Idc what anyone says it’s a really good movie and I’d say one of Natalie Portmans best performances imo.
@TomMccarthy-bp7yp4 ай бұрын
Yeah the whole point is that she is a child from an abusive household and he is a man that is uncomfortable with it but still wants to look after her. In fact there is a scene in the European one where she basically asks to have sex with him and he tells her he can’t because its not right and he loves another woman (letting her down softly and also partly true). And because it was cut from the American one, because the situation is more unspoken, I feel like it makes the movie have a creepier air about it. Im happy jean reno made them change the script though because otherwise it would have probably completely ruined a good movie.

Right and it’s a point that crosses the threshold of boundaries beyond worth proving. Some stories don’t need to be told. Especially one that involves sexualizing a 12yo girl. What good does it do to go to this extent to show us ptsd has this affect on child development. To spread awareness? As if no one knows to be patient with children from abusive homes. No need to have a half naked child on screen for 2 hours to tell us that. Take your normalization of pedophilic themes the fuck on somewhere.

It always read to me as the idea that she didn't know any other way that girls can be loved by men because her father never loved her and she was pretty much raised by the TV in their living room. And that she was trying to make him want to keep her around so she could survive. That it took her a long time to understand that she could be loved for herself and not just because a man wanted something from her. That's why he reacted so strongly to her acting out and he only treats her like an adult when he realizes that she'll never move on if she doesn't get revenge. That she'll run away and get herself shot if he doesn't help her.

The Gaumont Film Company is a French film production company. The film had nothing at all to do with Hollywood in terms of the production itself (Columbia Pictures did the American distribution, but again zero production input). Luc Besson was a French director living in France working for a French studio, so while there are creepy dudes in Hollywood, this creep factor had nothing to do with them. There is a line, even for them, that they won't cross. I mean the Hollywood creeps won't document their creep factor by making 12 and 46 a couple . Probably why he's never actually worked for an American production company, only had them as distribution partners for his films.
