Check, Check and Check, all 3 of those singers you hear in Haley are Haley's influences. Having zero connection to anything I heard on the radio or TV was what lead me to discovering Haley. Her versatility has introduced me to so many genres, a pure and natural talent. Great reaction.

You mentioned Etta James. I recommend listening to a KZbin video titled "Haley Reinhart performs with her dad at Chess Records in Chicago". After a bit of introduction/background, Haley performs one of the best covers of "Can't Find My Way Home" you'll ever hear and an original song, "Don't Know How to Love You." In the intro for the latter, Haley credits Etta James with being a source of inspiration. Haley Reinhart is an independent artist. She was signed to Interscope after Idol in 2011, but was dropped without having had a chance to do a proper tour to support her debut album, "Listen Up!", which the New York Times called "convincing and fresh." She reemerged in the public eye in 2015 for her work with Postmodern Jukebox, which puts a vintage spin on modern songs. They feature different vocalists each week in YT videos. Haley is tops in views. Her rendition of "Creep" alone having more than 111 million views. That led to an opportunity to record "Can't Help Falling in Love" for an Extra gum ad campaign. It went viral and charted on the radio. It currently has 357M Spotify streams. That success led to her music publisher, which had agreed to finance an EP, producing an LP instead (called "Better"). And Haley once again fielding offers for record deals from various labels. She signed with artist-friendly Concord Records and produced an album consisting mostly of classic rock songs from 1965-1969, recorded on vintage instruments and tape called "What's That Sound?". It had a few original songs as well. Haley's first two albums were all originals except for CHFIL. Haley independently produced her fourth album, "Lo-Fi Soul" and released it on her own label, "Reinhart Records." Haley's first love is music. She did however voice the son "Bill" in the Netflix animated show "F is for Family," based loosely on comedian Bill Burr's childhood. It ran for five seasons. The show's co-creator called her the heart and soul of the show. Haley also appeared in the Robert Rodriguez kid's superhero movie "We Can Be Heroes" released on Netflix. She played Ms. Vox whose power is her voice. She performs the title track, which is based on the David Bowie song of the same name.

OK, I'm biased but if you want to see more of what was in "I Put a Spell On You?" (If you didn't know, that was my video w/ Haley's mixed sound board audio) Here's video from last Friday's Christmas show, Haley with a big band orchestra (w/ brass) singing "O Holy Night"... Fair warning, you should sit for this... kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3e1oapuhL6cpLc

Haley Reinhart is definitely extremely underrated. Most of her claim to fame videos were performed with Postmodern Jukebox. Songs like Creep, Don’t Speak and All About That Bass and Seven Nation Army. When you mentioned Etta James, you were right on She recorded 2 songs at Chess Records in Chicago, home of Etta James recordings. She sang with just her dad on guitar. The first song is Can’t find my way home, and the second is an original dedicated to Etta James, called Don’t Know How To Love You. Talk about soul. A must watch.

Dylan - I'm glad you got introduced to Haley. You won't be disappointed as you dive deeper into her catalogue. And you're 100% right about the industry as a whole, but I'm not sure this is anything new. I'm going to paraphrase an old author/boss of mine that once said to me, "Business books aren't written to be read. They're written to be sold." Same with pop music. It's not created to be listened to. It's created - first and foremost - to be sold. I suspect there are plenty of artists out there that have the talent to make it big in the mainstream, but don't necessarily want to make the artistic choices required to do that. Haley seems to have a good thing going, probably making a decent living, but may not want to "sell out" just to make the big bucks. Who knows? I liked your reaction, and since you asked for some feedback, I'll politely offer this: Your editorial comments are great and can distinguish you from other reactors out there. Just keep them a bit brief and to the point, even if you have to pause the video and edit in your commentary later. Overall, though, good work!

Thank you for such an incisive and insightful analysis. Keep getting up on your soapbox citing the need for real music artists and promoting the under appreciated ones like Haley Reinhart. I hope your plea for a Peggy Lee Biopic starring Haley Reinhart is heard and acted on by the powers that be.

Dylan, I know you will be checking out her PostModern Jukebox covers! When you get time you should react to Haley Reinhart, Slash, and Myles Kennedy's performance of Rolling Stone's Wild Horses! It was in Las Vegas 2015 and was at Mohammad Ali's 70th birthday bash!

Not Bad for a Live Performance!!!!! Actually, AMAZING!!! She don’t work for a Major Label so no recognition! Just like Home Free that produce on their own. You listen to her other performances & you’ll say she’s better than Peggy Lee!

You should react to Haley Reinhart with Postmodern Jukebox's cover of "Creep". As it stayed on the Billboard Digital Jazz Chart for 58 straight weeks. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2TPd2WneqZlmdk&ab_channel=PostmodernJukebox I promise you will be more than blown away. Anyway, nobody is pushing Haley Reinhart. Why? Because she is her own worse enemy. As she refuses to sign a record contract. Hence, as a direct result, Haley always remains extremely obscure and exceedingly unknown. As most people have never heard of her name, let alone have heard her sing. Which is sad because she is a world class talent in every way. In fact, that music video you just watched of "I Put a Spell On You" is a fan video that was recorded by a fan sitting in the audience of one of Haley's concerts. It was not professionally recorded or produced. Indeed, if you are going to be a Haley Reinhart fan, it isn't easy, as you will have to get used to watching primarily fan videos and a lot of time, with piss poor audio. As again, she always remains independent. I hate to see anyone with her level of talent throw it all down the drain, but it's her life and the only one that can change her mind regarding her career is only Haley. Nonetheless, it is still very sad to see someone of her level of talent never be recognized for it. Truthfully, it doesn't make any sense, but again, its her prerogative.

great reaction dylan and spot on here... she is the epitome of "authentic" and represents everything missing in our current state of mostly surface level over produced music. i have been listening to a variety of music my entire life but nobody touches the soul quite like haley reinhart. as others have mentioned her vintage interpretation of "creep" with postmodern jukebox is a masterpiece and maybe one of the best covers ever done here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2TPd2WneqZlmdk . she also did a stunning platinum selling solo of "can't help falling in love" here that is frequently referred to as what love sounds like: kzbin.info/www/bejne/laaxoXiYqZyqldE . enjoy! 😎

Haley is mega talented, but for some reason she won't sign a record deal. I always thought it was because she didn't want to be labeled a pop artist, but hell, she could very easily sign with a jazz label. I wish she would sign with a jazz label and then release an album of her interpretation of all the great jazz standards accompanied with music videos featuring Haley performing them live in front of a full jazz orchestra and in front of a live audience. I bet Haley would quickly become the female version of Michael Buble . Here's Haley singing "Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You" at the Kenosha Jazz festival. As this performance briefly went viral when it was first released on KZbin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZWvfKCOorSBY9E&ab_channel=HaleysTusk And here is another performance of Haley singing "My Baby Just Cares For Me' with Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZrTiXRvoa-tmZI&ab_channel=JeffGoldblumVEVO Both of those performances are great Jazz reaction videos if you want to promote Jazz on your channel. Meanwhile, Haley's version of "Creep" with Postmodern Jukebox is next level. Along with Haley's versions of "Seven Nation Army, Don't Speak, Oops, I Did It Again, Habits, and All About That Bass all with PMJ are all next level and worthy reaction music videos as well.
