In this India Travel Vlog, I make it down to Pondicherry (Puducherry). Pondicherry is a beachside city in South India which used to be a French colonial settlement. Due to that it still has a big French influence - from many people speaking French to the French architecture and lots of French food (including tons of French bakeries)! I decided to start my day off by trying out a few French bakeries! My first stop was Zuka Chocolate Cafe. I didn't realize that it was only a chocolate store as opposed to an actual bakery, so I picked up some chocolate truffles to save for later (they were delicious)! I then went to Le Petit Four Cafe for a pain au chocolat and iced Americano (my coffee of choice). They didn't have iced Americano on the menu, but they made me one. It wasn't amazing, but the pain au chocolat was soo good! My next stop was my favorite: The French Loaf. They had a huge assortment of baked good as well as fresh baked bread! I got another iced Americano and an almond croissant - both were AMAZING!!! I also wanted to go to Bouche Sucree Cafe, but I didn't want to eat anymore this morning (I went the next day and it was also really nice)! I then stumbled upon my first big church in Pondicherry as I walked toward the Rock Beach. While you can't swim at the Rock Beach, there are lots of other beaches close to Pondicherry where you can both swim and surf. Along the beach promenade there is a huge statue of Gandhi which was across from a handicraft exhibition. I then continued walking to the main park: Bharathi Park. It was really nice and full of people. On the opposite side of the park I visited the Puducherry Museum. Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures or videos inside, but it was a cool little museum to see lots of artifacts from the area. Next I went to Sri Aurobindo Ashram. You weren't allowed to use your phones inside the ashram, however I really enjoyed visiting it! It was the most peaceful place I had been in a while, even though there were lots of people there!! I then left the French quarters to go back to the main street and see some of the Hindu temples in Pondicherry. I passed two others on the way to the main Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple. I didn't enter the temple as there were a lot of people inside, but the outside of all three temples were gorgeous and so colorful! From there I walked along the main street, passing the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. I stopped for a great salad at the Pasta Bar Veneto before continuing on to the far side of Pondicherry to see the Sacred Heart Basilica. Unfortunately something was happening at the basilica so I also didn't enter, but the outside of the building is definitely worth seeing as well! That concluded my first day exploring Pondicherry. It did not disappoint!! Pondicherry is unlike anywhere else I visited in India! It was so easy to walk around and I felt safe everywhere on my own. I'm so happy I visited!!

Pondicherry has French cuisine influence, Goa has Portuguese cuisine influence. British colonized most of the India, but there is no British food influence. This says a lot about British cuisine.

That's a good time to visit, I would definitely recommend going a different route then most to show a different perspective to the area, PARVATI Temple, Boko, Assam and then drop down into Riangdo, our house is on route 10 not far from St. Joseph's Church, if you are looking for a place to stay we definitely have the hottest shower (maybe the only one, lol) in the area! Some of the most beautiful rice fields I have ever seen in that area. I have photos and some videos if you are interested. Hopefully when we retire 10-15 years we will open our homestay up.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT BEING A HINDU (Sanatana Dharma)? Written by Indian Journalist having French roots - François Gautier 1) Believe in God ! - Aastik - Accepted 2) Don't believe in God ! - You're accepted as Nastik 3) You want to worship idols - please go ahead. You are a murti pujak. 4) You dont want to worship idols - no problem. You can focus on Nirguna Brahman-shapeless, formless ,infinite, without beginning or end(nirvikalpa brahama) 5) You want to criticise something in our religion. Come forward. We are logical. Nyaya, Tarka etc. are core Hindu schools. 6) You want to accept beliefs as it is. Most welcome. Please go ahead with it. 7) You want to start your journey by reading Bhagvad Gita - Sure ! 8) You want to start your journey by reading Upanishads - Go ahead. 9) You want to start your journey by reading Purana - Be my guest. 10) You just don't like reading Puranas or other books. No problem my dear. Go by Bhakti tradition . ( bhakti- devotion) 11) You don't like idea of Bhakti ! No problem. Do your Karma. Be a karmayogi. 12) You want to enjoy life. Very good. No problem at all. This is Charvaka Philosophy. 13) You want to abstain from all the enjoyment of life & find God - jai ho ! Be a Sadhu, an ascetic ! 14) You don't like the concept of God. You believe in Nature only - Welcome. (Trees are our friends and Prakriti or nature is worthy of worship). 15) You believe in one God or Supreme Energy. Superb! Follow Advaita philosophy 16) You want a Guru. Go ahead. Receive gyaan.(gyan yoga) 17) You don't want a Guru.. Help yourself ! Meditate, Study !(still gyana or raj yoga) 18) You believe in Female energy ! Shakti is worshipped. 19) You believe that every human being is equal. Yeah! You're awesome, come on let's celebrate Hinduism! "Vasudhaiva kutumbakam" (the world is a family) 20) You don't have time to celebrate the festival. Don't worry. One more festival is coming! There are multiple festivals every single day of the year. 21) You are a working person. Don't have time for religion. Its okay. You will still be a Hindu. 22) You like to go to temples. Devotion is loved. 23) You don't like to go to temples - no problem. You are still a Hindu! 24) You know that Hinduism ☺ is a way of life, with considerable freedom. 25) You believe that everything has God in it. So you worship your mother, father, guru, tree, River, Prani-matra, Earth, Universe! 26) And If you don't believe that everything has GOD in it - No problems. Respect your viewpoint. 27) "Sarve jana sukhino bhavantu " (May you all live happily) You represent this! You're free to choose, my dear Hindu! This is exactly the essence of Hinduism, all inclusive .. That is why it has withstood the test of time inspite of repeated onslaught both from within and outside, and assimilated every good aspects from everything . That is why it is eternal !!! There is a saying in Rigveda, the first book ever known to mankind which depicts the Hinduism philosophy in a Nutshell - "Ano Bhadrah Krathavo Yanthu Vishwathah "- Let the knowledge come to us from every direction"

@@sandeepjayaram9674 Hi Pondicherrian here. Puducherry was actually a part of French trading company (its headquarters actually) during the colonial era. Never a part of British India. We actually have a separate Independence Day and Republic Day. The liberation day is on November 1 (when the French government transferred the territories to Indian government) and Jour de transfer on Aug 16. Officially became part of Indian government in 1962. That’s why we are UT instead of states. So she is not entirely wrong when she said French India.

@@NataliesPassport they are Karikal further south of Puduchery in Tamil Nadu State, Yanam on the coast of Andhra Pradesh ( north of Chennai) and Mahe ( Kerala Coast) and Chandernagar in Bengal. Puduchery the biggest and the seat of French India. Rest are all small with not much French architecture to see and French culture residual. Mahe along Kerala Coast might interest as it’s small but compact. Karikal is even smaller with no real vestiges to see, and Yanam in Andhra Pradesh might have some ( although French tourists tend to go only to Puduchery) . Safe travels!
