Something that bugs me is that people don’t realize that Cap wasn’t just enhanced physically, the serum enhanced his brain as well. Near photographic memory, gift for languages, increased muscle memory, etc. It also hardwired his brain for combat, Cap is literally a fighting machine.

One of the greatest thing I heard about Cap is how he uses the shield. Imagine getting to calculate the right amount of force to KO someone, have it bounce back several times and catch it. On the fly. All the time.

I gotta say, as a U.S. army veteran, I ALWAYS cry when I watch this movie. When Bucky falls, when Cap crashes....I always lose it. A fellow soldier and very close friend of mine was killed overseas just six months after his first child, a son, was born. That was almost 14 years ago. My son is 16 now. So when I see Cap wake up, I cry again, for all of us who live, and for all those we leave behind. I know, it's a superhero movie, but for me it's the most relatable of them all, because even a super soldier has to face the reality of loss and sacrifice. No soldier wants war, but every soldier is there to see it finished.

The smart tactic _is_ to dive away and lie prone on the ground feet-first from an impending grenade blast. Lying down minimizes your profile relative to the grenade (most fragments will miss you) and if the soles of your boots fail to stop the fragments from penetrating, at least it's your feet that take the damage. You may not be dancing anytime soon, but you can sit up and shoot.

it's only heroic if you have a means to stop it (i.e. throwing it, you're wearing a bomb suit). otherwise it's foolish - the platoon will just be one man/woman down, everyone would still be injured, and you would've sacrificed yourself for literally nothing. but it does look good in movies i suppose

"Vienna," the capital of Austria is spelled and pronounced "Wien." But all 50 US States are the same and New York is New York and not "Neu York" which would be a literal translation. There are quite a few documented instances of soldiers or Marines throwing themselves on a grenade to save their friends. A similar event took place late in the Pacific war; a B-29 fired a flare as a signal. Something went wrong & the flare ended up _in the plane_ activated. It was burning magnesium or something else that would burn through metal, and the plane was full of incendiary bombs. A crewman *picked the flare up with his bare hand* and tossed it it out a window. True story. And yes, he lost his hand.

I need more warning when she's about to scream because I have to blast the audio just to hear the movie she keeps low for strike reasons, only to have her scream at mass volume in my eardrums and make them hurt like hell. Either give me more movie volume or a warning flashing that a scream is coming so I can adjust my volume. Her excitement is the absolute best to watch because she's so engaged by the story and invested in the characters. I just need a little heads up is all. Lol

In the first issue of the Captain America comic Captain America had the type of shield he uses in the War Bonds scenes. A rival comic company complained that they had a similar character with a similar shaped shield. In response Marvel changed Captains America's shield to be round and of course he was then able to use it in the now iconic throwing style we are familiar with.

Yeah, the whole idea of "zero to hero" after all is a very modern concept, tied to the notion of the American dream, and everyone being able to succeed if they work hard. The ancient Greeks were big instead on the notion of being "kalos to agathos", beautiful and virtuous, namely, that not only you were supposed to be born good, but that good looks and moral goodness went hand in hand. Heroes were just cool from birth (due to being the children of gods, after all). Peasants ought to stay in their place. They had a bit of a different outlook than we do.

@@lapelcelery42 Nope. The Lernaean Hydra was the second task of Heracles, it regrew two heads for each cut off, and it's middle head was Immortal. He used a Golden Sword (from Athena) to cut the immortal head. There is an alternate version that he cut off one head, and dipped his sword in its venom, and that burned each stump.
