Omg I love your editing! I literally had the same reaction as you, I felt so defeated... I went with a friend I met who already got accepted with me and her family and I think that may have been a factor too because I wasn't with my family. My brother came because he applied but I still wish my mom would have come with me... My friend Betsy was told to stay so I had to wait for her to get finished. When I came back later after hanging out with my bro I saw alot of girls there who looked really pretty with full face makeup and curled hair. I looked like a toad so that also coulda been why... lesson learned: wear makeup! She did look like Edna mode though!!!!

That means the absolute world to me, considering you're a freaking bonafide cast member. Also, you have no idea how good it feels to hear, although melancholic, that you were also cut in the first round--even though I would put you in that category of the victorias secret model girls of my audition group. I can only hope that next audition is a little lighter on the dance aspect, my theory is that since Atlanta was the last stop on the DCP audition tour, they had maybe pulled too many pure meet and greet characters and were looking for parade people, which is why dance was emphasized in this specific audition experience. Regardless, this is just practice for the future, I'm determined to make it even if that's not till my 20th audition!

Rachel Writes you’ve obviously never been to a Disney audition. For the dcp, you don’t need to be a great dancer to get the job. They tell you at the audition that the most important part is the animation portion. The first march “dance” is to see heights, body types, and movement. You don’t have to have dance experience to get the job, you just need to be what their looking for at the time of your audition.

A piece of advice I give to anyone auditioning for any entertainment based job. It’s not personal. There will always be people who are better. One day you’ll get to be that person. My one successful audition was one where I went in acting as if I was just there doing my job and not auditioning :) but definitely never let an unsuccessful audition get you down.

As someone who has auditioned for Broadway, I hear a lot of excuses about the dancing. “I couldn’t see” “I didn’t spend enough time on it.” “I didn’t know the technical terms...”. In professional theater even with Disney, they don’t care. If you can’t see, move. If you didn’t spend enough time on it, that’s your problem. If you don’t know the technical terms, do some homework. I was in the revival of a chorus line after failing audition after audition because I didn’t know dance terms. I took a dance class.
@NatalieEverAfter5 жыл бұрын
I'm not a professional dancer and I don't claim to be. This was my first time ever doing anything like this, I knew my chances weren't good but I also knew I'd do my best with the skills that I had. You have a valid point in that I need more training for next time and I am taking classes, I just think you might've overestimated how cutthroat the Disney audition process is.

I'm not a dancer at all and I don't really claim to be. Disney auditions for meet and greet characters do have a dance component, but they highly stress that dance experience is by no means a prerequisite. These auditions are marketed as laidback and welcoming (which it certainly was). If you watch any of the videos on the audition website or read the Disney forums, they really encourage people to just try out regardless of background. On the weekends, I do children's birthday parties as a princess. I know I have the capability to interact with children in character and contribute to that magic. I'm confident in my abilities to perform the daily functions of the job. I know I seem frazzled & inexperienced, so it's not a far jump for people to assume I have no business being at the audition, but that isn't the case. I concede not being the most well rounded of applicants, however, it really strikes a chord with me when people belittle my ambitions because of shortcomings that don't even directly correlate into the job description. I hope I don't come across as defensive or sanctimonious. I just know a lot more people than my intended audience has seen this video, so I feel somewhat compelled to reframe my baseline of expertise in the field.

As a former Zoo Crewer at Disneyland... I can still remember my audition dance 16 years later! I knew exactly what to expect because I went to performance classes as a part of Magic Music Days when I was in middle school and they showed us what a winning audition looked like. Burned into my brain is, "Be a TIGGER, not an EEYORE" on every single step of the audition. Our process had 9 cuts over 2 days... and every single time you had to bust it and bring everything you have. After making it through 6 cuts on Day 1, I went home at 7pm and practiced the dance 50+ times for the next morning to do it in costume (probably why I still remember it now). If you look ridiculously silly and energetic with your toes pointing and jazz hands flared, you're going to be ready.

