As a French I have been to India 5 times over 12 years and it is my absolute favorite place to visit. I agree with you, the first time it was definitely a culture shock to me as it was so unlike any place I have been but the more I stayed the more I felt at home. I have been to all the places you have been along with Bengaluru, Mumbai, Indore, Kashmir, etc. The natural beauty, insane diversity, the delicious food and amazing people made me fall in love with this country. Of course people can have different experiences depending on where you have been and what time, but that could happen in any country. The first time I went was in 2012 which is a lot different to how it is now as India are growing faster than any country and I clearly noticed the difference in infrastructure when I last visited in 2022. Definitely looking forward to going again soon.

6:44, If it is a family or a young married couple inviting you to their house, most of the time (99.99%), you won't have any safety issues visiting them, as they will treat you as a guest visiting their family. People in India are typically family-oriented, as you may have observed. If it is a young man or a few young males inviting you to their house (which I believe most well-raised males [by their families] in India would not do), then you may have to think twice about it or avoid it. Having said that, it is your choice/preference whether to accept or decline their invitation, as you are free to do so. This coming from an NRI living in the US.

As an Indian I had never heard of this Golden triangle. I only came across this when I saw some foreigners go there. These places are definitely tourist attractions but that also makes them quite hectic, especially Delhi. I went to Delhi and Agra and just like the foreigners I had this problem of taxi drivers constantly trying to persuade me for a ride and the only to way I found to get away is to develop a thick skin to say NO and ignore. If you try and be nice they will start doing it even more. I always took an Uber and that is what I'm going to recommend everyone coming here. I'm glad you went to all these other places to explore had fun. Can't wait for you next video ❤

Yes. Selfie craze is very intrusive most of the time for foreign visitors. Here even people from North East India got mistaken for Koreans and selfies were asked for in Delhi by locals.

Hey Racheal , just wanna say something for that comment above me. a toolkit is working against Indian tourism. I just opened the profile of this "Andromeda queen" and really , the picture seems to be fake and i dont really believe its an actual profile. What Natalie said is very apt, and im glad genuine female tourists are coming out with their real experience. Just follow basic common guidelines and be alert like how u would be in any foreign land, and u should be fine. Like as an Indian , when i visit abroad...i respect that fact that im not in my homeland and i should be alert whereever i go. its as simple. Also, India's rape rate is really low. One more comment I'd like to add here. Although everything has been explained quite well..India is generally safe but unfortunately, there are also bad or unsafe people. I wouldn't really suggest solo travelling but if anyone's still doing, just follow basic safety rules. Avoid unknown places, take proper transportation ( not the cheap ones) , strictly avoid selfies (it's the most annoying thing and I get ashamed of this as an Indian I would never ever do it) and travel in a group. There are many more hidden gems in India like Kasauli, kodaikanal, Sikkim, Darjeeling, ooty, Munnar, Nainital.. Good places to visit. Thank you.

The level of harassment varies from state to state in India. South India is generally the safest where the harassment is generally limited to staring but will not escalate beyond that. Mumbai being more cosmopolitan and mixed with local Maratha culture where women tend to be empowered is also generally safe. The cowbelt states are the least safe where cultural attitudes towards women are terrible and a lot of men truly believe that that any woman who is out and about without male supervision is a slut who enjoys being raped. Delhi has a large influx of immigrants from rural UP and Bihar where women are covered up and kept at home. These immigrants believe that any woman not in traditional attire deserves it. With tourists the attitude is even worse. These guys watch western pornography, and think every white tourist is just like a porn star. This rape culture Is a problem that is very unique to India.

Travelling solo anywhere in the world, much less India requires a lot of courage. Doing the same in India, needs people who are not just brave but also smart and willing to be uncomfortable. You Natalie have achieved something incredible in these past 3.5 months. As an Indian woman, I myself aspire to travel solo one day, but knowing the horrific crimes that happen every minute and how unhelpful authority can be most of the times, always held me back. A scary amount of people lack civic sense and boundaries. But there is a fascinating unparalled beauty that is present in India that is still worth exploring and experiencing. There is a silent majority of people that is decent and always welcoming. You recognised that, took the challenge and ran with it! I think the safety aspect is completely overblown... it is generally a safer country compared to many other places. For instance in Brazil it's extremely dangerous to be out solo at night you could get shot or stabbed walking around Copacabana beach, lots of places in Central America that are dangerous, when I lived in Ecuador I know many people who got mugged in broad daylight... that type of thing hardly happens in India, and since guns are mostly illegal in the country there is very little gun violence there.

