a video of a live performance by Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Peggy Lee, and Sarah Vaughan together singing a medley of Duke Ellington songs.
