You know, it's funny.... Now that time has passed since the series aired I had forgotten how *well* it was done. @@a3-radio It isn't so much that Netflix was dropping the ball. Netflix hands were tied. There was a power struggle within Marvel itself due to Disney. They were drumming out the old school Marvel story tellers and replacing them with their Disney Agenda Team. The same problem had been happening within the MCU. That is the reason for the inconsistencies and drop in quality. Since Daredevil was the furthest along in production, it was the least affected.

Yeah it’s nothing issue and played by a joke, but there is an underlying trauma even in something so trivial as that. So you know, Nat, you don't have to cock the hammer on a pistol to fire it. Films use that as a visual shorthand, but pulling the trigger automatically pulls back the hammer. Trish's finger was on the trigger, she was ready to fire.

Only double-action pistols. There are still plenty of single-action pistols on the market that do need to have the hammer cocked in order to fire. 1911 Colt and the Desert Eagle are a couple, along with a LOT of revolvers. That being said, the revolver that was given to Trish in that scene was a Smith & Wesson Model 637 Airweight which is a double-action AND single-action. Meaning it can be fired with the hammer cocked for a lighter trigger pull, or without it cocked for a heavier trigger pull.

@@gothnate The point is, almost every modern fire arm someone is likely to see in the wild today is some form of double action or stiker fired, that when loaded is ready to fire. So inexperience laymen/women should be taught to assume it's in a firing condition, rather than look at it and go "hammers down, it can't fire until it's cocked". Because that's only true of an incredible small amount of handguns on the market, and these people can't recognize and differentiate a Ruger Blackhawk, 1911, Browning Hi-Power etc... from a Python, Berretta 92, P226, etc...

I think it's meaningful that Kilgrave could have just told the vendor to give him anything for free, but instead made him scald himself. Because he's had these powers for so long, he often just gives the first command that pops into his head. Someone who had had to worry about consequences/not always just got his way might still steal, but would be more likely not to just toss off any command without thinking.

When Trish was trying to get Jessica to wear that gawd-awful superhero costume, that is because in the comics Jones used to be a hero named Jewel, part of a team of heroes called Pulse, and she wore that costume. In the Pulse comics, she was part of that superhero team, until one time, she bursts into a room where Killgrave is. He tells her to stop, so she stops, and then he says, "take your clothes off." The last we see of her is her taking her superhero costume off. And that is the last time we saw her in Marvel Comics for a long time, until the Jessica Jones comic book came out, and she is a drunken, depressive wreck, post-Killgrave. And it was the first R-rated Marvel comic with strong adult language and gratuitous sex scenes. So, yeah, pretty dark stuff.

Nat, the part of the gun you are referring to is called the hammer, and for the record it doesn't really need to be pulled back to fire the weapon. It can be cocked, but it isn't essential like with "old west" six shooters. Most modern weapons the hammer will draw back and release when the trigger is pulled. Cocking the hammer (or pulling back the slide on an automatic) is largely a Hollywood trope that is done for visual drama but technically entirely unnecessary. That costume was actually from the comics. Before Jessica Jones became a P.I. she was an Avenger named Jewel.

You don't actually have to pull back anything on a gun to get it to fire, they just always do that on TV to draw the viewer's attention to the gun. That costume that Trish wanted Jessica to wear is actually her costume from the comics.

No idea how people disliked this show. Holy crap is this villain so sooo good and Jessica is such a relatable mess of a character let alone her badass abilities. She was easily over shadowed in a small series called the defenders but I swear they barely wrote a script for her.

The terrible costume that Trish shows Jessica is actually a reproduction of the costume Jessica wore as the superheroine Jewell before Kilgrave ruined her life and caused her to turn her back on the whole superhero gig. The TV show and the comic are quite different in many, many ways -- largely due to the comic being much of a commentary on the world of Marvel Comics, which is much denser and more layered than the highly simplified and streamlined MCU -- but they do throw in some fun nods. And yes, even in the comic, the costume design is *terrible.* Edit: Also, in the comic, Trish's name is Patsy and she's the superheroine Hellcat. This series almost gave her an origin story, but sadly it really goes off the rails in season 2 and the arc gets aborted.

I love this show so much and just so you know the costume that Trish showed Jessica is what Jessica Jones wears in the comics also the name Trish suggests and Jessica says it sounds like a stripper was the name Jessica used in the comic for a bit. Trish is also a super hero in the comics called Hellcat by the way. I love David for this part he plays Kilgrave so very well and seeing Carrie Ann Moss in the show was also cool as well.

6:35 Most revolvers (including that one) are double action meaning that you don't have to have "the thing pulled back" (the hammer cocked) in order for it to fire when you pull the trigger. It just makes it easier to fire/less trigger pull when the hammers is cocked

Nat I'm glad you continue with this great series and it's my favorite out of all the Netflix series and I am hoping that Jessica shows up on She-Hulk because if notice with suggested viewing after her series it's She-Hulk and the same for Dare Devil but none of the other series maybe that is a clue that she will be on She-Hulk or just a flaw. I see Jessica and Jennifer have a lot in common besides their names start with J and they both can lift a car which are nice but they like a nice beverage.

The costume that Trish made for Jessica is very cannon to the comics when Jessica joined the Avengers and called herself Jewel. Then she attacked Scarlet Witch under Killgrave's control and Iron man and Vision almost beat her to death. Then the X-Men found her and nursed her back to health. She then swore off being a hero and went back to detective work.

"Unsettling" is a really good word choice for Kilgrave and what he does to people. When I watched this season, I was so disturbed by him. So hard to watch that and think about how horrific it would be to be under someone else's complete control and not be able to do anything about it. It's SO unsettling. Men, women, kids... he doesn't care. So creepy!

Just wait. If you think you've seen Kilgrave yet, get ready. The writers on this show are so good at really looking into all the different implications of Kilgrave's monstrously overpowered abilities and how such abilities would affect motivations and warp the world upon which he lives in. You may just end up empathizing with him yet, despite how revolting he may be.

So just so no one makes this mistake IRL: Modern revolvers today usually have what is a called a "double action" trigger. This means that if you press the trigger the gun WILL fire without the need to first cock the hammer back. You will notice it takes more pressure, several extra pound of pressure, but it is not "safe" just because the hammer is not back
