It's a simple matter: Let the point A be the time the right hand enters the water. Let the point B the time at which the right hand enters the water again. Those two points define a cycle. Count how many downbeat kicks are in that interval: this number is the number of kick beats per cycle. In other words: twice the relation between the number of kicks and the number of arm strokes [twice because there are two arm strokes in each cycle, and you want the number of kick per cycle.]

those dolphin kicks are best imho, when upward force is applied to the amount of water between your legs and the surface, much less reactive force is pushing you forward as opposed to side to side. That gives you much more because there is no air for the water to transfer that to. that 8 beat is incredible :O

Creo que es algo que Coughlin usa conscientemente. En Atenas, en los 100m de espalda usaba también 8 patadas por ciclo. Estuve viendo de Atenas los 4x200m libres. Coughlin sale como primer relevo, y sale haciendo 8 patadas por ciclo. Yo creo que aprovecha las 8 patadas cuando los brazos están frescos para nadar con una menor frecuencia de brazada sin perder velocidad. Es el único nadador/a al que he visto usar más de 6 patadas por ciclo en competencia. Gracias por comentar
