I've always sand alto, but this year my choir teacher let me sing second soprano... I was excited until I realized it was the same thing as alto just a little higher and tighter harmonies...

Goldrich and Heisler, probably my favorite composing team EVER, being sung by Natalie Weiss....this is wonderful. It makes me giggle every time I watch it because I'm a soprano (gasp, I know) and the altos are ALWAYS saying stuff like that.

This song is perfect! I've sung Alto my entire life. I was informed by my choir director that most Altos are Mezzos; a Contralto refers to the timbre/pitch of someone's voice, not the choral part and is not common among women. It's actually fun and challenging to sing harmony and I feel blessed that I can do it very well, but sometimes, even a mid-range singer wants to sing lead!

i've been an alto for years but just this year got switched to soprano 2 by my new choir teacher. it's actually quite a change but i caught on quickly. and to the people wondering why she's singing so high when it's a song about being an alto: if you listen to the lyrics, she's singing about how she wishes she could sing the melody for once, which is usually higher. so she's kind of showing what she can do, basically. personally, i LOVE singing harmony. i feel more important that way.

I am an Alto. Even though I am still in high school i still get annoyed at not being able to sing melody and can relate entirely with this song. My choral director just gave us a song that the altos get melody but it is our schools Alma Matter, so it is not the best song in the world but it is still melody so I am happy. :)

I sing contralto and OMG! I relate so much. I was told I have "man voice", I was told I'd make a great villainess after singing the reprise of Mother Knows Best and I sound 50 even thoug I'm 14. Really, let contraltos/altos be the heroine for once.

Probable Mezzo Soprano here, never really done theater, but I've always wanted to play villains, so I'm kind of jealous of you guys, especially since we get the in-between roles, like the mom, or the best friend, or the boring sidekick. Sopranos get the hero roles and you guys get all the cool villain roles. But yeah, there should be more Contralto hero roles, especially since in a lot of my thoughts, the Sopranos can actually be villains.

I'm an actual soprano (S1) and even I can understand this. Its hard to believe, but sopranos have a harder time in musical theater. Altos can belt in an amazing Broadway style, while sopranos often have to stick to more classical styles. There's also much more competition among sopranos because there are more of us, so even sopranos find it impossible to get a lead role sometimes. We're sorry we are often privileged in the world of music, but just remember we're really jealous of those rich lower notes no one can sing as well as an alto.

My voice ranges from an alto 2 to a soprano 2 with the occasional soprano 1 (depending on the day and the song). I understand this song so well as well as also longing to sing alto because I always get put as a Soprano 2 since I have strong sight reading skills and it tends to be an intricate part (especially in choral)

The first year I took chorus we were split into parts by our last names (it was so stupid) and I have the last name beginning with the letter "R", so I was put into part 2, which was alto. I hated it, because I'm not an alto. It was very difficult to sing and I hated it because it was so low. I feel for you, altos. (:

i did hairspray with mark jermin and i am usually a alto .... but the sopranos had all the best tunes especially in without love soo know i am a sonprano and found out i can hit top f# !! which is higher than c which most sopranos can only reach :D

Haha, why have I just found this? As a soprano with a large range, I've been getting shunted to the alto section ("You're loud and you can sing it") and I can definitely sympathize. I love harmony, don't get me wrong, but come on, singing E4 an entire song? Please.