As soon as you said that you just learned what a grapevine was at the group audition I had a feeling that the dance section is what would have caught you. When I was just starting to get into musical theatre as a youth I was really nervous about not being up to the dancing requirements (turns out I was overthinking and giving myself unnecessarily anxieties, all of us were inexperienced 10-year-olds lol). So before I had my first company audition I had a friend who took dance teach me everything she knew. And I practiced it so many times it was absurd. But walking into that audition I felt so much more confident. I was able to pick up choreo, do counts, and do simple dance moves without being taught by the demonstrator. Even though it wasn't expected of me (the choreographer was super understanding and walked us through everything) knowing I was able to do what was asked of me gave me the confidence boost I needed to shake any nerves. I know comparing our two situations might be like apples to oranges when it comes to the age and audition intensity. But my advice would be to seek out some beginner dance classes in your area and/or find friends who are willing to teach you. KZbin has great resources too omg! I was placed in a company's showing of The Nutcracker which requires ballet which I have none of. I watched dozens of ballet vids on YT, practiced and was able to land an ensemble and understudy role. I believe in you! Please do not stop working for this because it is so obvious you would crush it at Disney. Since all of that^^^I've become dance captain of several shows while also exploring new things and all I can say is it's never too late to learn new skills. NEVER! TOO! LATE! Slaying grape vines this year and crushing Disney auditions the next. You got this!

This is interesting to watch as a musical theatre performer. I go into auditions all the time with like 15 min to learn a full dance and to go over it once or twice before the audition. This audition seems very relaxing. I think you need to try to prepare yourself more with other auditions. It’s a practice thing to learn how to retain info faster

Great attitude girl! This was very similar to my journey. I had been dancing since I was 7 with my dream of being a performer. Unfortunately I got cut at the second round at my DCP Audition. I've auditioned now probably about 15 times and have had to come to terms with my height (something I have literally no control over) is my weakness. Every no has been devastating, but I also look back now on how much it made me stronger and shaped me into the CM I am now 5 years later. I still audition cause even if it means I'm 50 and friends with the fairy godmother, I will continue to pursue my dream. For now I'm thankful for the lessons the auditions have taught me cause I have had some of the greatest jobs so far and many phenomenal guest interactions. Keep your head up, keep trying, and keep that positive outlook. I'm sure you'll be incredible in any role while you wait for your dreams to come true. I've always believed that if Walt Disney can be told no thousands of times and leave behind such an amazing legacy, surely I can do anything I set my mind to! You got this girl! Best wishes from your fellow KZbinr & Magic Maker ❤️

There's a lot that maybe you don't realize that I'm sure they are watching. The numbers kind of tell how early/late you are and say a bit more about your punctuation. They're probably watching the way you sit and interact with each other (watching if you're on your phone more than others, if you have good posture when you sit..etc), how seriously you take criticism when being taught the dance, how clean your moves are and a lot else, including any personal information they may have looked up on you. They also probably look for well kept hair, white teeth, friendly eyes and more, even if you are a character performer

I'm glad you put yourself out there and showed up for the audition! The way you critiqued yourself sounds healthy and honest, which is important when auditioning. As a former cast member (Disney World and Hong Kong Disneyland), I want to offer some friendly advice for your next audition: 1) Do a physical warm-up before you head to the audition location. A little exercise and some simple choreography will help reduce pre-audition jitters and help turn on your "dancer brain" (super important if you're like me and not the greatest dancer). 2) While waiting to audition, it's definitely good to chat a bit and connect with other people. At the same time, take periodic breaks from socializing so that you can stay centered. Quietly step away from the group and do whatever you need to reduce pre-audition jitters (sit with your eyes closed, stretch, take a few deep breaths, think about your favorite Disney characters... whatever works for you). 3) When learning the dance combo, it's okay to ask for clarification when you have a question about the steps! This is your audition, and you're allowed to ask for what you need to help you succeed. 4) Keep smiling as you learn the dance combo. It may feel really awkward, but attaching a smile to what you're learning will help you access more confidence (and Disney magic). 5) Remind yourself that you are enough just as you are. You are not there to prove anything. You're simply there to show who you are and how you would bring happiness and Disney magic to guests. 6) Before you perform the choreography/movement for the casting team, imagine that you already have the job and you're about to go onstage to a perform set. You GOT THIS - have fun and go make magic!

