Only double-action pistols. There are still plenty of single-action pistols on the market that do need to have the hammer cocked in order to fire. 1911 Colt and the Desert Eagle are a couple, along with a LOT of revolvers. That being said, the revolver that was given to Trish in that scene was a Smith & Wesson Model 637 Airweight which is a double-action AND single-action. Meaning it can be fired with the hammer cocked for a lighter trigger pull, or without it cocked for a heavier trigger pull.

@@gothnate The point is, almost every modern fire arm someone is likely to see in the wild today is some form of double action or stiker fired, that when loaded is ready to fire. So inexperience laymen/women should be taught to assume it's in a firing condition, rather than look at it and go "hammers down, it can't fire until it's cocked". Because that's only true of an incredible small amount of handguns on the market, and these people can't recognize and differentiate a Ruger Blackhawk, 1911, Browning Hi-Power etc... from a Python, Berretta 92, P226, etc...

When Trish was trying to get Jessica to wear that gawd-awful superhero costume, that is because in the comics Jones used to be a hero named Jewel, part of a team of heroes called Pulse, and she wore that costume. In the Pulse comics, she was part of that superhero team, until one time, she bursts into a room where Killgrave is. He tells her to stop, so she stops, and then he says, "take your clothes off." The last we see of her is her taking her superhero costume off. And that is the last time we saw her in Marvel Comics for a long time, until the Jessica Jones comic book came out, and she is a drunken, depressive wreck, post-Killgrave. And it was the first R-rated Marvel comic with strong adult language and gratuitous sex scenes. So, yeah, pretty dark stuff.

Nat, the part of the gun you are referring to is called the hammer, and for the record it doesn't really need to be pulled back to fire the weapon. It can be cocked, but it isn't essential like with "old west" six shooters. Most modern weapons the hammer will draw back and release when the trigger is pulled. Cocking the hammer (or pulling back the slide on an automatic) is largely a Hollywood trope that is done for visual drama but technically entirely unnecessary. That costume was actually from the comics. Before Jessica Jones became a P.I. she was an Avenger named Jewel.

The terrible costume that Trish shows Jessica is actually a reproduction of the costume Jessica wore as the superheroine Jewell before Kilgrave ruined her life and caused her to turn her back on the whole superhero gig. The TV show and the comic are quite different in many, many ways -- largely due to the comic being much of a commentary on the world of Marvel Comics, which is much denser and more layered than the highly simplified and streamlined MCU -- but they do throw in some fun nods. And yes, even in the comic, the costume design is *terrible.* Edit: Also, in the comic, Trish's name is Patsy and she's the superheroine Hellcat. This series almost gave her an origin story, but sadly it really goes off the rails in season 2 and the arc gets aborted.

This is one of the most enjoyable reaction videos I've ever watched on your channel. JJ's S1 is just getting started so strap in your seatbelts because bumpy roads are ahead.

The costume that Trish made for Jessica is very cannon to the comics when Jessica joined the Avengers and called herself Jewel. Then she attacked Scarlet Witch under Killgrave's control and Iron man and Vision almost beat her to death. Then the X-Men found her and nursed her back to health. She then swore off being a hero and went back to detective work.

"Unsettling" is a really good word choice for Kilgrave and what he does to people. When I watched this season, I was so disturbed by him. So hard to watch that and think about how horrific it would be to be under someone else's complete control and not be able to do anything about it. It's SO unsettling. Men, women, kids... he doesn't care. So creepy!

Just wait. If you think you've seen Kilgrave yet, get ready. The writers on this show are so good at really looking into all the different implications of Kilgrave's monstrously overpowered abilities and how such abilities would affect motivations and warp the world upon which he lives in. You may just end up empathizing with him yet, despite how revolting he may be.

So just so no one makes this mistake IRL: Modern revolvers today usually have what is a called a "double action" trigger. This means that if you press the trigger the gun WILL fire without the need to first cock the hammer back. You will notice it takes more pressure, several extra pound of pressure, but it is not "safe" just because the hammer is not back

killgrave's powers don't need him to be conscious once the mental suggestion is planted. he can get someone to keep doing something for life if he wanted.

6:35 - Modern revolvers don't need to be cocked. They're double-action, which means pulling the trigger both brings the hammer back and drops it.

the coment was pretty great about two superhumans aknowledging the helmet laws while scoffing them. made me think back to yesterday when i asked "who remembers smokey the bear?" and realized the ebay banner ads were targeted to my narrow domographic of "purchasers of lighters online"

Hey Natalie- I just watched your reaction to the first episodes! If the subject of addiction interests you, you might really enjoy Elementary! It deals with the addict side of Sherlock Holmes deeper than probably any other interpretation! And it has Lucy Liu as Watson!
