nice overview, i wouldve added a few more things: 1) main specs that should be checked before even attempting to restore the caliper. ive had the joy of completely restoring a caliper and then finding out that some parameters were out of spec and having to ditch it all. 2) cylinder honing - when the cylinders/pistons have corrosion, then honing usually gets it better 3) bleeder screw purgatory - how to get seized bleeder screws out and how to restore the holes without messing it all up. In screws that have not been serviced for a long time, the screw threads can be completely corroded to dust. This dust can re enter the fluid system and contaminate it. When drilling and rethreading its important not to damage the conical shaped bottom of the screw hole as its a fine-sealing with the screw and restoring that is a struggle on its own.

One small problem, you shouldn’t paint the part of the carrier where the brake pad ears slide on. It should be a metal to metal interface rather than metal to paint, for obvious reasons. Just greasing that part will stop it rusting anyway.

Finally this video - caliper restoration is one of the most common thing for DYI and worth some interesting amount of money. I've restored many of them but there is always one issue - how long a particular procedure combined with some products LASTS in real life. Some "restored" calipers are rusting again after couple of weeks and it looks good only on KZbin when it's just finished :) I might try AutoDoc's way of doing it. Fingers crossed.