this happened to me today and i came straight to this video. i was at a singing audition and i got so nervous my throat kept drying up even after chugging a whole bottle of water. i kept choking on words and i couldn’t sing properly. i felt so bad afterwards i couldn’t stop crying for hours on end, still crying now. i’m not upset that i probably won’t make it anymore, i’m just disappointed in myself because i feel like i could’ve done so much better and i just failed it and made a complete fool of myself. i have to wait a complete year and come back in defeat next year with new songs. i spent so long practicing and learning lyrics (which, this time, i felt like it was so much harder than usual). i spent so much time and effort which i could’ve spent doing other things to just fail and disappoint myself. it’s weird because, i’m usually perfectly fine in front of like my entire class, or even entire year, but in front of just 4 people is so intimidating because you know they are watching you and taking notes on your performance and singing. *ugh i’m so pissed off, can y’all like this so when i get my results i can update this (probably around february next year)* i’ll hopefully be able to make an update for people if people even care about my stupid life lmao to my future self: i hope i make it, that’d be absolutely amazing and an incredible opportunity, but if not. don’t worry about it, we now have time to have a better song choice and practice until it’s completely perfect so don’t worry too much about it. okay well edit i guess?: its february and by now singing isnt my main instrument anymore, guitar is! i find im much better at this than singing. as you can probably tell, i didnt make it in, which was obvious but thats okay! i feel like ive got new paths now :)

You are correct that it is movements. But all dance routines are technically movements. Marching and swaying arms aren’t as much, but grapevine/box step/etc. are fundamentals of every style of dance. But, she did mention in the video and in several other comments that she struggles with dance. She admitted it wasn’t her strong suit and that she wished she would have spent more time learning/practicing the dance. She was also told before the audition that the dance wasn’t the most important part of he audition, but she said to her it seemed like that it was in fact the most important part when making the first round of cuts. Lastly, when you’re in a parade your movements do have to be more robotic so that you are in complete unison with the hundreds of other people around you. You just smile extra big if your face is exposed.

Congrats to you for going for it. We don't always get everything the first time around. The third time was the charm for me. I was fortunate enough that my plus size didn't matter for my role (Festival of the Lion King - HK). Now, you said a few times that your weight was the issue for being a face character. If you really want it..........They are very serious about weight restrictions. Your ambition and personality is a plus. And keep taking dance classes to stayed fluid in your movements.

Well thank you so much for watching and I appreciate the advice, I'm working on overcoming a lot of personal obstacles so that each audition gets me closer to achieving that dream of being a character performer.

I SWEAR that was my College Programme dance routine back in 2008! We had to do it to a It’s a Small World dance remix or something!! Our Animation was a daily routine, like waking up and going to work.

Natalie Ever After haha yes I did! I’m from the UK so only did the summer of 2008 but was a fur character as wasn’t there long enough to do anything else...closest thing to a parade/show I got to do was the welcome show at Magic Kingdom when they did it at Town Square railway station!

It’s very similar to the dance routine we did for my CP Character Audition in 2006 but I think it was to Fantasmic and there were a couple other moves in there. Im not sure if it’s the same as it was when I worked in entertainment. But a lot of it really has to do with your height and how over the top you can be and how much you can pull the attention to yourself because you really have to exaggerate every movement in fur. Also, unless you meet extremely specific specifications for a certain face character and are pulled exactly for that, all of the entertainers start out in fur. Good luck on your next audition!

@@jessicaschnupp9715 Thanks for the advice, maybe my insecurities with dancing shined through in the movements. I really think I just need to take some time to improve!

don't beat yourself up over this, it's not a failure, it's their inability to see your inner princess and you KNOW you're good at it so just keep your head high and try again, don't give up :)
