"Bird of Prey" appears on Natalie Prass's self-titled debut album out now on Spacebomb Records / StarTime International.
Order now: smarturl.it/Nat...
directed and edited by Tony Forgey
photography by Tony Forgey
additional photography by Trey Pollard
Pop is not a thing to be feared. The first Spacebomb single from Natalie Prass, "Bird of Prey" hits fierce and fast, moving with a silky, yet propulsive beat. Our calm narrator, resigned to the dark fate of love, moves along with a confident lyrical pace, as flutes dive and weave through stabs of muted horn and an underpinning of easy rolling tack piano. It's difficult to pinpoint any specific time or place; the music simply exists in a protean mist of swirling strings. Prass wraps her glowing voice around the hook and delivers a knock-out jewel of a song, addictive, deep-cut and flat-out timeless. This track and the forthcoming full-length record represent a high point of Spacebomb's collaborative vision: the give-and-take of passionate musical conversation, seamless connection between artist, arrangers and players, honoring the history and putting time into the process to reach a classic new sound.

What really attracts me to this song is that the voice sounds so cutting through the mix. That's for all of the people who think the vocals are too loud. It is a very a effective mix and I find it appealing.

This is gorgeous!! Her voice is pure and clean and supple and just because she's not a belter doesn't mean she's not terrific... all you haters in the comment thread, wise up. Smaller but exceptionally well-deployed voices can be just as effective and enjoyable as loud brassy ones. (Blossom Dearie?) Her phrasing, emotional investment, and lilting ease are a breath of fresh air.

I can understand that some wouldnt like Natalie Prass' voice however I simply adore it and her music and lyrics. Clean, slick and yet so soulful. "My baby don't understand me" is a another favourite not to mention "Plunder" and "Violently" Cannot stop listening.

Y'all don't realize that Natalie writes the majority if not all of this music, so talking about how the music / lyrics are strong but how much you just hate her voice is completely pointless. Without her voice none of the other stuff would exist. I love ya Natalie, much love from the 757!!!!!!!

Natalie is a key song writer but if you actually owned this record you would realize that the writing credits for the music are vast...Trey Pollard is responsible for most the string arrangements which make up most of the record. This was put out by spacebomb records and the spacebomb house band contributed a fair amount to the sound of this record. Also, Daniel Clarke is credited throughout this record. So please shut the fuck up and think about all the amazing musicians that go into creating a record this great. Natalie is amazing but this record was not writin "mostly" by anyone.

You plucked me from the vine A clean detachment And although it wasn't time When did it happen? Oh you, you don't leave me no choice Oh you, you don't leave me no choice Oh you, you don't leave me no choice But to run away You are a bird of prey With a heart like the night We had all the world to hide In deep fields and tall grasses And when you said it feels like time Ooh, do you have me? Ooh, and I love you up in the womb Oh, you will not let me go And then the sun, it sets on the moon I can't get you away from me Oh, no, you, you don't leave me no choice Oh you, oh no you don't leave me no choice Oh you, oh you don't leave me no choice But to run away You are a bird of prey With a heart like the night Ooh, and I never said I didn't want you knocking on my door All this run and chase, it's almost like you planned it Never have I thought, I'm just telling me before, ooh Well, I never said I didn't want you knocking on my door All this run and chase, it's almost like you planned it It's out of hand it's, ooh, out of my control Oh you, oh you don't leave me no choice Oh you, oh no you don't leave me no choice Oh you, oh you don't leave me no choice But to run away You are a bird of prey With a heart like the night Ooh, I never said No, I never said I didn't want you I never said I didn't want you knocking on my door Ooh, I never said No, I never said I didn't want you Ooh, I never said I didn't want you knocking on my door

loganonamac7 Ms. Prass has a very soft thin voice like Janet Jackson, the music would over power her vocals if they try to place it more in the mix.

loganonamac7 Yes I agree, an unusual mix decision to place it so dry and up front, it sounds like it's not part of the music. But she has a good voice, the arrangements are breezy.

Quorthon Venom I don't need any suggestions on what to listen to. I have a ton of knowledge of music. I'm just saying that Natalie's voice is not strong enough to carry these beautiful songs. I hope she gets better. "Because it fits the topic" is a weak argument and very vague.