I'm glad you had a great experience touring India. As you said, India is the most diverse country in the world regarding its people, food, culture, landscape etc. Cities are absolutely chaotic. Over the last hundred years, our Country's wealth and resources were looted by the invaders and british colonists. so, we are still recovering. which explains the bad infrastructure as compared to the US. I lived in the US for a few yrs and have noticed the cultural differences. Hopefully, you will visit the rest of India in your next travel plans.

Yes, there are bad apples everywhere, but Indian also hate foreigners getting troubled by locals/other issues, so if any foreigner getting any issue, just seek help from any normal man/woman, they will 99.99% help you. The level of harassment varies from state to state in India. South India is generally the safest where the harassment is generally limited to staring but will not escalate beyond that. Mumbai being more cosmopolitan and mixed with local Maratha culture where women tend to be empowered is also generally safe. The cowbelt states are the least safe where cultural attitudes towards women are terrible and a lot of men truly believe that that any woman who is out and about without male supervision is a slut who enjoys being raped. It really gets to me when I see foreigners getting harassed by fellow Indians. Even Indian women don’t feel safe anymore. It’s got something to do with certain cultures, poverty, and all that. India’s got a lot of great things, but it’s got its negatives too. There are definitely some cheap people around. But with such a huge population, there are also so many good people. If you visit India next time, make sure to check out the Northeast. The culture here is a bit like Thailand, Bhutan, and Tibet, and we’ve got similar food too. The people and landscapes are different from the rest of India, and honestly, you’ll feel a lot safer here

I'm so happy that you complained to the police about those boys because if you didn't they'd grow up thinking this is acceptable behavior. Also you should have asked the police to contact his parents and inform them about it. They should be aware what kind of shitty behaviour their kids are learning. As an Indian I would never recommend anyone to visit the golden triangle. Delhi is filled with scammers and eve teasers , Jaipur has horrible traffic , Varanasi is filthy , and agra is in UP and UP is the most unsafe state in India . If the police what they’ve done for you would have done for any Indian this would never have happened. Visit south , Maharashtra, north east region. And you’ll find india amazing .

You know, the very same thing happened to me in Agra. Actually near the great mosque. I would recommend people to avoid that area altogether - I think I had read somewhere that this area should best be avoided by tourists but didn't remember in time. Didn't get any similarly bad vibes anywhere else in Agra and very rarely at all during our 4 week trip. Luckily we just could take an auto and get out of there. I didn't let that take away from my Taj Mahal experience at sunrise which is everything it is made out to be, in my opinion, and the other sights in Agra are gorgeous, too. Another negative point: In Agra of all places we picked up a stomach virus. So everyone heading to Agra: It really is worth the hassle but be extra aware of your surroundings and try to be extra extra safe what food is concerned. I have heard so often of people getting sick in Agra.

Unless you're a well experienced traveller, just avoid typical backpacking. Book better hotels before arriving, use uber or other taxi apps, eat at proper restaurants, take flights, better if you buy a tour package. Avoid the cheapest options. Skip the stereotypical sensory overload experience and try destinations apart from the Taj Mahal and old Delhi, spice markets and slums.

Thank you so much for providing an honest and realistic review of travelling solo in India. There are so many videos portraying India being unsafe, unwelcoming & not for travellers especially solo female. I, being an Indian accept people here are not mature to let foreigners be at their own, and not to bother them. Trying to fleece them through various means, pestering for photos, groping etc are major concerns. Some major misconceptions prevailing about foreigners(ladies) being hippy, easy going & available have componded the harrasment. BUT 2 things you've pointed out should be the MOTTO of people travelling to India. "Always be SMART traveller." And you've so elaborately & beautifully mentioned how to be smart! 2ndly "India is not for immature travellers." Somebody travelling with notions of ease & comforts of a western world will never like it here. India is so vast, east of India is different from west, north from south geographyically, culturally, weather, food...its not for a reason that India is called a subcontinent! An inexperienced foreigner will surely get overwhelmed. Therefore your video should be a "must see" for folks planning a trip to India especially solo women. Ghettos in Delhi are like bad areas in Cairo or Palestinian areas in Amman and Ghettos in Mumbai are like bad areas in Jakarta or Manila. If these vloggers show Pakistan: Lahore, Islamabad, Murree, Nathiagali and Peshawar. India: Kerala, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand Sri Lanka: Colombo, Galle, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy. Then they say that they had 1 month of great experience and want to visit Nepal next, they wouldn't get views. Only negative bs about India sells.
